Juventus are going to have to contribute to the image rights fee if they want to sell him in this window.

Disagree, if we get him for around €70m, you'd have to think that Juventus have given some sort of discount on his fee due to the image rights, because he is probably a 90-100m player

I stand corrected on that front. As you say it doesn't mean anyone actually uses it anyway.

As to the other stuff, there is even an arbitration provision in that standard form. It doesn't imply anything other than the parties have agreed to use it.

Returning to the general question of image rights, the leading case in English law is Rihanna vs Arcadia (Top Shop). The Court of Appeal found that there was no general image right under English law

“A celebrity seeking to control the use of his or her image must therefore rely upon some other cause of action such as breach of contract, breach of confidence, infringement of copyright or, as in this case, passing off.”

What it all means is that there does not seem to be the same need for the club to buy Dybala’s image rights as there would be in a country such as Italy where image rights are recognised in law.

I’d be stunned if Spurs didn’t have seriously good lawyers (unlike me) working on this.

Fucking hell, I work for a huge law firm with a top sports practice. I wonder where it would rank on a 1-10 scale of unprofessionalism if I go to their floor tomorrow and refuse to leave until they say they'll give Levy a call.

Edit: Thanks @RJR1949 I'll print that out and take it with me

It's in the image rights company to get the deal done, they'll get a big payout and probably still get some image rights as well.

I think this will happen!

I think they've already done that with the fee.

That's fair but it's the final day, how badly do Juve need the money let's find out.

PSG need to sell Neymar first and Barca need to sell multiple players to raise those funds. No other club is interested.

Isn't the image right problem not due to future use of his likeness, but the lawsuit between him and that firm? So it's basically about taking on the risk of the lawsuit which could potentially be a liability of 40m. Hardly peanuts.

Some of the latest commentary is about how Juve really want this done. Between us and Juve, surely we can get the image rights issue resolved. Some of the other commentry is about how that’s the only outstanding issue, so wages must be agreed.
Now Lo Celso and Sessegnon are sounding like done, the clubs have all day tomorrow to resolve this.

That’s the thing, it can’t be.

Lots of the reports are from Miguel Delaney though, which is a worry. He’s hardly known for his accuracy.

He seems to have a source on this (from Dybala's side), going back to the initial bid and the Lukaku potential swap.

Sky playing down the Dybala move which to me shows it’s not happening. As if there was a chance of us signing him still they would be hyping it up like anything
