Kane can work in any formation. He would have to press though. I think more that Harry it's Son and Richarlison the forwards who would have to change their style a bit. He would demand from them constant pressing to the defenders

Who would thrive the most? Probably Bentancur and Hojberg. And I think he would try and complement that midfield with a creative mid. Someone like James Maddison for example. He likes to use creative attacking midfielers in a deeper role. I believe it's because he thinks it's easier to teach pressing and tackling to a creative mid, than creativity and vertical passing to a center mid

I'm sure this video has been shared before, but this is a very good and accurate representation of how he likes to play

Your first 2 sentences just cancelled each other out. I don't think we'll ever see Kane press effectively again, but any new manager appointment needs to be looking beyond him anyway. However, if we did get an attacking midfielder in, that would put more pressure on any opposition trying to get up the pitch from the back, so I'm all for that.

Surely it’s been an instruction since Mourinho rather than his inability?

Hmmm not sure. Kane still puts himself about but he also appears to tire easier than he did (no shock there)
He’d certainly press if those behind him were going to join- look at how he plays v city for example
But neither he nor son have the legs to press as hard as they did in the poch era.
But they could press more if asked to.

in fairness, under Jose it was always about those two conserving energy and springing counters in space they could take advantage of.
It maximised their positives whilst simultaneously hiding as many of everyone else negatives
(Apologies for not simply slating Jose ofc)

Kane can still press intelligently, if not to the level he could in 2015. The problem is that since Jan and Toby declined and left we’ve not had a defence with the cojones to push up the pitch and hem the opposition in their half.

Yeah do think the inconsistency of the press will demotivate even the most committed. And yeah they are older, but they’re still top class athletes.

I appreciate that was Mourinho’s approach but has it been Nuno’s or Conte’s for sure?

Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira on Football Manager: So I always trained small teams. Teams from the second division, like Penafiel in Portugal, where I started my playing career, or Braga. Or teams who never win titles: someone like Tottenham.

New candidate?

I saw some jounrno, can’t remember who, talking about Amorim. He was talking about how well he is doing and how he would be great for Spurs.
he then went on to mention how his Sporting team are a great counter attacking team…..

has anyone watched much of him team? I’m really not keen on someone new coming here if they intend toplay counter attack football. I’m bored of it.

I think most of us would agree that we would like to see a possession based, high pressing, high energy brand of football again.

I’m also bored of the passive, counterattacking low intensity stuff we’ve watched over the last few years. It’s not good on the eye at all.

Seems he has done well, so taking the hard route has paid off?

Did we press as much with Poch from his third season onwards? I remember it’s tailing off as his reign went on…
15/16 & 16/17 were the only consistent pressing seasons, 14/15 we tried but weren't quite tactically there and by 17/18 it was almost like we were picking the games we intensely pressed in (or the players were just getting tired).

Good coach but he'll be at Palmeiras a while now.

Also, his football is not the most appealing and he's excelling in a league where there's a lot of coaches that have been around the block.

We can do better IMO

Sounds like Tuchel might be going back to psg. One off the list. Quite relieved by that.

Me too, if that is the case.

I just think hiring Tuchel would be another Mourinho/Conte type appointment which is the opposite of what we need right now imo.

Conte would be the perfect manager for PSG. If that's gone not sure where he can go better than us.
If he goes, it will be the next big job in Italy, after taking a needed break I reckon. Not sure he'll be too fussed having to do it straight away.

Conte would be the perfect manager for PSG. If that's gone not sure where he can go better than us.
A club where he'll have zero control, massive scrutiny about his playing style, 3 forwards with colossal egos who don't press, barely run off the ball and can't be dropped, and huge pressure to do well in Europe where he's traditionally terrible.

What could possibly go wrong?

Even if Conte wanted to go to PSG he's not the kind of guy they'd pick. There's a reason none of the uber clubs like Madrid and PSG have gone for Conte when he's been available.

I'd be amazed if his next job isn't back in Italy.
