If only the players had the passion that some fans have for slagging off anything and everything that moves in the team, we would be champions of the universe.

This phone does my head in, I reckon any top drawer player with the correct mentality would not have stamina issues.

Maybe quality not passion.
I was going to create a thread similar to this about our lack of leadership on the pitch. Now dawson is a bit of a pointy shouty bloke but he's not good enough.

We couldn't string two passes together against city and we looked scared. Know alot of people will say well city are the best and thats why. I don't think so, these were simple passes sometimes not even in pressure and we passed it out of touch 3 or 4 yards away. I know these players are good enough to do a 5 yard pass but they looked scared.

Against City its almost as if we went in there knowing we were going to lose(in the first 30mins), I think the crowd got the team up in that game.

The thing is we need a leader on the pitch who is good enough for the first team and give the team a boot up the arse whilst leading by example.

Whether or not we will get one? is another matter

Bale and Modric both led by example and the same goes for VDV. Especially VDV and Bale during the latter years at spurs they were leading us through results and getting the team going

I just watched the film The Impossible with Naomi Watts and Ewan Mcgregor.

Our players really need to show as much passion and McGregors character did to find his family :(

Don't think passion is relevant incentives are. The old problem of how to motivate millionaires who have been doing the same thing for sometime.
Just think about it. If you were Lennon why would you bother. You have a niche attribute that will give you a good career. Unless you believe you can get more you won't bother. That's the primary reason why you need to move people on.

There aren't enough would be world beaters in this squad. For example you see Eriksen and you know this guy is playing to get to places. That's what I mean.

Dawson doesnt lack passion. He lacks ability. Sandro doesnt lack passion. He lacks the ability to play more than 3 games without getting injured. Same thing with Kaboul. Abebayor is finally showing passion. Walker doesnt lack passion. He lacks a brain. Same thing with Rose. But I agree we have no leader out there and the likes of Soldado, Lennon and Chadli look disinterested and deserve to be left out. What we wouldn't give for a Yaya Toure ! I think Paulinho could be that leader especially if he is backed up by Sandro or Capoue as enforcers.

I actually think Soldado has been showing lots of passion this season, you can literally see it in his face how much it hurts him each time he feels he isn't doing what he's supposed to. I actually feel very bad for him (even though he has been so frustrating to watch this season).

About Lennon, I really don't know if its lack of passion or he's simply too much of a pussy lately. Its really hilarious how he gets pissed at the other players when he's in a relatively good position and they don't give him the ball, just minutes after he has shown yet again he's deadly scared to take any of the chances he has to simply shoot at goal when he's in a premium position.

As a group, the OP is 100% correct. Each of the four times our rivals swept the floor with us this season came to us letting them do with us whatever they wanted to without showing any fight. We can blame AVB and Tim as much as we want, but fact is that our players keep dropping their interest level each time things are getting a bit too difficult. We, as a team, are not showing much self love lately, its fucking disgusting.

I thought Steffen Freund would have instilled that passion but instead it looks like he is our shooting coach

I'm gonna guess that's a typo, if not that's an impressive tangent for which I commend you.

It's insane saying this but our midfield does seem abit light at times, neither Dembele nor Paulinho goes 100% into tackles, they aren't tacklers. Maybe Sandro but he aint playing much. Capoue? He seems very slow and laboured but maybe he can do it? Scotty Parker is a good shout, we miss this kind of player.

What's more important - passion or ability?

Ideally both, obviously. Like Sandro, Ade (for now). These 2 need to take more responsibility in firing the rest of the team up rather than just putting loads of effort in themselves. The manager also needs to take responsibility but if he doesn't have the respect of the dressing room then what can he do? (Other than earn the respect of the dressing room, of course).
Players like Soldado, Dembele, Vertonghen etc. have all shown passion, determination, anger at points in matches, but then in other times they just stroll through matches with seemingly minimal commitment and desire. It's sooooo frustrating.

Maybe as the team gels and bonds they will grow to fight for each other more and the passion for winning will be there? Maybe they feel, like some fans, that this season is over and that next season, under a new manager, is when they need to start working again? That would be a very dangerous mindset to have.

We need some leaders to step forward and remind the squad that we have a brilliant group of players, and that top 4 is still possible, if they reallly want it.

Ideally, I would always want one of Sandro or Capoue to play every game, but unfortunately Sherwood doesn't see it that way.

Let's send them to the Somerset Levels for a team bonding exercise then.

Whenever the team is losing we lack passion, it's a bunch of arse. We won more matches from losing positions than ever before last season, so obviously this team has some fighters.

We are lacking clear direction and leadership. That comes from the top. We also have alot of players who are trying to adapt to the league. This was always going to be the case when you sign 7 players from outside the PL. Anyone who thought otherwise is foolish.

Probably much quicker now you've written about him. For what it's worth, he's not the most technically gifted player, but if some of our more talented footballers showed the commitment and drive he does each week, we'd be a damn sight better off.
I actually thought Dawson showed the most passion and desire yesterday. Maybe one of the reasons TS picked him over Vlad yesterday.
