Reports in Holland today that Arne Slot had turned us down and will stay at Feyenoord
Jesus - our situation is so bad that we can't get managers from (with respect) the Dutch league.

If that isn't a sign that Levy needs to go, I don't know what is. This is tragic. The club is collapsing, and neither managers, nor players want to join.

This has been several years in the offing, but the issues are well and truly coming home to roost now.

For those who want Poch back, what has changed since he left that would overcome the issue that were within the club when he left and would indicate it wouldn't be a repeat performance?

For me, not so much what new ideas he brings, but hasn’t to contend with a complicated period for the club where he over achieved in his first spell. The club infrastructure is less complex and complete: The period up to moving to the new stadium, managing under restrictions finally took a toll. Almost some kind of burn out. We all identify we overachieved, how much did that mentally take out of him along with two stadium moves, and all that that period brought. Must have built up inside and impacted his judgement, mood and persona in what was to be his final months.

He had already highlighted the need to churn the squad, but that wasn’t on the Levy must do list. It was all about what can be achieved on limited resource. Draining, I think so. Last 12 months, more so 9 months his mind had gone. Let’s not forget, that 2018/19 season was without Kane for a large spell. And still got us there or there abouts.

Fast forward to now. He’s had a very long break, fresh mind, more experience with PSG and a chance to reflect on his previous time here. Now no stadium build, some young talent there to mould and create hunger. Better financial resources (assuming managed correctly on spend and outgoings). A fanbase that will largely embrace him. Given what the last 4 years has delivered then there would be some immediate feel good around the place and much without trying.

He plays football the way we crave, he style is relevant, has a positive personality, will go towards healing the place, around the club and in the stands. No guarantees we will win trophies, but it provides a sound starting point.

Like people have said. Our current predicament isn’t far off from when he first arrived. He proved he could mould something. If he’d never managed us and had the same outcomes at say a same level rival and he was available, he’d be at the top of a lot of peoples list. It’s so much more than being a romantic appointment.

No doubt in my mind that that final Poch season corresponded with injuries and age catching up to Dembele, Wanyama, Rose, Verts, and Toby. Unless your new signings can hit the ground running and be an instant success, you're going to have some level of hardships. I also believe it's no coincidence that our form got worse this season as we lost Bentancur, who in my mind was the closest thing we've had since dembele.

As much as a club can try and prepare for it, it seems to happen 90% of top clubs, look at Liverpool this season. They've actually even got some new younger signings in the door but Nunez or Gakpo isn't comparable to Mane at this point, Diaz got a long-term injury, VVD injury/form/age, some older players as well.

So all in all, whoever the new manager is, needs some injury luck in the beginning, and needs to instill confidence at the very least in order to see those players take risks and hopefully be rewarded, so that they can continue building on that foundation.
They just need patience really. Target should be top 6 with signs of progress. Sometimes you need to take a step back to take a step forward. A generous reading of Pochs end times is that he also saw this as necessary.

I think there are plenty of justifiable options, but there needs to be a plan in place and we need to stick to it. Even if fans start acting up.

So that's no to Poch, no to De Zerbi, no to Slot, almost certainly not Nagelsmann, which leaves... Kompany and Ange. Fun times.

The info isn't convincing yet that Slot is out of play but even if so, there are still several great candidates out there. The head says JN, the heart says Gallardo but VK is chipping away at both of those. Coys.

Oh dear, be fun in here for the next few hours 😂
This is where I now take myself away from it all and with all of these stories coming out that’s the main reason why I’m thinking Poch after another debacle.

Don’t blame anyone on here at all putting in suggestions and I’m one of them 😂 but this feels like it could be worse than the manager quest circa summer 2021.

When it comes to the who’s next, going to now tap out until the next PR disaster, I mean announcement concerning this torturous topic 😂

IF thats true I really wouldn't be that surprised. He has a release clause in his contract from next summer and taking Feyenoord to the CL would be massive for him and the club. He is in no rush, he's only 44 and if he continues to impress he will have plenty of opportunities. Ether way i'm sure Feyenoord will be doing everything to pursued him to stay another season.

Still, we have had ITK saying he's really keen to come so this might just be leaked info to bolster the team before their massive game on Thursday.

Ether scenario wouldn't surprise me.

The article says (second hand) that a journalist in Holland says he has 'apparently' told the club director he will stay next year. Hardly time yet to throw a hissy fit.
Could be no substance at all or made up or result of Chinese whispers.

He's hardly going to say that he wants to leave for a job he hasn't been given.

Agree. Not a substantive article at all, but all I could find. Judging off my quick search I’m not ready to think the Slot links are over.

Why couldn't he do it again, could point, however all the issues that existed whilst he was here still remain, so surely it'd be rinse and repeat, IF he could get the team to over perform as they did previously.
I for one am very wary about Poch coming back as when we talk about the relative success of the Poch era, I feel we often do this via rose tinted specs.

Let's look at the facts, he joined us in 2014 after the debacle of the AVB and Sherwood era when we were totally lost and had just spunked the Bale money on a bunch of signings that proved very poor bar Eriksen and Lamela on one of his rare good days. Poch came in, gave us an identity and for 2-3 years, the team looked great. We must also remember that this spell coincided with the declining Arsenal years with Wenger, Liverpool starting a rebuild with Klopp, Chelsea rebuild after the implosion of Jose's second spell, Man U still lost post Fergie and Man City stagnation under Pelligrini with Leicester winning the league in that time at our expense. I mention this context not to belittle Poch and the squad's achievements, but to ensure we analyse it properly and recognise that it was during a unique period in the PL when the traditional top 5 were performing way below their usual levels and all at the same time.

We also know Poch was not backed in the transfer market especially in the latter years which coincided with the decline in the team's performance levels and the ask for a rebuild. My worry is what happened when he was backed after the CL loss at the start of said rebuild. We ended up with Sess, Lo Celso and Ndombele two of which are out on loan and the other still looks way off becoming the player we thought we were getting. We did not have a DoF at that time so I would be surprised if Poch did not have a major hand in pushing for those signings for which we are still feeling the consequences today.

I am no DL fan certainly in terms if his leadership on the football side but I feel this notion that he never backed Poch is false. Yes the backing did not happen during the period when the squad was desperate for reinforcement however, this does not account for the cluster fuck signings that were made in 2019 which I am sure played a role in Poch ultimately losing his job.
When I put the above together with the CL final loss, two FA Cup semi final losses, the lost opportunity to win the league and the league Cup final loss I have to say I am in the extremely wary category when it comes to the idea of rehiring Poch as I feel it could be a romantic notion that ends up in tears.

I really hope DL and the board don't bow to relentless pressure and stand back take as objective a stance as possible in considering the full breadth of available candidates incl Nagelsmann, Slot etc...
