They were immense in a key area of the pitch. They basically got Seedorf subbed at half time because they never gave him time or space on the ball. That basically shut off all supply to their forwards.

They were also excellent in possession, keeping the ball moving but never being too expansive. Watching them they both knew that at least one had to cover so they didnt make any silly runs forward without cover.

Some intense competition in that central midfield.

Only three players covered more I think, Flamini, Crouch and Gatusso.

Although to be far, about half the ground Flamini covered was either on his ass sliding two-footed into Corluka, or directly afterwards dashing about bigging up his 'tackle' to the Milan fans.

You can take the man out of the Gooners , but you cannot take the Gooner out of the man...

Sandro v Arsenal CC and Sandro vs AC Milan CL - Continents apart in Quality!!!

The boy has everything required to be a huge success for us, and he will continue improving as he beds into his new surroundings and gets to grips with demands of English football

What impressed me most about Palacios was not just his tenacity in closing the Milan players down, but he distributed the ball very well and seemed much more composed on the ball. Sandro was quietly excellent in winning countless headers and nipping in to take possession away from Milan whilst again distributing the ball very effectively which is evident in our goal.

The partnership worked because it needed to harrass the Milan midfield and deny space for the likes of Robinho, Ibrahimovic and later Pato to operate in. However, in bread and butter games where the opposition will be trying to stop us playing and defend in numbers, is this partnership neccessary?

What it suggests though is that not only do we have excellent options in terms of personnel but also the tactical flexbility needed in going to places like the San Siro and coming away with something.

Not for games at home or against opposition who get the ball down and play but arn't as good us when in possession.

Fixtures away, like Stoke, Everton, Bolton, Sunderland, Newcastle...and big games like Chelsea and United away..perhaps City too.

Maybe not all of those but there will be definitely occasions where that partnership could prove invaluable.

But its not one we are likely to use against West Brom at home for example

Both of them were magnificent last night.

Everyone I've talked to today has raved about Sarr and Skipp. All I could think about with those two last night was the way Palacios and Sandro played in the same fixture back in 2011. Weird how many similarities are picked up in this thread looking back at it - another parallel is that they only played on the night because so many players were out injured too.

Used to love Sandro, and Palacios. Such a shame injury ruined Sandro's career. Didn't he injure his knee Vs QPR?.
Will also never forgot Palacios debut (I think) Vs them lot down the road. Was a beast on that day.

Looking forward to these next few months to see what Skipp and Sarr can offer, with a proper run in the team.
