Well, well...

12 Games, 5 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats.

Rubbish at home W2-D2-L2
Mixed bag away W3-D0-L3

Shipping goals F20-A21.

Sounds like a poor start to a season yeah?

If we beat Hull by a goal, we'll have the exact same start for points, wins, draws, losses and goal difference.

What is this other season I speak of? And did the coach of that team manage to implement his strategies?

Er... yep.

Tottenham Hotspur 2012-13-> Andre Villas Boas.

We lost only 3 more games that whole season too.

Suffice to say, I think the gloom around the fanbase is just a tad over the top.

(Expected reply: 'But we had Bale...' )

Yes and bale (literally)single handedly won us most of those games later in the season.

Who's going to step up out of the current mob?

But we had... Clint Dempsey...

Also works with 'we had Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson...'

Okay well hopefully the back 4 can get its act together, Lamela starts realizing his potential in the PL, Eriksen hits form, Chadli continues his form, Soldado comes good or Kane continues his form(God, we are in dire need of a striker). Too much to hope for there. I'll be legitimately dumbfounded if Poch ends the season like AVB did.

I can't get over how blindly optimistic some of you are.

Spin it any way you want-- we are fucking garbage. Our team is replete with slow, weak, overrated players. We are far better on paper than we are in real life.

Anyway, keep hoping; me, I just see what I see. We are in some fucking trouble and that's all there is to it.

Yeah... I appreciate the OP's thoughts here but:

a) That form chart from that season included a shitty August while Levy was still fumbling over pennies over our incomings (fortunately he seems to have realized this is stupid)
b) We had a core that however much they lacked in talent, they made up for with resolve. They at least had enough respect for the club to put in sufficient effort such that they weren't turned over by anyone, even if they lost in the end.
c) We had Bale, who aside from being top notch quality papered over the cracks of our inefficiencies in attack.

I have hope that we'll turn it around soon, but we are still in a bad rot at the moment and I see nothing to believe we'll bring things together anywhere close to the extent that squad did two years ago.

I'd trade Paulinho, Dembele, and Capoue for one of Livermore or a younger Parker back.

Unless we strengthen in Jan, there is no way back. Its as simple as that.
We need to start wining at Lane - cant be gifting 3 points to every team that turns up.

Irony is we have a World class goal keeper - yet we give away goals at will. More than strikers, we just have to stop conceding stupid individual goals.

Last season we gave 20 goals by individual mistakes - highest in league by a fair margin. This season I haven't counted, but won't be surprised if we have already made 8 to 10 individual mistakes.

Key is to get a good CB & a proper CM in jan.

Hopefully this time we build a team based on all 11 players rather than 10 players giving the ball to Bale and hoping he wins us the game.

The simple point I tried to make is that the last time we employed a manager with a 'philosophy', it took time to bed in.

I'm not suggesting we're gonna rocket up the league, but it is patently ridiculous to forecast utter doom. We have seriously talented players in Lamela, Eriksen and probably Kane too. They are young, just as Bale was and given time could well prosper.

Rome wasn't built in a day and the knee-jerk fatalism to this poor early form is one of the main irritations I have with our fan base. Our run of games this side of Christmas is notably easier than we have had until now, and I'd advise people wait until January or even further before delivering misery laden invectives against the club.

Enic out? Do me a favour.

No.

We lost 5-0 to Liverpool and then he was sacked.

Agree that the doom mongering is getting a bit ott, so we need threads like this to balance it out. Performances have been gash, but it's only November and talk of impending relegation battles are a bit premature imo.

Having said that, I really wish we hadn't employed a manager with a 'philosophy', both then and now. Makes my bloody teeth itch.

January window will be key, if we dont strengthen (and inject some much needed pace into the side while we're at it) we're in fucking trouble with some of this mob of players.

Not so long ago... Bale bailed us out most of that season! I can't see Eriksen, Lamela, Kane & Chadli doing the same this season to be honest. Bale even has Wales playing with more hunger and desire... Something we are extremely lacking in.

Not in 2012/13 he didn't, which is the season in question.
But early in the next season he got sacked with the same core of players we have now. We were 7th when he got sacked, this season we're 12th, I don't think the gloom and doom is over the top. Lose more than the next 3 games and it's good night Poch.
