We will see what happens come the end of the window but I don't see how what we're doing makes any logical sense if we don't pursue this. First it appeared that the backline was the priority. That was seemingly abandoned and then seemingly our priority was Zaniolo and Porro. Porro looks done, fantastic stuff and thankfully we started hearing that we was infact looking at the backline once again in Hincapie.

Now I was glad that we chose to prioritise CB, however it looks from the outside looking in that it was Hincapie or bust. I think it made logical sense to focus on CB at the expense of Zaniolo but I seriously doubt anybody can come up with a reasonable explanation why we would not now be looking to bring in Zaniolo to the club if we cannot secure a CB. Danjuma is the otherside of the pitch, he's not filling the void of Zaniolo, he appears to be cover because Son is having a rough season and needs a respite. I don't think Richarlison returning makes a difference. Zaniolo was meant to be to replace Moura, even if Moura is still available, let's face it, he's not going to be contributing much it seems things behind closed doors have shifted with him. Zaniolo was to battle with Kulusevki and allow for the potential 3-5-2. We have shifted/shifting 3 players in Gill, Doherty and Spence. We appear to be able to register 3 players for the Champions League. Roma no longer want Zaniolo, Conte supposedly desperate for him. If we can't sign a CB, what justification can we have for not making this addition happen with the exception that Conte is simply not being backed.

As I say we will see what happens by end of the window, CB rightly the priority but if nothing is biting on that line by now, we should perhaps switch to giving the manager what he wants and if we don't, I am going to be steadfast in my confidence that Conte is gone come summertime.

I think it's as simple as we view Zaniolo as a risk and we also don't want to commit to paying for him when we don't have a manager committed beyond the Summer.

We can scream "back the manager" as much as we like but there has to be some give from his side too, no? Even if Conte said "If you sign Zaniolo for me, I will also sign" you can tie that up in a fairly simple conditional contract if you were that worried about it.

I agree with that completely and it further vindicates I think the belief that Conte will not be here in 6 months. I think the club is correct to not commit to signing any players should the manager be unwilling to commit to seeing they are made the best use of, though it depends on the terms the club want him to commit to. This is the only logic that I think fits this situation, that both Conte and the club are unwilling to take a risk on eachother. I think the best we can hope for is a loan and kicking the can down the road of whether the club/manager will commit to eachother.

we can try all we want, there’s nobody else that’s even remotely possible today
There is of course the possibility that just because it's not been mentioned on this site, doesn't mean to say we haven't been talking to countless other players with tentative agreements already in place. ;)

Levy will be delighted if we don't sign anyone else. 2 players in.4 out
The wages he be saving.
Honestly think that's our business done. Levy will naively think the Porro signing will appease the fans.

Spot on. There’s also the distraction of QSI interest and now the impact of the ESL members no longer being held to account in the courts that has meant teams and agencies are playing 4D chess right now with us. We all knew Paratici was all about many names without giving away the main targets.

Mate, how in any world would you know what anyone who hasn’t spoken to you think?
yes ENIC are investing heavily to make more out of the club. That means being tight with the money but they aren’t going away and unlike Newcastle and Chelsea, we aren’t seeing any sugar daddies coming in any time soon.

We joke but we know Levy knows he has an image problem and he’s very thin skinned over stuff like that. I can see him splashing the cash to appease the fans (rather than appease the manager).

We need to keep up the Enic out chants then.

Wish I had your faith but you have more information than me.
I honestly think only thing Levy cares about making profit. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

At the same time the figures being touted aren’t exactly high in todays market. Even if he wasn’t a hit we would recoup a decent chunk of what we outlay?

Who / when is the last player tottenham signed on a deadline day that had not already been widely reported in mainstream media as a deal in progress already?

Luis Saha (2012) VdV (2010)? I think there was chatter re Sissoko before deadline day in 2016 and everyone knew he was leaving Newcastle that day for sure just a question of where.

just not something that happens these days.

I think if we signed this guy instead of a CB it would genuinely annoy me more than please me tbh.

We haven’t had any ITK on Zaniolo in days but plenty on Hincapie so I don’t think you need to worry.
Yeah hopefully the noise we’ve had recently means we produce something good on the final day. It’s not that I don’t like the idea of signing Zaniolo but a good CB would be season changing for us, Zaniolo really wouldn’t in my opinion

I still think this will happen but more just because im bored and want something to cling on to for entertainment purposes today.

Think it will be a loan though as Roma will be pushed into a corner by us and say Leeds
