I know a lot is made of the step up from Scottish football to the Premier League. I wonder what the difference is like going from the A league to the J league and then to the Scottish League. There's certainly going to be massive cultural differences compared to going from Scotland to England. Crazy to think the journey he's taken and fair play to him has stepped up each time.

No one hopes he would fail. People just fear he would because of the gulf in class between where he’s performing now and here, that’s all it is
yet the same people were falling over themselves for a Slot who comes from a League which is equally uncompetitive and has a managerial record that is only a couple of seasons

I don’t call them fans then…sorry hoping someone fails at the club you support is completely the opposite of what support is???
There are some so called fans who hope we flirt with relegation next season just to try and get rid of Levy, search through the posts on some threads you will find them.

I've been on here long enough to know that there are a fair few who revel in misery and would only be too happy to see Ange fail for internet points.

I've seen plenty in match threads hoping to see us lose because it supposedly fits what they want, like pushing the current manager towards the door.

Watched some of the highlights of the two Old Firm meetings in the Scottish Cups this year, the League Cup final and the Cup semi. The quality of some of the play, particularly the finishing, is terrible. It's quite incredible the difference in playing style the PL and the other top leagues has over the lesser leagues. Will require a big adjustment from Ange, especially as we've heard he didn't sacrifice his style in the CL, hence the poor results. Definitely a big risk for us and our leaky defence, gonna have to make the right buys this summer to have any chance of success.

To be fair have you watched us much this past season....terrible would be putting it nicely!

The level of the league isn’t relevant apparently. It’s all about cuddliness, passionate speeches and local weekend league level mic’d up coaching sessions mentioning ball speed, passing with purpose and working hard for 90 minutes. I’m sure that stuff isn’t too dissimilar from what I heard from Kevin Horlock as a 16 year old at Needham Market and I wasn’t blown away by it then either. If he signs I will hope I’m wrong because I’m tired of shit football at this club but honestly the level it takes to impress people on here is concerning

Aside from all the predictions and worry and doom and gloom that goes on in this thread at times, whoever the next Manager is, let’s just hope we can move past the last 3 years of dull, negative non-Tottenham football and atmosphere.

Watch this video and try and tell me we aren’t a special football club! The right Manager can make us feel like that again. 💙🤍 💪

I’m not sure any manager is going to re-energize my enthusiasm for the club straight away. There are too many bridges to rebuild first. I think it’ll be a slow burn and then if things seem to be falling in place I may start spending my money on the club again. My buzz for the club has completely evaporated. I stopped going to games, then just watched matches on TV and now completely forget matches are on and just check the scores at the end. I’ll always love Spurs and hope the new manager works out but the club seems rotten atm and it’s just not fun anymore.

I mean all the real nuts and bolts tactical work is a) boring to the casual viewer on Youtube so edited out and b) largely done behind the scenes in long, drawn out tactical sessions. The passionate speeches and mic'd up stuff you see from most 'elite' managers is pretty similar - Jose was often the same in our documentary and often the passionate pre-match speeches are just basic "get the fuck out there and smash it lads" even at the top level.

The impressive stuff is building the right culture, holding players to high standards, instilling tactical principles, etc. Can't really show that in a swiftly edited 3 minute video, though.

Out of curiosity, who would you prefer?

Still think we should be going all out for JN 1st choice, then De Zerbi 2nd choice with Gallardo 3rd choice.

Ange is probably coming but would be my 4th choice but feel at least we will enjoy watching the attacking football.

If it is Ange, nothing would make me happier than to be surprised. My sense, though, is that he ain’t it.

I get that but this is the content people are basing their entire hype towards him on seemingly. It really is not impressive stuff, it just isn’t. If there were even one example of his side competing against competent opposition/competent coaches I’d be far more willing to say “Okay cool, he’s clearly got some potential” but winning the Scottish league is so many levels below where we are as a club, I expect better, we’re a huge club that should only be dealing with managers that are at least somewhat proven at the highest levels of football.

I want Enrique. Plays good football, brings through youth, nice bloke and Barcelona and the Spanish FA hiring him as head coach is a massively ringing endorsement for me, that’s two of the best run football institutions in the history of this game from a football and coaching standpoint putting their faith in him. That alone is enough to outweigh anything Ange brings to the table due to the level he’s operating at currently.

Whoever comes in is going to need a serious GK and CB or they’ll fail anyway though and I do believe the largest contributor to our failings recently has been poor recruitment and poor performance from the players. A good coach will get more out of them if they play a better style of football for sure, but there are a certain number of players who’s peak level will not cut it. The players we’ve signed in the last 18-24 months have been so much better though and have great potential mostly or excellent attitudes to improve (fucking love Emerson now).

I wouldnt rely on this to much as generally im cynical about mic'd up type stuff - but as he is a genuine guy, this may help answer your question

The kind of coaching you’d expect to hear at an under-11s tournament.

Yeah fair enough - I totally get that.

In isolation I agree about the mic'd up session. It's like getting excited about watching a player do keepie-uppies - kinda meaningless. I do however think that if you dive a bit deeper into his (tactical and personal) principles, achievements and see how he speaks and carries himself he's an impressive bloke and there's something about him to get excited about beyond "him what won the SPL".

I can also see the appeal of Enrique but my gut feeling about him is that, regardless of his pedigree and trophies, he's just not the guy for us right now. He plays nice stuff and is a more appealing character than Conte or Jose, but I'd put him in the same broad category of "manager likely to get fucked off at Levy after about 12 months once he realises he's never going to be able to achieve what he's achieved at previous clubs". I just can't see him lasting beyond 18 months-2 seasons tops and think we'd end up exactly where we are now, albeit with a more entertaining style of play.

I think we could use someone a bit more humble given where we are as a club right now - someone who will really "get" the DNA of Spurs rather than just seeing us as another job in a gilded career. And that's one area I think Ange is streets ahead of most of the other remaining candidates.
