That is a great and very positive post.

Too many kneejerk reactions on here after yesterdays result, with many people failing to consider the facts and instead focus on only the negative.

overall, we've done well

i predicted 6th for us this season, but thought that would be at the very top of our range because i expected all the big 4+ to finish above us

so we'd need to hold off villa and everton plus any surprise packages - not easy to say the least

so if we do get 6th i'll be massively pleased

probably ATM the season is looking more like 7th than 6th but that'd be fine

what i really wanted was a trophy (given I don't see us making top 4) and actually the cup draw yesterday was more disappointing than losing to Arsenal (and that was very dissapointing)

Woody would have been massacred if he had played last night. He doesnt have the pace to play against a fast team like Arsenal.

nonsense, woodgate when fit is one of the best defenders in europe, he would have made us stronger not matter who we are playing

There is a long way to go yet, and we should pick-up a few points in our next 8 games, but they include both Villa and Everton away.
Come March and April when the Big 4, and Everton could still be in Europe will tell. Liverpool at this stage look like the team that could be in trouble, so lets hope they stay in the C/L !!!!!

Agreed. It's the games against the non-Sky4 that really count.
And, interestingly, we only play one of those Sky4 (the Scousers) in our next 22 league games.
That's right 21 out of our next 22 EPL games are against non-Sky4 teams.
It really is in our hands, guys.

Meh, I'm still fucked off we haven't beaten Ar5ena1 in the league in a decade

Sorry, this is a positive thread isn't it. Erm, least the other results went our way.

We haven't played villa, everton, city or sunderland yet. Having failed miserably against the top 3, we've got to perform in these games otherwise it'll be mid table again.

Perspective, pershcmecktive! Do you not understand that this is the perfect opportunity to jump down with both feet on everything that is Tottenham Hotspur Football Club? Why waste to opportunity to have a good old bitch now, Spurs could really fuck things up and go on a good run and we then wouldn't be able to cry like little girls with a dropped ice-cream, although obviously we could still give it a damn good go! (5-0? We scored too many goals! ) I see your perspective and raise you a good old fashioned whingefest.

Apologies for not entering into the spirit of this sooner. I'm actually gutted about yesterday.

And I won't really be entering into this thread again as the internet is just chockablock full of annoying people who you can't walk away from if you were to meet in real life. So this is me, walking away from the dullness of continued whinging. There's better things I could do with my time :adios:

You are going to have to elaborate on that one.

However, there are a lot more "strong" teams this year who will be taking points off each other and I think that there will be less skewing of the points distribution (apart from teams like Hull, portsmouth, Wolves, etc)

I have been saying this since the start of the season, and, as of so far, it is proving correct.
Our best chance of finsihing anywhere near the Champs League is if the top of the division remainsbunched up, so that teams get jittery. And it should be remembered that Chelsea have lost two games already, and they are way out in front at the moment.
Anyway, I would rather lose every single game to the 'Big 4' (or 'Sky 4', if you prefer), and finsih in fourth, than gain 24 points fro them adn get relegated. United had a poor record against the other 'Big 4' teams lst since, and won the league - nuff said:shrug:

Good post.

how can drawing man united (who are not going to be playing their full first team) away in the carling cup for the future be more disappointing than getting destroyed by our local rivals, being made to look second rate for most of the match, having completely negative "containment" tactics, resorting to the long-ball (quite unsuccessfully), discovering that our famed "squad depth" isnt that deep, conceding two extremely poor goals to concede because of stupid football that i would feel embarassed about, continuing a run that has spaned since george graham of not beating arsenal in the league and LOSING 3-0 TO ARSENAL???

what a dumb comment.

I think you know what he's saying. The CC is a genuine chance for us to win silverware and now we have a tough away draw.

If I'm sat at Wembley watching us lift the CC later this season I'm not going to be thinking about losing 3-0 to the Arse, as upsetting and depressing as it was. Especially as we might just have beaten them in the final!

We have to forget about yesterday asap, not read too much into it and go and beat Sunderland on saturday and get our season back on track.

A top 6 finish this season would be a great achievement. Lets remember where we were this time a year ago.

We have some great players at this club, and i tell you something, if Bentley puts in the effort he did yeterday he will still come good, his positioning was good, his work rate was up and he was always looking to do positive things.

The problem with Spurs is our mentailty, as someone has already written we have to start getting the big game mentaility when we play the sky4, forget the scousers eveyone is beating them and i think 4th place is up for grabs this year, we have to ensurwe we win our home games against the Blackburns and Wigans of this world, losing at home to Stoke really pissed me of last week, just because of the chances we had to put the game away.

Our forwards have to be more consistent, Robbie hit four the other week and has not scored in the prem since, overall i thnk with a fit squad we can turn anyone over, its just having the right stength of mind and not listening to glory supporters and the biased media

everyone is talking about our mentality being weak. Worrying and moaning about a draw to Man U away in the one competition they dont really care about highlights this.

exactly shelfside :) - it's not difficult to understand

for me we've lost the best chance of silverware we're going to have this season by a cruel gut-wrenching draw

I expected us to lose at arsenal - but we had a 50% chance of a home draw in the Carling - and i'd have been confident of beating anyone (except perhaps chelsea) at the Lane - we also would have had a great chance against anyone bar chelsea and man u away

therefore for me the almost inevitable loss of the carling cup which i think is the outcome of Saturday's draw, is more disappointing than losing to arsenal - which i expected (tho the loss of bassong is a big, big blow and indeed actually that's probably more disappointing than losing to arsenal too for me)

of course if we pull off one of our greatest-ever victories of the prem era and win for the first time ever at OT in that period (AFAIK) then everything will change utterly

but we won't

as I've posted elsewhere, Utd could put up 11 shirts on a washing line and we'd probably fold under the pressure of dealing with them at Old Trafford

we have simply forgotten how to win there

so utd don't care about a competition they've won twice, in what, the last 5 years mmmmmm

well I wish Fergie had told his players about not caring before they ran out at wembley - cos is seem to remember them beating us and celebrating the fact quite happily

i also remember players like ferdinand, scholes, evra, o'shea and ronaldo taking the pitch - some 'couldn't care less' attitude that was
