To be honest I never thought of him as not suited to the EPL because he played well for us in the season we got CL and he did well for Portsmouth too, although I would probably agree that he may be more effective in slower leagues.

I just think with the way we play now, being quite reliant on speed, he just didn't match up well with the way we played in the end and if I'm honest, he looked a bit 'heavier' every time I saw him which didn't help matters.

Think he's a really classy player even if the physical work rate might of been a little too much for him at times.

Will miss him, wish him well.

Getting a replacement as good as or better than Niko could be very difficult. He's made it clear that Bale and Lennon are his number one choices and he doesn't rotate. It will just be the same scenario over again, they will leave because they don't get games.

Would've preferred to keep him but fully understand that he needed to leave. Good luck to the guy.

Agree, will be hard to find a squad player as good as him.
And it will be impossible to find someone equally handsome.

Not so sure we need a replacement for someone who barely played at all last season...

I do have som fond memories of him and a few of his goals, and I will miss him. Best of luck to you Niko!

I only read the 1st half of you post and I was writing a reply I read the second but you said exactly what I was gonna say. As good a player as he can be, we just simply wouldn't use him as much as we could and probably should so even though it's unfortunate to say, there's not much point in keeping him.

Townsend would do a job. Lower wages too. Plus he won't be as desperate to leave.

He contributed very little to our campaign this season despite our squad looking very thin. Therefore it was a good move to sell IMO despite having a good 10-11 season. I did think Harry should have given him a try in VDV's role though and given him more game time.

Do you really think Townsend is good enough? It's only a matter of time before he starts coming out and saying he wants to play more regularly too.

Real shame he has gone but don't blame him really. Very talented player. Wand of a foot at times
