Urgh… as perr ushuual we’ve descended into endless puns. I suppose given our lack of CB signings it isn’t really shuurprising.

He was basically next in line after de ligt but IIRC he got an injury or two and had a so so season at Ajax, lost his place and never really got it back to Alvarez and Timber.

Sold on the cheap to Torino and now looks like he's getting some buzz again after getting a run of matches at Torino. Could be a shrewd signing as seems in the similar mould to Tosin and a few years younger. Although I wonder if we'll look for someone HG.

Looks a bit of cross between John Terry for physicality and penchant for putting his body on the line and John Stones venturing ably into midfield.

Was seemingly going to Palace so might be moot but we do seem to have a ‘type’ for what defender we are after.
Good comparison there and hope that he hits the heights of Terry apart from the drug dealing and shop lifting parents :cautious:

Both Liverpool and palace have a good eye for a centre back so based on that I’m happy with the link but I think it’s a pretty weak one.

Seems like a Schuur thing 🤣

I don’t know much about him other than he was rated as the next big thing before his move to Ajax and was thought of as de ligts replacement long term but it didn’t work out.

seems to have regained his confidence at Torino.

Apparently not very quick, but is proactive, aggressive, can dribble well and has reasonable anticipation. This report from his time at Ajax, in late 2020...

"Schuurs is the right central defender in this situation and is capable of bringing it out from the back, driving into the space. He never loses the ball in these situations and when he does get in trouble he can draw a foul. The youngster reads the game very well both on and off the ball and is dominant when he dribbles with it out from the back. Schuurs is not the quickest defender that Ajax have, but it can’t be said that he is slow and he showing confidence when dribbling it out from the back, making big and powerful steps."

"He is a mobile defender and his agility, acceleration and pace have improved over time. Schuurs could increase his upper body strength but should not do much about the strength in his leg as this could affect his agility and acceleration which already are not the best comparing it to his other abilities."

Liverpool scout reports say that despite being tall he is not that dominant in the air...

"...there is a significant worry over his aerial duels. A Liverpool centre back should have a 65% success rate minimum, with Schuurs currently sitting at 51.9% in the league. Whilst being a decent all-round player, it’s hard to see where the huge attraction would be for Klopp and Lijnders."

Watched some clips last night , very aggressive, loves a sliding tackle.

If we wanted competition/back up for Romero from the tiny tiny sample I saw he would be perfect.
