Hahah! Well if Glenn Johnson's going from Pompey to Liverpool & Finnan's loan to us from Espanyol has fallen through then I guess this could be a goer.

Pity...I thought we'd got rid of the useless fuck. Can't we have Steed & TT instead?

2007 called it wants it's Tottenham team back.
I wonder how many more of our ex-players the press are going to link us with?
Wouldn't this be a serious no-no under rule 119?:)

Happy with Corluka and Gunter for now (Hutton as well when he is back) with others covering if realy needed.

Apparently the Man from Del Monte (well, the Man from Lyon) has said 'No!'. It's not surprising Chimbo's agent(s) are clutching at straws.

Actually if we were going to go for one of our old boys Sean Davis will be on a free in the summer, can do a job in a position where we are weak and wouldn't cost much.
Good squad player anyone?

Would prefer Steed back, he is the leagues top assister don't ya know!

However

Chimbo I would hesitantly accept the resigning of. He still has a few good years left, Hutton is both off form and injury prone, and Corluka would be freed up to play either at Centre Back or Midfield, both of which I believe he is more suited to. I know a lot of people were delighted to see Chimbonda leave and Spurs get good money, but he is quick, has ability on the ball, and in the right mood he works tremendously hard. I lost count of the amount of times he saved us with brilliant anticipation by sweeping up with last ditch tackles when our centre backs have been found wanting. I miss that.

Against that, you have to count up the goals his doziness cost us last season, starting with his losing Chopra in last season's opener.

Think it would be a travesty if this happened. Chris Gunter has hardly made a single mistake in the limited appearances he's had for us so far, and he was bought as cover for Hutton i.e. precisely the situation we find ourselves in now. If we don't give him any game time (especially when there's a temporary vacancy in the team that he was specifically bought to cover for) then how is he ever going to develop into more than just a young player with some untested potential? Utter madness not to use him in the circumstances we're in. Especially as Corluka is happy at right-back as well.

The only explanation for this (if true, which I highly doubt) is that Harry just doesn't rate Gunter full stop. If he's not prepared to give him a go now, then it's odds on he never will get a chance and in that case we might as well flog him to the first bidder right now. Which would totally baffle me in football terms, since - as I said - I don't think Gunter's really put a foot wrong since he's been with us.

If we re-sign him in ANY way and he is played regularly, we're going to get relegated, simple as that.

I'm pretty sure this is just agent nonsense. I thought his mercenary attitude was part of the reason the club wanted rid of him.

To be fair, I always thought Chimbonda was consistent and solid for us. The Mirror are reporting it's only a loan, which would provide short term cover across the whole of our back line. I don't see why not.

Yiddobrett is right. He would provide cover across all positions in the back four and is available to play in the UEFA cup. Let's be honest he's better than Finnan!

If he isn't good for Sunderland, why for us ?

this is a joke, he made good start with us and was poor most of his time with us, he isn't any better than Gunter & Bale.

while i don't know if this is true or not, but it looks like Harry like very big squad and another manager who would like to build his own team. Yeah, sign him Harry, there are a lot of work to do by the next manager !

I completely agree with this sentiment. He's a trouble maker and a mercenary. People are suffering from amnesia. Chimbonda started out good for us but declined dramatically throughout the whole of last season. A great disappointment as he was utterly brilliant for Wigan.

Malbranque I'd have back in the blink of an eye though and was very upset when he was allowed to leave. Sunderland will never sell him though - they're just desperate to get rid of Keane's dead wood.
