big clubs frequently use the media to tap up players and wait to see how the player reacts

in Modric case after each story appeared he came out with one of his own stating he didn't want to leave Tottenham and was very happy here

The very fact that all these guys are bringing Modric up in interviews and stating their admiration for him shows they're interested but Modric nips it in the bud each time

there's no point making a bid for a player who has stated he don't want to leave his current club after you've attempted to tap him up

Exactly, this is something that Berbatov never learned while he was with us, but Modric has

Luka Modric:

"Let's be serious. All this is just so-called exclusive rumours, but I don't know who really needs them.

"Are they funny? Yes, they are very funny for me.

"But of course, it is always nice to see your name being linked with such a club as Barcelona, but one has to keep their feet on the ground.

"At the end of the day it's just rumours without any foundation.

"First it was Chelsea, then Inter Milan and also Manchester United, now it is Barcelona.

Exactly, this is something that Berbatov never learned while he was with us, but Modric has

Berbs has had 65 strikes on goal so far this season. 17 goals.

Last season Hudd had 83 shots on goal. Only 14 hit the target. Only 2 went in.

Our central midfield, is SO bad in the final 3rd that it isnt even funny.

It is really costing us a lot of points, but still people mention Hoddle and Xavi on here in relation to Modders and Hudd???

People still chant Shhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooootttt when Hudd gets the ball. People have a romantic ideal of what our midfield is supposed to be. The truth is, their lack of goals and assists is the difference between us and the title.

Something needs to be changed up. Our strikers are bog standard Prem strikers. They are not shit. They are Internationals.

And nobody is making them tick.

If you had £20m to spend on a midfielder, Gibbs, who would you spend it on, and how would you set our stall out in the middle of the park?

What all of our attacking players are lacking, in various degrees is: off the ball movement, quality interplay, intelligent use of the ball (playing with your head up), and especially the most important thing in today's football: collective effort at pressing and retaining the ball.

Our CMs are having a tough task, and Modric with his natural movement, vision, workrate, ball retention and distribution is practically holding this team together. It takes a special kind of mindless troglodyte not to understand this.

I think our midfielders are fine

Here is my system which will never happen as Harry is old school.

Kaboul would be pretty much given a free defensive role with licence to go into the midfield when we are in possession.

I want to go the Croatian route, where the front 3 AM's react to the game a little more centrally.

It's based around Modric, where he can make us tick upfront, while our glut of CD's will get more of a game avoiding the Bassong wanting to leave etc.

Also, Kranj will get more games and he is used to this formation too.

Modric has always linked up brilliantly with Eduardo. I'm not sure how fit he is, but if he is fit, I would like to go that route. An Eduardo like player, someone who can play on his own up front with Modric giving VDV and Bale the attacking base they need.

This is something BC has said and something I'm very much in agreement with.

Our CMs are having a tough task, and Modric with his natural movement, vision, workrate, ball retention and distribution is practically holding this team together.

It makes me want to cry watching such an intelligent player like Modric play beside a numpty like Palacios, whose movement and distribution leaves so much to be desired. There have been games over the last month or so when I have felt that he has been on his own in that midfield.

Possession is important. I just think Modric can solve the scoring problem if we take the shackles off him.

I don't want to see Modders mixing it with the Catermoles week in week out.

I remember this now. And you know what? I'm warming to the idea. I can't bear this idea of playing with two wingers and a midfield that is so easily overrun.

Out of our current strikers, who would you play up top?

Palacios had a bad patch recently, but he is instrumental for our game. His lack of awareness and composure on the ball gets exposed because he is too often left by himself, with no quality options or help from our line-hugging, shot-happy, and generally unintelligent and irresponsible attackers, who are obviously not coached enough to do better.

Wilson is a great fighter for a team and a decent footballer.

I've been a fan of Gibbs for ages. Don't always agree with him but admire his ability to think for himself.

Ok but just don't move into a remote commune with him. I went under cover once. Arragned to meet Gibbs in a public place. I recorded some of the conversation on my phone. Here's some of the transcript.

"Bring the whole family. There's just one rule though; Everyones wife is Gibbs' wife but Gibbs' wife is no ones wife but Gibbs'. trust ol' gibbsy"

I shit you not.

None of them. I would rather put Lennon in place of VDV and play him up there.

I was never a fan of the mentality of our strikers. I like a certain type of player.

I even had Lennon playing the VDV role in the team thread against Newcastle. And he scored. GTOG.

I think our current strikers can only work in a 4 4 2 with a more aggressive mindset.

They don't have the intelligence to work in Crottenham type of system as a lone operator.

Since when is VDV a left wing back? Because that is the position Lennon was playing in from the moment Jenas was replaced by Crouch.

Mate that game near the 90 mins mark was chaos. I didn't even mention where he played in the game. I just think he has the capacity to score compared to our strike force.

I think his off the ball movement is horrific. I think this is probably because he is uncomfortable on the ball. I think he has a tendency to take the impetus out of our attacking play when he's in possession. I don't think it's right to lay the blame for this on others. Modric has to work with the same players and does just fine.

I don't think he offers us enough defensive cover either.
