It would be too early for Mason I guess. Still think he needs to learn somewhere with less pressure. Right now every half decent coach would feel like an improvement to boring-Conte and Stellini.

To be honest, I would like to know how much right now is on him and how much on his staff like Wells.

Conceded 6 goals in three games. Conceding 3 goals in 20 mins and 2 in the other 45 mins is not the sign of a good manager setting up a team.

We may have come back in both the games but he set the tactics up to start with. Yes, we beat Palace and he changed formation/dropped a couple of players but in no way should that mean he gets he job or is good enough for it.
Not suggesting he should get the job, just making the point that his ability to impress is limited and that he has implemented some positive things. Yes we were behind and yes they were his tactics but he also managed to get the players up enough to fight which more experienced mangers have failed to do and the decision to drop Dier was one that has needed doing but again other mangers lacked the nouse to do so

It's a tough one. Mason has done well here and has quietly done his thing. He stepped up when called upon and did what he could. Having said that, I really don't want him to get the job, purely because I don't think he's ready to manage Spurs full time. I would hate to see him get sacked 4 months into the job. I still feel he could do a job here as a coach and learn from the next manager.
I actually felt bad for Nuno because it was Levy's choice to hire him. Let's be honest, how many of you would turn down a job paying good money because you thought it might be too big for you, especially if it's contract work and you know that there will be a payoff if you're fired?

But that's a debate for another thread.....

If Kompany and Alonso are contenders, then Mason should be too.
Obviously Kompany isn't anymore but I'm sure that Mason is in there. Personally, like others, I'd prefer to see him go off and continue his 'education' elsewhere like Howe did before getting the Newcastle job.

Spurs three managerial God's hardly had more experience than Ryan when they took over. Arthur Rowe, Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw would have been slaughtered if they were in the frame had social media existed back then.
Nice to see Levy reads my posts.

Mason being on the list doesn't make him the number one target. Good grief some of you do love to overreact don't ya?

Why wouldn't he be in the mix? He has been here since Conte, knows the club, players seem to like him and I actually liked his use of subs the past few games.

Not saying he should get it or should be the number one pick though.

Mason has just won one game, at home to Crystal Palace, by a single goal. I can’t understand this clamour at all. He needs at least a season or two as head coach somewhere else, proving his credentials over an extended period of time, before getting such a big job as ours full time. If he pulls a Kompany in such a role, fair enough, he can be in contention. But he absolutely doesn’t have the kind of body of work yet to merit this kind of consideration.

This job broke Jose and Conte and it just seems REALLY unfair to task Mason to oversee a rebuild in which he has 0 experience doing.

I also feel putting him in a position that has a pretty high chance of failure is actually doing a disservice to him and could derail what looks like a promising career he has in front of him

Considering Slots assistant manager is van Persie the obvious solution to what’s being discussed to me is by employing Slot with Mason as his assistant manager. Together Slot and Mason can then rebuild this mess with hopefully Kane on board seeing as Mason is having a decent role in the set up.

I thought that was the requirement to join SC.....:cautious:

The Challenge with Mason is as much about recruiting new players as coaching the current ones. Players want to play for proven winners.

On JN, what have you guys heard about him losing the locker room at Bayern? He coaches with an intensity that can rub players the wrong way.

Think he was popular at Leipzig and IIRC quite a few members of the Bayern squad went out of their way to speak positively about him when he got the sack - Kimmich especially so. I think it was the old guard: Muller and, especially, Neuer, that he had problems with at Bayern. Not sure we've got egos on quite that scale at Spurs.

What's the point of doing it at a lower level club after doing it at Spurs under Conte and Mourinho? He's been coaching for 5 years and got UEFA pro license. His next step should be as manager wherever that is.
If Arteta can do it at Arsenal, why can't Ryan do it here?

Not that I'm advocating him over JN, but you're bang on

Van Persie is just on Slot's coaching staff, he's not his main assistant.

He knows the club! So important to know the club.

I say give it to Head Groundsman Darren Baldwin. He knows every blade of grass at the club.

Or who works security on the front gate? Bet they know the club pretty well.

They know where the fire exits are. How to reset the security passcodes.

Give it to someone who knows the club!
