One is medicore and the other is really rather good, not the toughest choice to make but I'm sure Harry will do his best to get it wrong.

talks for parker are probably as a result of Diarra turning around and stating he is a madrid player, etc.

Let us be clear here...the question was the 'best fit' for us this season, not, simply, who is the better player.

I know that may sound silly, as the answer would appear obvious, however, what I am getting at is that I think Parker would fit in quicker, is already match fit, has far better leadership skills, far more Premiership experience and will cost less. He will also be happy to be at the Lane, whereas, in my opinion, Diarra would not be overly fussed either way, and in all honesty would prefer a move to a 'bigger' team.

Having said this, either or even both would make me very, very happy as they are massive upgrades on what we currently have.

In theory Diarra, but if he doesn't want to come then clearly Parker would be the decent alternative

Went with Scott Parker because... Well, I'm not entirely sure, but my gut said Parker.

I just think he'll fight for every ball, stick his head where it hurts and could be the "character" we need.

Diarra is a mercenary, and I know they all are but didn't he once say he could never play for Spurs?

That was Nasri.

Don't see why Diarra is a mercenary? He left Chelsea because he wanted to play, left Arsenal for the same reason and left Pompey because the biggest club in the world came calling. It's not the same as turning down Tottenham twice to sign for Newcastle and West Ham because they were offering to pad out his wallet just that little bit extra.

How many players does Wenger sign one window and flog the next?

No problem with players going for more money, but I have this nagging suspicion that if he isn't automatic first choice all the time Diarra will spit out his dummy.

Any sane person can see Diarra would be the better fit and also the far better player. He could be our very own Claude Makelele but no doubt Arry would rather go for the Bulldog spirit of Parker as he's a triffic player eh....

Diarra all day long, unsure where this Mercenary crap come from.Get it right he joined Chavski from Le Havre in '05 for £1m and was ear marked as a potential future Makelele. He actually won their young player of the year award in his 1st season,in his 2nd Chavski had major defensive injuries and ended up playing him at RB.He wanted to progress and play more in the 1st team, was no hassle at all actually had a great bond with the players there at the time and was only sold at the last moment of the august '07 window to save him walking out on a free transfer.

At the scum he was lead to believe he would be given the chance to shine that he was not given at Chavski. That of course was not the case as a certain Flamini was quite assertive in his role of partnering Fabregas. This of course blocked any hope of progressing and with a meagre 7 games at Le arse he was sold for a tidy profit to Pompey for £5.5m.He established himself fully in the league with his season there indeed winning a Cup with Harry at the helm and stated quite clearly the move " more than justified my decision ".

Real Madrid offered to almost quadruple the fee Pompey paid £18.8m (20m euros) and he was on his way to arguably the biggest club in football. The rest as they say is history. It could also be argued that a move down as it were to us,would allow Diarra just coming into his prime to flourish playing often and having already played at the biggest club in the world. He would be more than happy to do as he has actually wanted all his career, play a leading role at a club that gives him the base to build upon. It's a bonus that he has already worked under Harry and had alot of praise for him aswell when he left.

Wanna talk mercenary look no further than Mr " I'm a Spurs fan " Parker turned us down for Chavski,Toon and wetspam. If there is one lingering hope about the rumored move for him for me,it's that it has failed to materialise 3 times already and the man is not the usual deal Levy goes for. That of course is without the ongoing dispute with wetspam. The guy has being well out of form so far this season, maybe it's because he no longer want's to be there.Great sign of leadership right there eh? when spam need's him most to help get back the boy want's one last payday and all of sudden he get's his dream boyhood move? No thank's if ever I wanted a negative deal off ITK post it's now.

I voted for Diarra but I'd be happy if we got Parker instead. If Diarra forces us to break our wage ceiling or we can't live with the sell-on clauses then I'm happy.

2 things puzzle me about attitudes towards this deal though.

1. Diarra is not the next Makelele. He's just not a holding midfielder and I've never seen him successful play that role. He's obviously box-to-box and at Pompey was an attacking midfileder and very successful at it too. For that matter so is Parker. They can both defend and attack and would be ideal partners for Sandro, much as Modric is now. Why do people insist on calling him a DM?

2. Diarra is the better player and I hope we get him but why, as a footballer, are people so against Parker? The only reason you are pissed off with him is not because he "betrayed" us by chosing Chelsea, Toon and Wham but because he chose them over us - for money!! Matt Taylor and the ginger striker from reading were both spurs fans and both premier league players - do you suppose they felt betrayed because we never bought them? Tehy weren't the best available package for us and Parker went for the best available package for him; seems fair to me. And why have we been in for him everytime he's been available over his career? Because each manager we've had has seen that he's a bloody good player and now it's Harry's turn.

Parker is a seriously good player and would be real competition for all of our players, depending on the opposition, bar Modric in the midfield. He's got energy, a good range of passing, a good shot and apparently he can give a team talk that can propel even the shambles that was West Ham last season to a result. Last season he shone in the EPL, not just in Wham and that's why teams still want him; because he's a fine player. So can one of you 5-year-olds who thinks otherwise please tell me why you think we shouldn't buy him as an alternative to Diarra?

if we got both Parker and Diarra, would people grudgingly allow Modric to leave?
