I really don’t get people’s enthusiasm for Mason getting the job permanently - has the attritional Conte ball really got to you that much that you start salivating at anything that resembles playing on the front foot!? Frenetic football is not free flowing football after all.

As much as we know that Levy holds the cards as to exactly what decisions are made and when, I still want a manager and DoF that will push him to making the RIGHT decisions. In fact, in the ITK that we got where Conte was requesting certain things and players, I found myself being more supportive of him, even though he ultimately didn’t get what he asked for, because what he was requesting made perfect sense in the hope it would change the direction of the club. Levy thinks he knows better than Mourinho and Conte, do we think he’s going to change under a complicit Mason regime!?

Also, I think Mason is a good guy, and brilliantly Tottenham, but is it really the right thing to go from those 2 elite experts in football who have CV’s that surely mean something, to someone with zero experience at the highest level!? We‘re still paying the highest season ticket prices in the league so I’d like to feel like I was getting some kind of value for money.

We all need at least some hope that things are being pushed in the right direction, don’t give Levy a free pass by being submissive where Mason’s concerned.

A rebuild under Nagelsmann, or a wrist and make do under Ryan? I know what my choice would be. Don’t be hoodwinked into accepting 2nd best.

The reason I don't think that'll happen is because surely even Levy isn't daft enough to let that happen again?!
He must surely know that after his last three appointments being disasters, and expensive ones at that, he's GOT to get it right this time.

There's no point the stadium earning us all this money if the chairman is going to keep throwing it down the drain with stupidity.
What drain? In Levy's eyes player purchase fee's and wages are the drain...

I agree with your sentiment 100%. Levy's inability to not interfere with any process is always going to be painful, let's hope he gets it right this time... A long term appointment that's happy to bring academy players through, with sprinkling of solid signings. I'm re-setting my expectations for the financial doped premier league. ENIC never playing that game and ain't leaving any time soon. I'll try and errrr.... enjoy any painful re-build😢

So what's this crap about managers needing an entire pre season to coach players to play their systems? Or did I miss something and Mason had a pre season already?
Where did i say that a manager needs a full pre season to coach players to their systems?

Each manager does things differently.

Gary O'Neil at Bournemouth didn't have a preseason.

Carrick didn't have a pre season at Boro.

In my opinion Mason isn't good enough for the job at the moment and is to inexperienced.

I think Mason has tons of potential and if he got the job I'd be behind him but whilst Julien Nagelsmann is available and willing to listen you have to go all out to get him.

If we can't get Nagelsmann and I think we will as others have pointed out there isn't really anywhere else for him to go, but if we can't then we look at Slot, Mason and hopefully De Zerbi.

But as time goes on I really think the current plan is to get a DOF and then Nagelsmann and in praying they pull it off.
As long as Levy is overseeing it, there’s every reason to expect Mason. Just my opinion.

Another week has gone by with nothing...

It's incredibly slow!
It'll probably be like that until the season ends. Until then there'll be clickbait stories about Nagelsmann, Slot or whoever else the media dream up, someone will post it, people will then repeat what they said the last time that name came up, it'll die down, the next repeat will come, people will post what they said the last time that name came up, people will again post their preferred 1,2,3's, currently, JN, Slot, Mason is the ratings catcher on that one.

It's a thrill a minute. Losing this thread will actually make me wet.

Then the transfer and ITK forums open properly and it's all over there for some real megamind stuff :woot:

And seeing as i'm here this morning i'll treat you all to something else.............

Get this right and we're one day away from rampant positivity, it'll be like giving a starving dog a bone.

JN or AS for me but let's not trivialise what RM has done in a short period of time.

We were absolutely on the bones of our arses. Conte doing Conte things. DL giving Stellini the gig. Beaten by Bournemouth at home. Destroyed in 20 mins by Newcastle away. Losing any hope of Champions League.

He's come into a tactical mess with a seemingly fractured dressing room and from 2 down against United helped us back into the game. From 3 down v Liverpool he helped us back into the game. He dropped a few underperformers against a resurgent Palace and we got the points after a pretty good defensive performance.

I appreciate that people will say that he was complicit in us going behind in those first two games but you have to remember where the squad was mentally when he took over. To elicit any sort of performance out of the squad under the circumstances was an achievement in itself.

Do I want him to get the job? Absolutely not but let's give a little credit where it's due. He's definitely got some tactical nous. He seems to have a bit about him from a motivational perspective. A lot of the raw materials seem to be there. I'm unsure that keeping him around for the next manager would be a good idea for Ryan or for Spurs as a manager shouldn't have his assistant imposed on him. If we're going down this "multi-club" model then he could be given the opportunity with a "related" club in a competitive league to get games underneath his belt and cut his teeth for an extended period of time. Managers, like players, move about to different leagues in different countries. Keep him under the Spurs umbrella and go with the RB model where the managers and the players are given the requisite experience to hopefully prove themselves worthy of a place at the top level.
Spot on!!! 👏

I saw someone put the other day, Mason only has one win by a single goal, my goodness me that misses the context of the superb job he's done picking us up off the floor when the team has just been battered 6-1 and he got us a draw against Man.U nearly an incredible comeback draw away to Liverpool and a hard fought great tactical display and clean sheet at home to a very in-form free scoring Palace side!!

As you say people might not want Mason full time but lets not discredit what a fine job he is doing and did previously when taking over also in very difficult circumstances at such short notice with very little time on the training ground to change much.

I don’t expect anything to be announced until the season ends. Mason has the job and Levy will want everyone focused on the final 3 games to avoid any distraction.

I fully expect JN to be given the job after that point.

I sort of understand this from the manager pov given where we are.

From a DoF, what difference in announcing that asap?

What is the rush? We know stuff is happening behind the scenes. Announcing anything now will risk destabalising our push for europa league football - especially if the job isn't given to Mason, who actively wants it.

What difference does it make waiting a few weeks so we get the DOF that possibly aligns to the manager? I’m pretty convinced everything is already lined up and will be announced after the season completes.

Popped in here for the first time in a while. Sigh, our expectations are so low. No pressure for success from the owners, and very little from supporters either.

we think the manager job should go to someone with zero experience?

Mason needs to go and prove himself somewhere first. Can’t believe it’s even up for debate.
