"Out of our price range"

This appears to be Harry's response to all the latest players being linked to us. He has stated that the following are out of reach. Ireland, Bellamy and Rau,l and I'm pretty sure it is a indirect dig at Levy and our rigid wage structure.

I'm still think Harry is sulking over not getting Joe Cole and is now insisting that everyone we are linked with, we can't afford them!

Well then you're both talking shit.

Next 'there's's nothing going on at the moment so I'll start a wanky, moaning thread' please.

These are the exact words that Harry used about Ireland.

“I like him, but he is expensive.
“Maybe he’ll be £11m or 12. We wouldn’t be in a position to spend that much on him if that’s what they’re wanting.”

It's a confusing statement that, but maybe we have to sell before we have to buy?

Yuk , horrible response this .

I think the speculation about Harry's many recent utterances over the transfer situation is entirely in order at this point . I'm truly baffled at this vicious abusive post . Lets be nice and assume its a bear with a sore head today rather than send a volley of well earned abuse back .

It has occurred to me before now that some of Harry's public pronouncements are for Levy's ears . But, as I've speculated before, there has been a drop in player values which are currently being maintained at old levels solely by City . Once their business is done and near the end of the window (last coupla hours) this is when reality will kick in .

Mebbe Levy is more aware of current player worth than Redknapp . Players are all so used to wages going up and up forever that anyone near the top of the heap is expecting 90 grand . Redknapp is an expert in the transfer business...the transfer business in a long sustained boom .Has he adapted to the new conditions ?
Speculation ,yes , but could this be behind his 'out of our range' ill tempered stuff..he loves doing deals and indeed may be frustrated at this point .

Maybe he is saying that he wouldn't want to spend that money, plus wages, on a player that may not command a first team place?

If we didn't have any money it would be the first time since Levy took over.

We ALWAYS have money to spend if we need it.

We are in a very different circumstance to what have been in in previous years. The problem we are having is that we only really need a few players but those players have to be top players in order to improve our team. Players of that calibre are extremely difficult to buy because they are expensive and highly sought after thus making it difficult for us to buy them.

I would rather us buy nobody than buy players that are not really going to make us better.

That's a dangerous game to play that, we could get caught short like we were 2 summers ago when we were hunting for a new striker.

Ideally we should have done our business at the end of last season, and before the world cup, so that we would have them all in for pre-season. Due to circumstances, prob other teams not wanting to sell, we were unable to do so.

Yes Sunny D . Thats not a game anyone wants to play , but it is one forced on clubs by the difference between the value they put on their players and the amount of cash out there to spend .

Its only when FORCED to revalue in the last crisis 5 hours that realistic deals can be struck . We have to wait imo for this overvalue dam to burst .

Please ignore - my girlfriends an idiot

You obviously haven't seen a lot of 'there's's always next year' posts then? He has an agenda.

A manager who was given 40m to spend in his first transfer window, months after his previous club were paid money (5m reportedly) for his services, then had another load of money to spend last summer, and was just given a new contract with a pay rise.....is according to some, taking a sly dig at the man who provided all that.....for being TIGHT!?

I know the world is due to end as we lost in friendly to Villareal, but let's get some perspective here.

Isn't he just saying that he doesn't think Ireland is worth the money that Citeh wants?

Or maybe Harry's just obfuscating?

I'm not remotely fazed by this.

I'm sorry for offending you dear with my 'vicious, abusive post'.

But if that's what you think vicious and abusive is......stay well clear of the match thread of we don't manage to win our first three games of the season, there will be some stuff posted in there by some that will make you shudder.

Its more than likely a case of managing the expectations of clubs we're sending bids to, if harry advertises the fact that we have x amount to spend or implies theres plenty available then clubs will bump the prices.

If all u ever hear from him is so and so is too expensive then its puts an element of doubt in the mind of a club faced with a perfectly acceptable bid over whether they try to ring a few more quid out of us.

You guys are all doing it now so clearly its working.

At least I hope thats the case.

There may be an element of trying to put pressure on Levy, I don't know.

What I do know is that Harry pretty much always does this.. I've lost count of the number of times he's said 'it looks like a player's going elsewhere', or 'it's going to be hard to a deal at the price they want, or words to that effect'' and then buying that player a few weeks later.

It's all part of the negotiating process. I read into his comments on Ireland - 'he's a decent player, I'd like to buy him but we're not desperate to buy him at the price you're likely to set, so we'll wait until you're a bit more deperate to sell, thank you very much'. That;'s certainly how Levy operates as well. It's just a game of chicken really.

I must admit I find it extremely frustrating but I can at least see the logic in it

If we had the squad we have now for next season, it would be fine, bar maybe a centre half. There is a risk to selling Keane, say, and not replacing him, but until we've sold him, I'm not worried.

But I also think that Gilzeanking is right. The market value of players has probably fallen, and no-one wants to admit it.

I've seen the matchthread . That is stuff in the heat of the moment . I thought your attack here was inappropriate , seems there is history here so I was right ,your unpleasantness was an inappropriate response to the initial post and was caused by some previous situation .

To a bystander in your battles it came over as an unpleasant attempt to stifle discussion .

Harry said we would spend on a "special player" and maybe that player has not been found yet.
