The squad is in a mess because we've flip flopped.
@JUSTINSIGNAL isn't saying the manager doesn't get a say, he should have final say, what is hopefully happening here is that this is the start of a process where we build a squad and fit managers to the squad we have and the recruitment stays consistent, so player turnover on a huge scale isn't necessary, pretty certain Ange will have a big say in sorting this squad out but it's in the clubs best interest to have a recruitment specialist on board with the vision if Ange doesn't work out.

Spot on

It would be if any director of football wanted to work for levy for more than 18 months without getting fed up or arrested for corruption. We've had arneson, commoli, Mitchel, baldini and the latest guy. I'll wager the next guy isn't here for more than 18 months either and the circle continues.

You might be right. We need still need that to attempt to have that figurehead though. A club like ours can't financially afford to be doing a rebuild every 18 months we sack a manager. There needs to be some consistency of recruitment and squad building so that there isn't so much churn. Especially for the fact prem teams are struggling to sell players.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if we let Ange, Munn and the existing recruitment team (Steinsson & co) do things a bit old school this summer and then look to get in a long term recruitment bod/DoF down the line.

Don't think it's best practice or something we can afford to do long term, but given the time-frame and the need to assess the squad and get shit moving ASAP, it seems like we might just need to muddle through and pray that Ange has the same magic touch in the market he had at Celtic.

Very poor planning to not have a DoF lined up given Paratici's tenuous position, but of all the managers Ange seems well suited to this type of situation, thankfully. In fact, I think he thrives and enjoys taking over clubs in a complete mess like us.

Munn has zero recruitment experience, a limited knowledge of football, he’s a business guy, a manger of teams of people. We need a recruitment specialist in or risk falling further behind.
That's not true at all. At Melbourne City he was involved with the recruitment side including leading the negotiations to sign Tim Cahill, which was one of the biggest ever signings in A-League history.

Is Leonardo Gabbanini still at the club? (I recall @Hercules dropping hints but I couldn't work out whether it meant he was still around and could be promoted or if he'd been part of the clear out when Conte went). No reason he could not become Head of Recruitment with Munn then above him to deal with the financial side. Gretar Steinson also has Head of Recruitment/DOF experience so I think the skills needed could all be covered without getting a "big hitter" DOF like Monchi.

It's important for someone to bridge the First Team and Academy set-up though so there is a long term conveyor belt and we don't develop types of player that ultimately are unsuited to our first team. In other words, someone who distills a new DNA which runs through the club and is borne in mind in every recruitment decision at all levels. That DNA will now be based on Ange's style but plans should be made so it also outlives Ange's tenure (however long that will be.)

Maldini leaving Milan...
His role there was officially Technical Director, but was more about identifying players and developing the squad. The sort of role we're probably after if it isn't going to be a fully fledged DOF.

Do/did Celtic have a DofF as in a video I watched Ange said he used some of his knowledge to sign the Asian players and that he’s not too picky on recruitment as if for example he says he needs a right winger the scouting team will give him a list of say 10 Right Wingers and then he will decide who he wants based on their character as he knows for the most part they’re all good players who he can coach into his system.

I really like his simple approach to this is like he’s a more modern version of Harry Redknapp in that sense.

What we need now is a really really good used car/doubleglazing salesman/woman to help sell the players that are deemed surplus.

Yes, there is also a bigger structure in the club now. Perhaps thr two below fab will step up.
Maybe better to have a few people concentrating on different aspects of the role rather than one person doing it all

Although too many cooks and all that.

Monchi now linked to Villa too. Be gutting to see him go there and not to us
I'm not. He's been brilliant for Sevilla but he's been a part of the club since he was a teen apart from the short stint at Roma IIRC.
I'm not sure his work is necessarily transferable to another club within a reasonable amount of time.

I'd personally prefer someone with a good track record at more than one club.

Are we any closer to this?
Do we even know what’s going on here?

Given we’re looking for a rebuild with lots of ins and outs you’d of thought we’d be closer with this.
This appointment is vital.

Are we any closer to naming a DOF/technical director/head of recruitment? Or will this likely be another out of the blue announcement like Munn?

I'm of a similar view but can also see that a new head of recruitment working with Munn and Ange could work.

As long as the bald one has no involvement other than setting a budget.

Matt Law was on LWOS Wednesday night, he reckoned this will pick up pace now the manager situation has been resolved. His opinion was the club will want someone in before July, so expected movement within the next fortnight.
