In looking back over the hype around coaching selections in the last 20 years Conte and Jose's names were exciting even though their particular style of play wasn't. "Arry was mildly exciting, Poch was meh and Nuno was ugh. And yet Poch was the best of the bunch. Hence, it's hard to get to wound up over the coaching selection as my past performance is definitely not indicative of future results. But it should also be noted that the groupthink in here makes it difficult not to warm to Tuchel, Gallardo, and Enrique while Poch is an okay selection if he learned his lessons from his last two tenures. Cheers and may we finally turn a corner as unlikely as that is.

Surely Enrique is asking for the same thing to happen again? Levy has to realise we don't have the squad or the funds to give the likes of Jose, Conte, Enrique the players they need. We need a reality check, we can't keep doing the same shit time and time again and expecting a different result.

The reason I'll be taking a prolonged break from posting on the site.

Not coming on here to be pulled apart by some clown who has a very short term memory and thinks I only post kit information.

Stay safe and catch most of you when I return.
Question is why do you care what one person thinks?

probablu because he hasn’t proven himself in the prem over a sustained period, or developed his own squad.

most - myself included have no knowledge of his career prior to this season.

As potter has shown at Chelsea - it’s a bloody big leap from Brighton to a big club.

Potter has shown it's a big leap from strategy to rudderless ship.

Thinking about Enrique if he came in now what could he even play?

Forster
Porro Romero Lenglet Davies

Hojbjerg
Skipp Sarr

Kuluveski Kane Son

don’t think we have the technical players for it would be horrendous 🤣
I believe that this is the root of our problems. We need to establish an identity or a philosophy and align our manager and recruitment strategies with it, similar to how Dortmund and Leipzig are managed.

If we want to be a forward-thinking, technically-skilled, youth-oriented, possession-based team, we need to commit to it now. We should hire a manager who fits this mold and buy appropriate players, even if our current squad is ill-equipped for that style. I think it's important to have a vision and move towards it, even if it means some short-term difficulties.

Alternatively, we can stick with the pragmatic managers who are better suited to our current squad. However, after Jose and Conte, I feel like that experiment has failed.

Oh good, a long term project with a manager who's 3 club appointments have lasted 1 year, 1 year and 3 years (that's worse longevity than Conte). What could go wrong.
Thats a fair assessment but when you look closely, he's gone to a big job in
Roma - not done well and left after one season, major issue was he fell out with Totti
Celta Vigo - Takes a step down to go 17th placed Celta and does well to finish top half, leaves to go his former club
Barcelona - Every manager wants to manage a team they were a legend of, spent 3 seasons there. Saw out his contract
Spain - 4 years

Now Roma he fell out with Totti and didn't do well
Celta he did well and was approached by Barcelona, no one is going to turn that down

Whilst he has spent the first 2 jobs at a season each, it shouldn't be held against him as one is a case of falling out with a club legend and the other, being offered your dream job

I would think it's because when one person starts, the rest become emboldened and clamber out from under their rocks.
This is why the rules are as strict as they are, we've seen it happen before.

I'm not getting on the Enrique hype train. Even I could win the lot with peak Messi, Neymar and Suarez, a midfield of Iniesta, Busquets and Rakitic and a defence of Alves, Pique, Alba and ter Stegen. With a playing style inherited from Guardiola.

Can we reset the poll and add kompany, Enrique and Schmidt to the list

Most of those votes are legacy votes so would be good to get a more accurate preference amongst us

And only allowed to pick 1 name?

That’s one sorted. Anyone else looking to be a dickhead tonight? If you can all line up it’s far easier for us :p
Do you Daniels address?

Skipp is better technically than people give credit.

Also Enrique played 442, 433, 343 and 460, not a given he will go 433

That's cool so let the admins deal with it. But the way some of them throw their toys out of their pram when someone doesn't believe them is a bit embarrassing.

Tbf we should be shifting to recruiting more technical players anyway. Enrique isn’t exclusively tiki taka anyway so there’s be a mix. New GK, new LCB, new forward thinking no. 8, new LW, and new ST of Kane goes. Should certainly be doable by next January at the latest. Raya, Pau Torres, Mac Allister/Maddison, Armand Laurienté and that’s the starting XI holes filled. Then you have the technical core of Porro, Romero, Udogie, Bentancur, Bissouma, Kane (or new player), Kulusevski. I’d add Højbjerg even though that’s unpopular. Squad options of Gil, Richarlison, Son (sell please (due to age more so than lack of faith in a return to form)), Sarr, Skipp. Might need to add more technical defenders but again build over time. Again only if Enrique is the guy. If he is, it must be decided only after the philosophy and vision is decided upon. Then you build and accept growing pains. That’s the only way this club moves forward towards sustained success.

A quick fix isn’t possible with the way the club is run. And that’s not something I have a huge issue with. What I do take issue with though is making decisions as if that’s the case but then not fully committing to that way of running the club. Just pick what you wanna be and stick with it for the long haul. Shouldn’t be that difficult and that’s why it’s so frustrating as a fan.

The biggest concern is he left his dream job after 3 years because he had "no energy" after his 2nd year.

That doesn't scream long term project here to me.
