Why not? They announced ETH before the end of last season
Regardless, my gut feel is it’s disrespectful - let the team/fans celebrate their league win for the sake of two weeks. Let Mason have one less thing to deal with in his press conferences.

IIRC the news leaked and ETH wasn't too happy about it but they ended up announcing early as a result.

I don't think Ajax had actually won the league yet, though, whereas it's all done for Slot so less of a concern for Feyenoord I guess.

Haha he "fears it can be worse than the 2021 manager search" which was the most chaotic, embarrassing managerial search of all time and ended with an absolutely awful choice.

I'll be genuinely impressed if we manage to pull that off.

Did we have Paratici lined up by this time back then? Because it was his arrival that prolonged the search, or rather restarted the search for a new manager.
It is quite reasonable to suggest that any DoF we hire will want to have his say on who the coach is. So we might be a long way off of appointing anyone.

I suppose the one positive thing about this manager search compared to the last one is the number of good candidates out there. We lost JN but there is Slot, if we can't get him there's still the likes of Potter and Rodgers available who would both at least give us a football identity.

Excellent read - well worth checking out if you want to know what he's all about.

Especially hearing how much the players like him and respond to him it's hard not to get excited about the guy:

Players seem to adore Slot.

Oussama Idrissi, who has been a key part of Slot’s teams at both AZ and Feyenoord, was asked recently by the Dutch newspaper AD where Slot ranks in the coaches he has played under. “For me, he’s the best,” said the Moroccan winger. “He can develop players and make teams play fun football.”

When it was pointed out that he has also played under Julen Lopetegui, Herve Renard and a guy called Erik ten Hag, Idrissi reiterated: “Slot was the best.”

You will not struggle to find other players with similarly effusive things to say about him. “He is one of the best managers I’ve ever seen,” said Alireza Jahanbakhsh, the Iranian forward currently playing under Slot at Feyenoord. “In football terms, even the best. At the moment, he is the best in the Netherlands.”

Reiss Nelson spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, becoming a regular in the second half of the campaign. “Arne Slot is a great manager,” he told the Colney Carpool podcast. “He really got me into my rhythm. He gave me a lot of opportunities to play and I excelled.”
Sign Nelson on a free for slot!

Both potter and Rodgers have turned us down before and we are in an even worse state now then when they did that.
Just have to hope no one fills slot in on what Levy is like to work for. Having an incompetent boss (footballing wise) overruling your decisions, forcing you to accept players they have bought because they supposedly have value etc
People who are turning their nose up at Slot should be bloody grateful we might be able to get a manager who ticks majority of boxes. Sad fact is we all know we're going to be here again in less than 2 years ..... Yep I'm feeling optimistic this Monday morning

Hard to argue with any of that tbh.
FWIW I like the sound of slot, and if we are to hire Spors too it sounds like we could begin to align the vision and play football the fans would get behind.
Getting our scouting and recruitment right is really the difference here when we are competing (realistically) with arsenal and Liverpool (possibly Newcastle) for players.
Fingers crossed these appointments become open secrets as soon as possible and it allows us to get moving on clearing out unwanted players and signing those in key areas.

Agree.

  • Scouting
  • Recruitment
  • Style Of Play / Identity
  • Clearing The Decks

These are the boxes to be ticked and this is done with putting the right personalities in place with a coherent vision. Which is why I'm not that fussed at who the next Head Coach is as long as they are in alignment. We do this over the summer and fans will get behind it. It will set us up to go again with a new approach next season.

I would be happy with any of Slot, Amorim and De Zerbi.

However they’re only going to succeed if there’s buy in from the fans and from the board. There needs to be a significant clear out this summer and a successful transfer window in which our biggest issues are addressed, which is practically in every part of the pitch. We’ll likely have a transition season where we don’t get top 4 and have up and down results/performances but after watching awful football since 2019, I think most fans would take that if it resulted in say a 5th place, an ECL trophy if we’re lucky but most importantly some evidence of a shared vision on and off the pitch and some actual exciting football.

I can’t see us getting top 4/5 for a very long time. Too many good teams further down their development than us as well as the usual big boys. Think we need to accept we are going to be mid table for a while.

Told just now we are still speaking to various candidates agents etc. We still don't know who we want is the truth of it.

Levy likes Slot others not so keen. Yes we are still doing this, with everyone and their dog having an opinion regardless of how much they understand about the game. It seems just when we are starting to come to a decision, someone else weighs in that really shouldn't have a say in the bloody matter.

Wow, quite staggering (even for us) that this far on we are still canvassing.

I presume part of our issue is that if levy likes slot he has to wait until slot is ready to have a formal interview and find out if its truly a goer. Until then he's floating about thinking of other managers and not being able to make the call.

Hopefully now slot is eredivisie champion he can talk properly and get this deal done.

Appreciate the update.
Its crazy we hadn't agreed on a contingency plan when the possibility of Conte not renewing had been brewing for months.
