Not a great game but at least we had some periods of passing the ball around to feet and keeping possession. I think we will push on once the communication gets better.

My missus saw it - a blipvert for the Sky Big Four - subconciously recruiting the kids.Eek

Probably some stupid gooner working for Sky managed to get that on, or that Sky don't give a shit so much that they start to fly rival emblems around the screen!

We won. When was the last time you coukd say that against Newcastle, especially in Newcastle.

We didn't have to be at our best against them. Save it up for when we play a decent team.

You're like the black bit of a duracell battery - always negative.

Come join the copper coloured tops and be a bit positive.
Exactly - this was the first time we have ever won at Newcastle in a cup competition (5 previous losses).!

We never looked like losing and it was job well done by Ramos and the players.

I wish people would give credit where its due.

Low point of the match - seeing the scum logo being flashed up:evil:

Aye. But we'll still get a tough PL team away in the next round though, and Chelsea will get Rotherham at home, you can bet on that.

I'd be more than happy if we get the same result sunday, wheather it's scrappy or not, just 3 points could raise us up to 14th, then all of a sudden everything looks more rosey, 2 more wins over stoke anc hull and we could be in the top half by then.

We didn't play attractive football but we won. We cleared high balls easily (I never felt anxious about the corners, free kicks etc), Gomes looked decisive and Giovanni added some flair and incisiveness. Newcastle are reeling - I predict that we will be above them in the league by the end of the weekend - and from there, who knows?!

Well that was one of the most boring matches I have ever witnessed with us struggling to do anything against a team with no manager and no crowd.

But don't worry we can always sign some more attacking midfielders with no real position and then spend the next few months playing them 'out of position' while trying to find out where they actually played. That will at least provide some entertainment.

Go and support someone else!:shake:

I honestly feel that setting the team out like we did tonight will eventually see us pick a lot more points away from home once we get used to it and start playing with a lot more confidence. Need Modric as the advanced midfielder though..

There is nothing wrong with winning ugly, I wish we had the ability to do it more often.

Agreed - whilts it's not a patch on winning pretty, it's a damned sight better than losing or drawing ugly, which is what we've seen so far this season.

You can only beat what's in front of you. Wasn't the best game I've ever watched, but we looked pretty comfortable overall. Great to see Pav open his account. And I thought that he was lucky to get away with smashing Coloccini in the face - seen players pick up reds for more innocuous challenges than that. Last time he kicks a Russian in the balls anyway!

Not sure why BAE gets such a bashing - he takes a few risks but is largely a solid defender and reads the game pretty well.

Gomes - great. Legend in the making.

I also thought that we were pretty sound tactically. Maybe Ramos is finally getting through to the players? O'Hara certainly seems to understand what's required of him and I suspect that he may become one of Ramos' mainstays.

Bale needs to take a couple of games off to compose himself. Things just aren't going his way at the moment. Only a matter of time though.

Don't know about anyone else, but I felt a bit sorry for Chris Hughton at the end.

Interesting to see that the self-proclaimed "best fans in the world" did their bit to support their team this evening...

You know that's a Sky copyright and using it without permission could get you in big trouble, don't you?

I didn't hear it once tonight. Come to think of it, I couldn't hear the Newcastle fans either, even when they scored.

our possible rivals:

Brighton
QPR
Wigan
Chelsea
Blackburn
Arsenal
Leeds
Burnley
Rotherham
Stoke City
Man Utd
Swansea
Watford
Liverpool
Sunderland

There are many weak teams on paper in that list.
