I can't imagine there's much job satisfaction in being a personal shopper for a miser

If you're a Head of Recruitment what actually demonstrates your skill? Identifying Paul Pogba and saying "I think you should spunk £100m in that" and watch as nobody gives you any credit whatsoever for pointing out someone who is the best midfield prospect in world football or recommending a player on the cheap who then develops into a superstar? Or just fills a gap very effectively.

Hertyid on Coys

"He has 3 month notice apparently. He is leaving on good terms. There was frustration on both sides. DL expected more. These things happen. We lost Arnesen and all thought it was end of the world"

As I thought.

I don't see why continuity is that important for a glorified scout. Presumably they mine their contacts for anything that might impress their current employer, to diminishing returns, until they move on.

Thing is, most of us only take notice at what goes on at Spurs so it's difficult to compare it to other clubs but if you think of the top 5 or 6 clubs in the PL, only Arsenal have had complete stability in the last 10 years.

Point taken, although I do try to keep abreast with other clubs, especially in the premier league, I obviously don't follow them like I do Spurs.

I think, what we must all try to realise, is we are trying to build something that is bigger than any person. Something that can survive misfortune or people leaving. Sure, it's a loss, but the show must go on.

As Poch said himself, “Always, my decisions are for the present but for the future too,” said Pochettino. “I work for if one day I am not here to give the legacy, it’s always my way to work not only for the present and for the quick results. It’s always to create the future."

Maybe the guys work is good enough for Southampton but not of the standard expected by Tottenham Hotspur? He's taken the hint and jogged on - nothing sinister.

Short stay, didn't really add much value to the club in the end.

Got better gems from pleat, baldini and comolli in the end.

I guess it's always just gonna be a hit and miss job really.

It's frustrating that things never seem to run that smoothly at Spurs, especially where player recruitment/contract negotiations etc are concerned. I'm not anti-Levy per se; I can see the good he's done with us both financially and regarding our fantastic training facilities and the imminent stadium. Indeed, I can acknowledge that these things are the foundation upon which we can build success.

However, do I believe that the current owners and chairman will be the right people to capitalise on the added income in order that we have the stability and funds to compete with the very top clubs Unfortunately, in my gut, I feel the answer is almost certainly no.

I believe levy is building a legacy of sensible financial management and an infrastructure that, combined, will put us in a wonderful position. But the steps we take beyond this may be better served under different stewardship.

Levy is a great chairman the club consistently pushes to it's potential and above it's weight under his leadership obtaining 3 top 4 finishes in 6 years with the 6th or 7th highest wage bill and zero net spend while upgrading the clubs infrastructure and youth recruitment strategy beyond measure. Levy has to be a dick in nnegotiations, call people's bluff, risk missing out on players and drive hard deals. It's the only way we can stay competitive with the richer clubs because we can't go to someone and say "oh how much do you want for X? Ok that's fine do you want all of the £25m upfront?" Just be careful what you wish for the grass is very rarely greener on the other side and look how much turmoil and change Chelsea go through with their staff and managers under Abramovich despite the millions he invests. Other than Man City what better chairman are there? I couldn't conceive of anyone other than a billionaire willing to invest his own personal fortune in the club with no return doing a better job than our current run of league finishes with our clubs resources. In terms of being careful what you wish for, when Levys wife was I'll and there were rumours he was considering stepping down with Lewis Philip Green was rumoured to be interested....

What exactly did Levy expect of Mitchell if that's the case?!

I'm sure we'll hear soon enough if Mitchell fulfilled his remit well or not but the timing does seem extremely strange.

He probably kept coming up with players who either were in the right price range or in the right quality range, but to few players fitting both.

Timing isn't that strange. As someone who identifies players he will have done his job for this Summer months ago, with a list of players thoroughly scouted that Poch has approved which the financial guys are now working on. With the euro's over and the new season only just under way, other than checking out a few friendlies he's probably been twiddling his thumbs for a while

Not necessarily the end of the world, unless Poch's nose is put out of joint.

However, it's not good news whatever way you spin it. One of the good things of the last 18months is the apparent harmony behind the scenes at the club and the manager being afforded more control with people he trusts.

The last thing we need is another one of Levy's DOF brought in to upset the apple cart.

I really dont get the big deal. The only player who you could say he identified was wimmer? All others, including Dier, were known talents.

Both seem to have this amazing reputation but none of us can decisively say what for.

The more control poch has, the better.

I don't understand this kind of thinking.

If everyone can know the players and all that, what do we have scouts for?

What do the scouts at Man U do if everyone they get are known talents?

Didn't it occur to you that there's more in it than that?

There are a lot of "known talents". But finding the ones that fit us I'm sure is not that simple

Me neither. The headline stuff obviously but not the finer machinations.
