That's a consistent theme in the videos i've watched to be fair. Looks much more comfortable in the centre than on the right. Commits and beats a lot of midfield players to progress his team up the pitch. Remain to be convinced of his passing, vision, defensive awareness and no idea what he's like in front of goal really.

Can't see why Roma would allow him to leave on a loan with an option considering he is one of their more valuable assets. An obligation makes more sense to me from their perspective.

Option or Obligation - if there is some appearance clauses , it will make sense in terms of risk we have to take

Question to the people who watch Serie A and have some knowledge of his Conference League games (@Ghost Hardware @fishhhandaricecake ) - Considering he scored a hattrick in the QF and the winning goal in the finals, would you consider him a clutch/delivers-on-the-big-occasions kinda player?

Just guessing here but perhaps Conte likes his ability to deliver when it really matters?

I just can't look past his injury record - he's a big lad, and I reckon with knees like that he'll (further) lose his pace and explosive power.

I just think this would be a bad idea.

I get the whole "if Conte wants him, it's good enough for me", and that's fine, obviously, but my gut feeling is Maddison would be worth the incremental money we would pay for him.

When you consider he scored the goal that broke Roma's trophyless run (which was the same length as ours) then, yes, he was clutch. That hat trick against Bodo as well, the context was pretty big, remember Bodo had humiliated Roma in the group stage.

He did the same to Salah and De Bruyne because his team was fucking loaded and he had world class options in front of them, Kulusevski also played in a significantly better team than Jose’s Roma. Zaniolo should be the player they build their team around instead he’s being binned off.

It should tell you something if you’re willing to really pay attention and analyze the situation. For one, Zaniolo is one of the first names on the team sheet and played 42 times this year. It ain’t the same thing as Kulu or Salah in the slightest, those guys weren’t starters most of tbe time.

But if the De Bruyne/Salah false equivalence suits you, then be my guest to live in dreamland about what this transfer actually is.
I disagree, Mourinho did this because he has zero patience with young talents and nurturing them.

He throws them in and if they don't show something early on, he sidelines them. Rodon had a promising first game for us but was back on the bench, you could say that about dozens of players.

Mourinho wants and needs players with strong mentalities who can perform almost immediately.

Conte is a little different, he wants experience but he is also an expert at getting the best out of under performers.

Lukaku, Hakimi, Skriniar, Moses, Willian, Hazard, Kulusevski, Pogba, Young, Alonso, etc etc - players who have come off bad seasons or generally been under performers and have all taken their game too the next level cause of Conte.

I think the history of recovery from ACL's has only improved as the process has improved - Van Dijk returned like a rolls royce, you don't get more agile at his height than him (generally). ACL is an awful injury but it's usually the players confidence after that hinders them, not their knees.

Im saying no because hes painfully average. has a crap output, runs down blind alleys constantly, is one footed and is perma crocked too
It's like you describing Lamela.... that's how I felt about him.. in his final 2 yrs he grew on me though but I found him very frustrating in his first 4 plus years.

No I'm not knocking Lamela that was done to death when he was here.

FWIW this is the blurb about him on his wiki page:

"Standing at 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in), Zaniolo is a tall, strong, and fast player, who is also a good dribbler. A versatile player, due to his creativity, technique, work-rate, energy, and physicality, he can operate in several midfield positions, and has been used as an attacking midfielder or "trequartista," as an offensive-minded central midfielder or "mezzala," as a box-to-box midfielder, and even as a deep-lying playmaker.

He can even play out on the flanks, due to his goalscoring abilities, ability to create chances for teammates, the breadth he provides, and the attacking threat he poses with his striking ability from distance and penchant for making late runs.

A talented player, he is considered one of Italy's and Europe's most promising young prospects."

Thanks for that. In that sense I think he's worth a punt as a loan with option.

How many times have we gotten close over the last 5-6 seasons and failed to deliver in finals (League Cup final x2, Champions League final, Battle of The Bridge etc.) despite the ability of our world class forwards, or the whole team in general?

Successful squads always need clutch players imo, even if they aren't of the highest ability. Perisic strikes me as another player who is extremely clutch.

Not sure he's our 'top' choice
I’m not surprised if so, I must say I’m still hoping we don’t go through with it. There is a part of me that would be genuinely curious to see what Conte could do with him. But I guess I was really hoping to see us make one attacking addition that would really push for a starting spot in our best line up. And as we don’t really have a creative midfielder, then it would be an obvious pick to bring in some real quality in that position.

Unlocked; let's maybe try and be a bit constructive.

I literally know no things about this guy. No things. I will watch a YouTube video of him and then want him.

That's how this forum works for me: watch the video; want them.
