I finally got round to watching the game last night. First half was a very insipid affair with us having some semblance of control and knocking the ball around reasonably well. Second half degenerated into a bit of a scrappy affair with neither team having any control but Norwich having more ball and chances than they had in the first. This could have been in part due to Hudd coming on as it meant our movement in the central midfield area slowed down, and became less dynamic, and Hudd sits deeper than either Livermore or Carroll had been.
Carroll was neat and tidy, technically good and moves to receive the ball well, but just seems to lack a bit of substance, seems a little lightweight, not the best at getting a foot in defensively and doesn't want to go past anyone with the ball. Early days, not writing him off, just my initial observations.
Falque also looks technically good, played the best ball of the night, but flitted in and out of the game and wasn't seen for longish spells. He has some ability, but was a bit peripheral.
Dempsey was uninspiring. Walker was really ropey. Gifted Norwich the best chance of the first half when he did one of his "give the ball away sloppily at the very wrong moment" passes, luckily a combination their guy fucking it up and Caulker getting in a last ditch tackle saved us.
Every touch Dawson took flew about 60 yards to a defenders head. There were times when we were knocking the ball around, making about 15 passes, it would come back to Dawson who'd promptly launch it to oblivion. I'm sure I saw him mouth "Have it" once.
Sigurdsson has mastered the art of just getting in the way. Never seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Naughton looked like a rb playing lb to me.
Lloris was very good. Getting out really rapidly twice to dive at the feet of a 1v1 or dangerous moment and came out and clattered a few crosses. Come on AVB, this is a no brainer.
Bale actually seemed to have a decent game. Certainly was our only genuine threat.
