Second string side, who haven't played together before. Crap performance with a potentially predictable outcome.

No biggy.

We win the second leg at home with the crowd and a few more first teamers scattered in there.

I'm not going to overreact about this game. For me it's the first competitive full game for the youngsters and new players. I also think we should have at least 3 first teamers in every game we play as they are the leaders to help guide the youngsters and fringe players. That leaves 8 players getting game time
Like N’dombele, Aurier and Sissoko? No they were at home playing Fortnite while someone is trying to find a club stupid enough to take them off our hands.

You should never really judge a squad on making 11 changes. And tbh that was actually below a B team. Had Kane played on Sunday then Bergwijn is in that team so should Aurier Rodon Sissoko Ndombele. Put those 5 in last night and I’m sure we see a different result. Saying that we definitely need 2 or 3 more especially attacking options. Thought it was harsh to drag Nile at HT, Winks was far worse and for his confidence maybe make the change at 55 minutes. I only watched 1st half. Doherty and Winks made it unbearable viewing.

Must say that I really care. I think it was good to see alternative players in action.

IMO we should focus on Prem, FA, Carabao. In that order.

I suspect Rodon will play if he's fit next week and we'll have a clearer idea of whether or not certain players are leaving so we might see them play otherwise keep the same team.

Lo Celso is the closest to a regular. Winks, Davies and Doherty don't really get real consistent game time
They are not kids they are experienced PL players and Internationals and probably play in half our games during the season.

Really not that fussed. A 2nd string 11 lost to a team playing there cup final. Barring CCV and maybe John that would have been my starting line up. Yes they were all to a man pretty much shit. What’s new we have been awful in Europe since the champions league final. As we have seen as well a lot of our players have the wrong mentality when approaching this type of game. Instead of putting in a professional performance and getting the job done they just stroll about the pitch with half hearted effort and expect to win the game.

However I still maintain no first team starter should be considered for the Europa conference league with exception of gaining match fitness.

Next week id bring in Dier,Sissoko,Kane (if he is still with us) and maybe Tanganga as Doherty is just a woeful excuse of a footballer who is not up to playing at this level. I’d be disappointed if we see the likes of Son starting.

We definitley need next week the first XI to deal with that. Maybe put in Gil, Romero and Lo Celso for a little rotation but the young and fringe players have more of it if we reach the group stages.

Yeah exactly. If anything it was a good result to have in terms of the manager learning more about his players. Might make us pull our finger out on the transfer front.

One final point on this - Ndombele could have made a massive difference if he gave two f*cks about this club and had put any effort into getting fit and contributing. We were really missing that type of player

What a tw*t

Nuno treated it as pre-season game, sound like he wanted to see the fringe players in action before the window closed and he probably figured:
1) if we lose we’d be able to turn it around at home
2) the PL team is still gelling to his ideas and he wanted them to have training time together
3) the PL team didn’t need a 6 hour roundtrip before a tricky PL tie

We’re still very likely to progress and no PL team player has had their training/rest impacted.

if we want to be serious about the PL, and still want to rack up UEFA coefficient points and prize money in this thing: using a formula of U23s for away games (to save travel stress, tiredness, etc for our key players) and stronger sides for home games is probably a
sensible balance. Just means we have to get used to some dodgy results in places we can’t pronounce

Not sure ndombele has ever made a massive difference to any game he has played for us.

If he played last night I reckon nothing would have changed personally, he would have half heartedly jogged about adding nothing but a couple of step overs and feints (which people would be off their feet applauding). And we would have lost 1-0 and had no shots.

Still not fussed about last night's result, still not fussed about the competition, it's the Papa John's trophy of European football and I seriously think it will be detrimental to play our premier League side in it. The one benefit of not having European football is the luxury of a full week between league games and this competition isn't worth giving away that advantage.
Completely agree, some seemed so concerned with the coefficient if we sack it off, getting a bit ahead of themselves there in my opinion, let’s not worry too much about it until we actually qualify for the champs league which won’t happen if we go deep in this pointless comp.

Didn’t watch the game. Decided at the end of last season I’d watch no more games when winks is starting. No surprise really at the result given the amount of just bad players that were out there. Crazy thing is that we spent more on the players that played yesterday than we will get for Harry Kane.

When we've only got an Audi Cup to our name, I'll take the Papa John's trophy of European football.

No competition is below us when we've won naff all.
