No pain no gain for Spurs star Pavlyuchenko as striker puts off surgery

Roman Pavlyuchenko will play through the pain barrier to make his mark at Tottenham.

The Russia striker has struggled to hold down a starting role since arriving at White Hart Lane from Spartak Moscow last summer.

The 27-year-old has spent the last three games on the bench and is suffering from a groin injury that requires surgery.

But Pavlyuchenko will put off going under the knife in a bid to impress Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, according to Tvoi Den newspaper in Moscow.

Hm, so he's been injured - I assume it's from the week of the CCF since he picked up a knock then but still played the final, which makes sense since he looked unusually poor in the final and hasn't really played since it. Does this mean that he might be featuring in our last few games though? I'd like to see him but that just annoys me more that Hiddink played him twice in one week, if he has an injury he shouldn't aggravate it, and they had Pogrebnyak available too :bang:.

assuming he is injured at least that might explain his relatively poor form and inability to get around the pitch and hassle defenders etc

I guess he can have plenty of rest when defoe comes back

in the meantime maybe we should use campbell as back up to Bent - at least he'll run around etc

of course maybe it's only a slight injury and pav can play well on sat - but he hasn't convinced lately

Im really impressed by Pavs attitude towards being on the bench recently. Personally I would see him start week in week out with keano/defoe as he is such a great finisher.

I'm yet to be convinced that Pavlyuchenko is a great finisher, especially with his performance in the Carling Cup Final still fairly fresh in my mind. I'm happy to give him more time to assert himself though.

It would explained why he was dropped immediately after a game in which he scored.

I like Pav and want him to be a success with us, but I have an inkling that both he and Bent will be moved on this summer and replaced with one big number 9. That'll leave us with 3 top strikers competing for 2 spots, which is healthy and means that by hook or by crook they'll all play all games anyway, and then we have other players who can go into that role behind 1 striker if need be like Modric, Taarabt, Lennon, Giovani, and even Jenas (who I've often wondered how he'd cope if given that Gerrard at Liverpool role as basically a second forward).

I really like Pav, his attitude has been great, I think he is a great striker, but what people keep forgetting is the poor lamb hasn't had a rest in 3 years...Russian Season -> Euro's -> Russian Season -> EPL Season

Now, I say that with a slight pinch of salt, as they are athletes and it's not like they do 10 hour days yadda yadda, but in the world of Football it's going to affect the bloke compared to a guy that has had full off seasons while he has played hard the whole time.

When I see him on the pitch, he might not put 100% in 100% of the time, and personally I feel a player should, I think I do when I play, why can't the guys that actually get paid to do it, do it...but part of me remembers Berbatov (I'm not comparing the two, well I am, but I'm not....) and no one cared if he put in 70% if he scored....when he put in 100% I seem to remember him getting 4 in one game! (Wigan?)

So to conclude and sum up my fellow yids...give Pav some time! Maybe he should go for the surgery as then he is forced to rest, give him the rest of this season out, which is about 6-8 weeks I think? Then he has a full off season to really relax, then come back in pre-season and that tournament thingy and be the striker that I know he can be...

Pav FTW
