Yes the phoney war is over. Today we actually have a competitive game for the first time since we sent Birmingham down to what I now call the 'hahahahahaha West Ham are in it division'.

Riots have delayed our magnificent first steps into the new season but tonight we move to the normally quiet, but now at festival time mental, city of Edinburgh to play some purple people....or Hearts as they like to be known.

Sadly I don't think Chrissivad is around to do his normal excellent work on the Match Thread so instead amateur me is just going to start this thread, walk away and let yous lot chat about how we are going to horsewhip them to within an inch of their Lithuanian behinds/struggle because Levy is a twat (delete as appropriate).

Please keep all chat related to the game in here (team news, lineups, traffic updates etc) and if Mr Sivad does turn up (or someone else equally creative and full of stats feels the need) then I'm sure all th necessary info can go in here.

COYS!

BBC Team News:

Europa League qualifier, first leg

  • Venue: Tynecastle
  • Date: Thursday, 18 August
  • Kick-off: 1945 BST
  • Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC Radio Scotland
Hearts are without midfielder Mehdi Taouil for the Europa League first-leg qualifier against Tottenham.

But Eggert Jonsson and Arvydas Novikovas have shaken off knocks, while David Obua and Andy Webster have resumed training after injuries.

Tottenham defenders Ledley King, Alan Hutton and William Gallas are all missing through injury.

As are midfielders Sandro, Steven Pienaar, Jermaine Jenas, Luka Modric, Tom Huddlestone and Wilson Palacios.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp may be forced to play the likes of Jake Livermore and Danny Rose.

However, the visitors are buoyed by the news that influential playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has fully recovered from an ankle injury.

Strikers Kevin Kyle and Calum Elliot are long-term absentees for Hearts.

Pre-season is supposed to be the time where we get all of our players back to full fitness, ready to go for the new campaign.

Yet, we somehow go into our first match with nine injured players in the squad. I don't know what it is about this club and this unwaivering curse of players picking up constant injuries.

It's odd isn't it? Particularly as so many of our players are out and it doesn't feel like we've finalised the squad yet.

Kind of like Xmas Day coming around but knowing you won't get your best presents until the next day when you see the 'good' relatives.

Feels kind of hollow and only a good performance and victory on the night will fix that feeling - however all the injuries to the spine of our team make that a little unlikely.

FOOTBALL IS BACK.

I don't know what happened at the weekend, that was obviously a series of non-Spurs friendlies that in no way affected us in any way possible of ways.

"Hahahahahaha West Ham are in it division" football is shit. Except for any of the players that are Spurs loanees.

and we're only 3 points off the top, with a game in hand, so a good start for us.....
