At least we were actually playing and trying to create chances.
And the first goal was nicely worked

The team looked better than against Wigan or the Poles, by a county mile!

Pav looked stronger as the game went on and the goal - HUGE boost to his confidence.

Corluka played very well, was pleased with our defending too - nothing wrong with Kings performance, King Woodgate and the full backs looked pretty strong.

Gio when he came on made a big difference.

jenas started surging forward, you could actually SEE the confidence coming back and the football starting to flow!
lennon as usual was dangerous, played well again, he needs to start - as Bentley has been shit.

Glad Bent didnt start - and what a difference! Personally I wish we get rid of bent soon, he simply isnt good enough.

As usual, Zokora was shit - yeah yeah, he broke play up a few times, but his passing, movement, tactical awareness, all POOR piss poor! he gave away possession several times, he broke our play up too several times, as he cannot pass and cannot move and has NO VISION! he ruined so many moves! I hate this player and wish he just fcuks off to League 2 where he belongs!
We need a class DM, thats a priority!

Modric looked sharp when he came on!

All in all a confidence boosting win, and well deserved as we were the better side.

Newcastle looked forlorn, lost, hopeless, a felt sorry for Hughton as he's in charge of a bunch of tossers!

As for Newcastle fans being the best, as some people are prone to say, theyre NOT - never have been! the stadium wasnt even half filled, what a bunch of wankers!!
WHL would NEVER be this empty in a cup tie! No way!

so that's Middlesbrough, Man City, Aston Villa, Everton, Bolton, Newcastle, Portsmouth, Fulham and West Ham out

Looks to me like all the teams who take this competition serious apart from us and the chavs are out!!

I hate Newcastle as much as you, but they were voicing with their feet. Seeing as season ticket holders have to pay for Carling Cup matches, this was the perfect way of showing their disappointment to the way their club is being run at the moment. It will be back to full for the next home league game....

so you say zokora was shit, but jenas was ''surging forward''. dear lord.

and lay off bent, it's not his fault Levy decided to pay 10 million too much for him. Bent's attitude is spot-on and he's gonna do a good job for us this season.

Ramos seemed truly happy out on the line when we scored the first one, bit like SAF almost.

What is going on with Steven Taylor by the way? I used to think he was a pretty decent defender but the last few games he has been at fault for a goal every single time.

http://www.indonewyork.com/contents/Berita/Olahraga/sepakbola/highlights/epl/cc-nu-tottenham.html < Awful quality but all the goals are there.

edit: whoops, didn't notice there was a thread with highlights http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=36745

So glad we won, feel better waking up today knowing we finally showed that we can score goals :-D

Obviously important for Pav to get off the mark, he looked a lot more comfortable once that went in!

Woody was immense wasn't he? What a player!

Jamie O'Hara played really well, his off the ball movement was fantastic too. Hoped before the team announced that he'd get a game and a goal for his birthday and he did

COYS!!!!

Its a start, its the sort of match we need to win, where we ain't playing that good, but still get the win....

What I was impressed about was that there was obivously a small contingent of fans who made it up there, but they sang their heart out, the stadium was obivously dead, but you could always hear the chants coming from our end.

Well done to the fans also!!

Good result, good defending, some classy moments, superbly taken goal by Pav.

As a whole, the game was dull though. Both teams created 3-4 good chances taken together, but not because both teams are fantastic defensively wise.

The game against Pompy will be crucial. A third win in row can make everything look differently.

Positives:
- Kept Fighting
- Jamie O-Hara and Gio looked very good
- We're through to the next round of the Carling Cup
- Pavelychenko looked better today and lead the line well

Negatives:
- Newcastle we're worse then awful as opposition and we're there for the taking
- Jenas, King and Bale looked woeful today
- The first half was the worst game of football I have seen in a long time
- Lennon was subbed after setting up the goal. I thought he looked dangerous and was a shocking deceision from Ramos in my eyes

Overall:
- We got the result we all wanted but not the performance. Sometimes you have to dig in to pick up results so well done to the lads for that. The game was awful for any spectators mind and Newcastle we're so off the pace it was painful to watch. Overall I'm obviously happy for the win but not getting carried away as this was against poor poor opposition. I know you can only beat what's in front of you but we didn't perform that well at all.

tremendous result and from the sky and ITV highlights I saw a very good performance

when this draw was made I expected us to lose - even with Toon in crisis I still made them favourites on the night (don't know what the bookie's odds were)

I think I heard on one TV channel this is the first time we have ever wona cup tie at St james' park

I can certainly never remember us winning there in a cup game

I remember us losing a lge cup semi final in the 70s up there

I remember the 6-1 hammering - the 1-0 'Rob' styles defeat

not to mention the 2-0 'tale of the penalties' losing semi final at OT

then add in the fact they have beaten us five times on the spin previous to wed - well to win there

fantastic absoultely fanstastic

on a lesser scale than the vengeance we inflicted on AFC last sseason - but vengance for manymany hurtful days against them over recent years

the 7-1 (score from memory) still hurts too- but don't hurt anywhere near as much today :)
