Well, you can compare our position to what it was last year, to how we did in the corresponding features, or to how our ostensible closest rivals are doing at the moment, all are valid I suppose.

Fact is that the way we are placed it's still feasible to finish in or close to the top 4, if we play how we can. Would help to have most of our first choice players, particularly the creative ones as I don't want to see anymore of this long ball stuff.

Losing away to Arse is not really a bad result for any team, it's the way it happened made us look a bit like chumps.

There is no utter sky4 dominance this year, at least not yet and certainly 'pool look very beatable. I'm actually most concerned about ManC. It they succeed to get to the CL this year, it will confirm in the heads of all those mercs out there dying to sign for them that it's because of their desire to "play for a big team" and "win things", rather than base greed. And then it's easy to see ManC cement their place in a new Sky4, with us even further outside...

i would accept Man Utd, Chelsea & Arsenal poor defeats if we managed 3 points against Stoke, it would be 22 pts, 5 points behind the leader, and 3 points above 5th or 6th place Man City & Villa but both have one game in hand. That's could give us advantage, but with current form are behind them, and even just 1 point above Liverpool who had very worst start, so we should only blame ourselves for it, we missed it and the only now is to win the next 4-5 games ( more important vs Sunderland, Villa & Everton ), it is possible but difficult with Modric out, now we need to react now before finding ourselves 7th and trying to break the top six instead of the top four.
I know it might be more difficult, but you seem to suggest that we are depending on Modric for results ala Gerrard and Liverpool. I would like to think that we are a more balanced team than that.

I read an Alex Ferguson article a few weks ago in which he stated that Man Utd target
to win as many games as possible against the lower 16 teams and the results against Liv/Chel/Arse are a bonus.

not sure to be honest, if you looked at our performances vs Liverpool, Hull & West Ham, we were good.

even vs Birmingham, despite the frustration in 1st half, we dominated the whole first half and only if Defoe took his early one-on-one chance, we could get better result, the 2nd half despite Crouch made the difference quickly, we struggled to keep the ball, Brimingham hit us in counter and Benitez easily could score a winner.

vs Man Utd ( Although Redknapp admitted he made mistake about Keane ) but we were lost during the whole match, even in 2nd half against ten men, we failed to create anything.

vs Chelsea you know the story, Also both of Bolton & Portsmouth felt they should get more than what they've got, yes Crouch missed golden chance vs Bolton but Bolton were the better side, vs Potsmouth it is clear that we took our chances and Dindane missed two golden chance which should chance the result.

As for Stoke game, despite we were the better side during the whole match, any one watched the game saw that we played with a bit slaw tempo, our attackers failed to find space apart from one decent effort by Kranjicar which hit the post, most of chances were in long crosses and headers, which is different style than our best football, play the ball down and create something from short passes or low crosses, I'm talking our best games since Harry took over likes Arsenal (H) D0-0, Villa (A) W2-1, Chelsea (H) W1-0, Liverpool (H) W2-1, Hull (A) W5-1, West Ham (A) W2-1.

vs Arsenal, i can understand that we missed Lennon & Defoe as well.

so that's why i think Redknapp get it right with Keane-Defoe partnership and that's why he picks Keane instead of Crouch. It isn't just about leadership, Harry already stated that Barcelona is the best team in the world but still small team. I feel Harry already admitted Man Utd were better side with Rooney-Tevez partnership than when they've signed Berbatov.

so Luka is World Class and irreplaceable, I think he is very key to get the best of Defoe, Keane & Lennon. we should accept the fact we are a bit imbalanced as the players who could be able to reduce the size of his absence like Bale, & Giovani are too injury prone & Harry didn't try to build their confidence & form when they are fit. While Bentley don't suit us & Kranjicar is good but not quick as Modric, Bale & Giovani IMO.

Hi SS18 :) - fair play to your optimism, but history tells me otherwise
we probably won't put out our full 'first XI' - we have the trip to OT sandwiched between trips to villa and everton

it's simply a killer, killer draw

if people want to understand my stance on this a little more - i don't think we'll make top 4 so trophies are more important to me than any one particular lge defeat especially an expected one like at Arsenal (the stoke defeat galled me far more than sat too)
Yep, I am with you on this one..........for exact same reasons as you state

By the way, when is the last time we beat (any team they put out) at Old Trafford:shrug: We will probably loose this and with it our best chance of silverware this year.............yes we should be very disappointed and pissed off with this draw.:bang: I am.

I am fed up with perspective. No matter where we are in the league or what Harry has done since he arrived, that performance was a complete embarrassment. Losing is one thing. To go there and play so cowardly, to be so intimidated by them, to be scared to even try and win and to look like we wanted to give up and go home as soon as the first goal went in.
Lets show some fight whatever the odds and some pride in being Tottenham.

the stoke result is the poor one not saturday. that goon side are excellent and it was on thier patch. I'm not worried especially as for 2 weeks in a row now our real rivals (city, villa and everton) have failed to make an impact. It's not nice to lose but i'd rather it be when all around us have bad weeks too.

Also we drew with arseanl twice last year... but that got us 2 pts. Much better to lose 1 and win 1 to get 3pts... COYS

agreed jimmy. massive harry fan, but we keeled over and died on saturday

We didn't just roll over, we had nothing to take us forward. Keane and Crouch offered nothing but a hopeful long ball, all we could do was pass it across the midfield. They weren't scared to go and try and win, we had no way of doing it.

The stoke game we had enough chances to win 3 times over and infact 9 times out of 10 we would have done, it was just one of those games, a freak result really.

But against Arsenal it got embarrassing and its the manner in which we sank to defeat and not the fact we lost the game, we were more than likely to lose away to them, even at full strength. It was also the way in which we gave away three pathetic goals, defending i would find below that of sunday morning football. Its the north London derby, biggest game of the season for every fan and player connected to that club, yet i didnt see a lot of fuck from many, if any of the spurs players. Another i would like to see and have yet to do so from a Tottenham player. When their second goal went in, atleast one of our players should have been fucking livid(i know i would have been and infact i did get a lil excited sat in me front room) and dished out some verbal bollockings, we have no one doing that kind of thing, they all have their fucking heads down cos no one wants to take any responsibility. I don't give a toss what Man City or Villa do, especially when we turn out such pathetic performances.

thats quality, didn't realise the others hadn't played as many of the top4 as we have, think if we'd just beaten Stoke we'd be over the fucking moon at how well we are doing right now, other than that slight blip and a fairly poor showing vs the Arse,we are doing brilliantly and when Lennon,Defoe and Modders +Woodgate etc come back we'll be fireing on all cilinders, hopefully we can show it against all the teams outside the sky4 I believe we are good enough to do so, and if we do we'll stay right up there challenging.

People just dont get it.

Every year the same shite about how "we've been unlucky with injuries" or "we can never field our strongest 11".

Its bullshit! One of the major differences between the top teams is strength in depth. Every team gets injuries, deal with it.

Im sick of this bullsh1t rationalising everytime we get an injury or start slipping down the league.

"3 of our centre bakcs have been injured"...yeah but two of them are King and Woodgate ffs! Its not chance! I was harping on all summer about how we were going to be left in the lurch at some stage....Im not saying that boasting, it was just common sense ffs!

If I hear somebody blame underperformance on injured CB's again Im going to scream...with Woody and King you have to accept it, you lose the right to use it as an excuse.

But it's true. If it wasn't for the strength in depth we do have we wouldn't be sitting 5th right now. Give any team in the Premiership major injuries to the 4 centre backs in their squads and see how they get on. We've coped quite well in my opinion.

Ok, think, have you ever found yourself saying anything similiar before?

Whats that you say? Last season? and the season before that? and the season before that?

Of course its true but you either address it or stop whining about it. Im sick of hearing the excuse every season...there comes a time when you have to stop blaming faith or chance or luck or whatever other made up bullsh1t concept you can come up with on our shortcomings.

How many centre backs do you expect us to buy? Do we offload King and Woodgate due to their injuries in a gamble that we could replace them with players that are of equal ability and are unlikely to get injured? Who are these players, what do they cost? Get them in I say.

We cant get them.

We are not a CL side.

There is the problem. We lack the ability to attract players of the calibre of Woody and King so we have to rely on two massively injury prone players.

Thats why we're worse than Arse/Chelsea/United not because god doesnt like us or somebody put a vodoo hex on us.

So would I...........but we are not........but I would say we are not just depending on Modric to be fair, but definitely Lennon, Modric and Defoe, with one or two of them out (let alone 3) we are very average in my estimation!

So we sit in silence? It goes against the grain of a hard done by Yid. Pop in a couple of ear plugs, around here when it's good, it's fan-fucking-tastic, when it's bad, it's bleating awful

That makes no sense, we attracted Woody when we were a worse team. Fact.

Why?

Why didnt Woody stay at Madrid? Or go to United or Arsenal?

Because he's a fvcking injury waiting to happen. Sorry to put it bluntly but he is. Thats the only reason he is at Spurs, lets not cod ourselves.

Thats the point Im trying to make. At the level we are at we just cant attract top CB's in their prime who will perform week in week out....thats why we need to focus on players like Bassong and hope they mature into quality players.
