I'm massively on the fence over this one.

At the beginning of the window I said I really didn't want Sissoko or Wijnaldum. I didn't think they performed consistently last season or stepped up when the going got tough.

With Sissoko not sure where he'll play.

But it appears the management want him and that is enough for me.

So I'll support him and believe he can be a success but my head thinks he probably won't be.

The positions of the three forward midfielders are going to become ever more fluid in my opinion. Both on the pitch and in regards to starting 11s.

This is where I am currently.

Didn't want him > didn't think he'd be a success for us > happy the manager got what he wanted> hope he does well > he'll have my full support at the Lane

On a side note; I love how we all seem to have watched the entire 38 of last season's Newcastle games now.

The only bits I saw of Sissoko was him tearing our midfield a new one at the end of last season! Looked a £30m player that game!

I think it's pretty risk free... I love how the structured payments will work... 6M per year for 5years, most likely a minimum of... Maybe 15 to 18M. So we can give him a couple of seasons and see how things go...

If he does well. He would most likely be rewarded with a new contract and look like a bargain for 30m, if he is not, we can sell him for a "loss" for about 20M, and still be making a profit even thou technically we are selling him off lower then what we bought him for. Heck we might even add a buy back clause at 25M so we screw Newcastle of 5M and we save a few million too. Seriously what a deal.... :ROFLMAO:

But now I am fully behind him to do well, he is one of us now. And I expect nothing less then the best form him.

I don't think that's how the payments thing work. If we sell him after 1 year it doesn't mean we only give Newcastle 5m - we aren't renting the lad. We owe Newcastle 30m (or whatever it is) one way or the other.

Sure, 30m isn't what it used to be but it's still an absolute boat load of money. I really hope he comes in full of confidence and ready to go rather than worrying about the pressure of the price tag.

I'm pretty sure Poch will get the most out of him and use his skills where they belong. Unlike Pardew, Carver and McClaren.

Who thought Dembele would be our most important player a year ago?

I don't think anyone has claimed they have seen all the games.

I probably saw around 10 Newcastle games last season, plus highlights, reading various media etc on their players' performance and through that I have formed an opinion.

This is the basis of the forum, none of us are true experts and being criticised for acting like we are is beyond tiring.

Didn't take long.

It didn't take long for someone to have a contrasting opinion to you in the thread on the matter? So every one should just say amazing singing, will be a success, worth the money, #trustinpotch. Repeat ad nausiuem.

I journalist from these parts that follow French football very closely reckons he'll be a great signing. His reasoning is simply that he's always great for France, and that his teammates at Spurs will be much closer in ability to his national teammates than at Newcastle.

Furthermore, Lloris vouched for him and did his bit in making him come here. He'd probably know something about his character.

I think he'll be a very big hit at first... out to impress and glad he's in the premier league and Europe. As the season progresses I think that will dissapear somewhat, and I think even moreso than some of our lot did last season, if we're not in the running for something his attitude will drop.

Always came across as a "depends how I'm feeling" kind of player. His application and performances in a relegation battle were shameful, and he doesn't seem to respond well to hard times... which every team gets every season.

You can't ignore that he was dreadful last season. Many point to the euro's, but being surrounded by good players can work for anyone (look at Phil Neville) and tbh that just makes me question his motivations even more.

I predict he'll have pissed off the majority of the lane and poch by April with some abject displays.

Im so deep on the fence that the fucking fencing post is impaled in my ass

I think he will be a hit but he wont assist or score many but may well be valuable in that he covers for more of the important players eg Dembele. He will allow us to have options but will he be effective?

Think he will do ok, but that's all relative really. People need to realise that 30 million pounds isn't what it used to be though.

You're so right - the price has to be looked at in the current market context. To get £13m for Ryan Mason puts things into perspective a bit as well.

Not a fan of Sissoko (although he can turn it on and be terrific from time to time), and so I don't think he'll be considered a 'hit' as such. However, at 10pm on deadline day our squad looked very thin - especially for someone who can deputise for either Dembele or in midfield or Alli further forward - and with Sissoko we suddenly look well covered almost everywhere. So I don't think he'll be a 'hit', but I'm happy with the signing and think he'll make a contribution at some point during the season.

miss. once the novelty of his lung-bursting but ultimately fruitless runs has worn off people will see him for the technically limited and unintelligent player he is.

This is my fear, but still I voted yes. I really don't want us to have paid £30m for a flop. Mainly because we are not Chelsea or Man C and cannot afford to do that. When we pay those sums for players, they simply have to succeed.
