What’s sad is that Levy once had a “philosophy” that worked - buy young, low cost players with potential (Walker, Eriksen, Son, Lennon, Dier, Adele) and hire a modern aggressive coach (Poch). It gave us great football.

Perhaps he got carried away with the higher revenues from the Champions League and the new stadium which he has wasted?

But his time is up.

This is where I really thought we were going back to, and was quite pleased about it. The mythical Dortmund blueprint. Get a DoF with a track record of sourcing young players with high potential, and a manager with a track record of using them. I fear this isn’t the route we will end up taking now, the list of DoF’s has gone very quiet, and the a manger chase is looking so scattergun it’s embarrassing.
Even when the story dropped this morning and there was a rumour Slot had declared he was going to sell a number of senior players including Kane and Son, on the assumption we had a DoF capable of relaxing them with younger players of suitable style and ability to kick of the huge reboot needed, I was actually onboard with it.

So what? He's either the right man to turn things around or he isn't. It can't be a case of he's the right man but we will go for a cheaper option who we are less convinced about. Get the right people in place even if it costs at the outset, and let's not watch our players values drop dramatically year on year whilst they are sunning themselves in sunnier climes on loan.

Buy cheap, buy twice as the saying goes. Spend a little extra at the outset of it is the better option, and reap the rewards

You can indeed run a football club just based on numbers. What you can't do is run a successful one.
The problem is how "success" is defined differently by the owners, board and on the other hand fans and players.

No what it is is that they are looking at it purely from a monetary pov. You can't run a successful football club based only on financial numbers.
I hate defending Levy, and I am not really doing that - but I can see how he views this.

I think Levy does understand that success leads to additional revenue. We certainly know that he understands the value of CL.

But, Levy is risk-averse by nature. He has been successful maximizing returns on low-risk investment into Tottenham. Recently, he has pushed the boat out a bit - first he spent big on Ndombele (and recent big transfer budgets), and second he convinced Lewis to put up an additional £150M investment into the club. In both cases, Levy's "gamble" did not pay off. Ndombele was a flop, with no real re-sale value. And the recent investments did not push Spurs into CL spots.

That will make someone like Levy very nervous about taking more risks - particularly if it involves going to Lewis for more money. That is how Levy would lose his job.

The harsh reality is - we are at a crossroad, and Levy has no idea which way to go. We can invest now, and continue to push for CL spots next season, or, we can take a step back, and build a new project. It sounds like Levy wants to do both - but that is impossible. We can't build on the current squad, without substantial investment from the club - nobody of value to sell, and several key positions to fill. At the same time, we should not be keeping Kane/Son if we are going to start on a new project - since they are too old to be part of the finished project, and won't make a difference next year (if we don't invest in veteran players for the squad).

As I said - I understand where Levy is coming from. But, he should also understand he created this mess he is in. If he has money lined up - then he needs to keep taking risks. If he does not have money lined up, he needs to salvage what value he can from key assets, and build for a better tomorrow. Right now, we are just stuck in the mud, not moving in either direction.

Well again it depends on your definition of success

Unfortunate Levy and Co think success is money

The fans will, rightly, never get on board with that

This is not about risks...this is about judgement and conviction on your choices and seeing it through.

He brings the serial winner Jose and sacks him a week before final.

He does all 'due diligence' and when they say the price, he just turns back and gives up...

Levy thinks he knows football because he's been watching us in stadium over 20yrs. He thinks he knows it all because he is the most experienced chairman in PL...
But what he fails to understand is, world has moved on. World is more risk on. To succeed in the pitch, you need to give far more than ever. Levy & board are naive, laughable & downright an embarrassment for this club

Is there not something about the cost of players being split over the number of years of contract whereas the compensation for the managers is basically all up front?
Yes but 15m is fuck all, we have lost treble that by missing out on cl
The most important man at the club is worth paying 15m for

I'm so fucked off, I don't think I've ever been this angry at the club. I'm absolutely flabbergasted that we still seemingly don't know what the hell we are doing! This is a complete and utter shambles! I was convinced Slot was going to be huge for us, I'm absolutely gutted he's not coming. I will not be spending a penny of my money on the club this coming season, I genuinely won't be. No longer am I funding this shitshow!

I’m sold.

A manager that actually wants to pass forward 🤩

I've been on it all day and people are probably sick of me but if you don't want to pay 20m (🤞) and get a similar play style to slot or city (wishful) then you appoint ange imo.

Just find out who wants the job first, then with that list of 1 get him in and let Arry get on with it.

I’m sat here, seething and in my pants. Couched in darkness, my features illuminated only by rays of Dharmesh Sheth. The curtains are still open and I’m on my third scotch. Waiting, for a fucking explanation.

There's a picture of an email from Donna Cullen flying about - I'm hesitant to post it in case it's not real but it does say there's "substantial amount of unsubstantiated speculation in the media"
She also has she/her under her email signature which is sending people on twitter into a frenzy 😒

Levy has turned the club into a laughing stock. I am so sick of it all. I wish I could give up following Spurs and save myself all this grief. Sadly, I am addicted and don’t suppose I will be able to.
