Not only that, but Ribery isn't as great when limited to the left wing. There are times when the General plays him as a pure winger and he can be effective but he can also drift in and out of the games. When he is given a free role, he commands the midfield and is truly at his best.

You think we could sign him anyway

I am not sure he would come to us

I would bust out a boat load of cash and try and tempt Tranquillo Barnetta from Bayer 04. Has pace, can use both feet and while he plays the wings, can play in the center too. Get Rene Adler while we are there too.

Who's the General?

Remember when we were being heavily linked with him when he was at Marseille? We'd be laughing now if he'd come to us then.

I can see Ramos using Bale as an attacking left back. We know he likes his full backs to get forward and with Hutton and Bale on either side this could work really well. If we have two central midfielder capable of covering the full backs, then as the full backs bomb on the wingers/attacking midfielders will move inside slightly allowing the fullbacks room to get to the byline. Then we effectively have an attacking line of 6 across the field with 2 centre mids sweeping up behind.

The attacking midfielders are then likely to get more goals as they will often be in a more central position to have a cheeky poke. For this reason I would be inclined to go after a left sided attacking midfielder(Afellay, D'Alessandro, Kallstrom) as opposed to a left winger(Capel, Johnson). This way we have the threat of the full backs getting crosses in for Berba and co to nod in, but also have the option of cutting it back to a player who can actually shoot, as opposed to Lennon(just kidding, love the guy really).

D'Allesandro is constantly "at war" with every clubs he plays for; no gracias.
Afellay is a right-footer - I rather prefer a leftie as LMF.
Kallstrøm really isn't a wide player at all, but a CMF that happens to be a leftie (and he was on trial at Spurs a few years ago...)

I'd prefer the best player we can get, Pires weren't bad on the left, he was right footed.

Its better for a left back to be left footed, I dont think its as important for a left sided attacking midfielder. Steed and Joe Cole do well there, so does Cristiano Ronaldo when he plays there.

Any chance of him coming and doing a job on the left? Dont reckon chelsea would sell to US if he left anyway but its a thought....

I think Bale is the answer, but if not Ben Arfa, Capel, Kader Keita, Affelay all get my vote

If left back is required, well apart from Lahm im a bit clueless.

Cole clearly wouldn't come to us, he made a point of pointing to his CFC badge and looking toward the spurs fans when he scored against us. probably to quash any rumours of him ever coming here, especially following the antics of his uncle during the final.

He pointed to the Chelsea badge on his shirt after scoring but he was looking at the Chelsea fans whilst doing so.
