I feel very sorry for Portsmouth, great little south coast club, great support and they're almost gone.

Then I read this on the BBC:

¨In addition the Fratton Park team are being sued by former defender Sol Campbell for £1.7m for unpaid image rights¨.

And I feel sick. Sick of such mercenary greed. How people like Sol can live with such a conscience is beyond me. he could probably buy the club if he wanted to. But nope, money, money, money. And yet when you go six foot under, you take none of it with you.

Sol, you are one sick man.

I know that Sol is due to the money and this was probably part of big part of sigining him.

But this an opportunity for Sol to be finally liked by someone. Spurs hate him, Notts county fans hate him, arsenal fans don't give a monkeys and now portsmouth fans will hate him too. Part of football is the legacy you leave behind. In 5 years time Sol will not held in affection by anyone at any club, he's every played for.

A sentiment already voiced by many.

But voiced in football-chat where Sad Cudball belongs nowadays...it's stacky (not the first time the phrase has been applied to that 'man')

Im not quite sure how this is Sol's problem? He signed a contract with them and they broke the terms of the contract.

Has anybody heard the rumour about what happens on liquidation of league clubs? I am hearing that all the points gained by teams against Pompey this season will be struck off the league table should they fail in their bid to stave off the HMRC or administration.

Campbell will be seen as even more of a **** if he contributes to any chance of that happening.

I would guess that it is something to do with the fact that he is hardly short of a bob or two, and when compared to David James, who specifically made a generous jesture depriving himsself of earnings so as not to be detrimental to the club's finanacial position, it lokks positively spiteful.

Also, as someone else said above, he has now managed to piss-off the fans of every club he has played for - that is one sad, sorry record.

I do understand that but James is a current player and Sol isnt. They owe Sol money and hes entitled to it.

Just because Pompey's chairman and board were idiots doesnt mean ex players should not get their money and Pompey should break the terms of contracts they drew up.

But, like I said, it isn't exactly like he is short of a bob or two - I'm sure he could have made a gesture, even if it was just to offer them longer to come up with the dough:shrug:

I guess so...but how longs he been waiting? Surely the 1.7million isnt just 1 seasons worth of image rights? It must be going back a while.

i hate him as much as anyone else but without knowing the full history its hard to criticise him too much. we dont know how long hes been chasing this money or if like other pompey creditors how many broken promises from pompey there have been. yea he wont be exactly broke but hes owed the cash and its a big sum of money for anyone so i would be chasing it down as well.
as i said i do hate the man i really do but its too easy to slate him on this when it could well be his last resort so i wouldnt go slating him without knowing more about it

yes AFAIAA any points gained against Pompey would be removed, which is bad news for us as Pompey beat the bin dippers and we would have 6 points removed.
However that is only if they go into liquidation, which is unlikely due to the future money which will be due to them (TV money, premiership finishing place money & parachute payments should they be relegated)

They owe him the money. He's entitled to it. Whether he needs it or not is neither here nor there. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Campbell, but this isn't one of them. Wind it in.

Which is why he seemed like a cirling vulture. I would see it like this:

Choice 1: I am a very wealthy 'man'. I don't need the money. By my standards it is not a huge amont, and I am not going to suffer financially for it. This may be an opportunity to make a good gesture (and, at least, give them more time);

Choice 2: It is my money. I want it. I want it now. I don't care that it cold be another nail i the coffin of this team, of their fans who paid my wages, and of this country's football culture which has nurtured me and made me a very wealthy 'man'. I just want it.

He chose choice 2.
