Just home from work, haven't seen anything on ticker or from skimming this thread.. take it that Hincapie isn't happening?
He wanted 200k and a big sign onI'm just a little shocked we seemingly had no interest in Ndicka. Would have been surprised if Eintracht wouldn't have sold him for 15mil.
Yes I know it's a stretch..... But. What if Rodon back from loan really impresses in training? Could solve one of our CB problems and save us a big wedge of money???
You are right it isn't a crisis, it's just "meh".
You are also right in what you say regarding not being able to get our top CB targets then we shouldn't just buy anyone. The thing is we couldn't get them in the last window, or the window before that either. At what point do you say to yourself, why not? Why do we go numerous windows unable to get our priority targets?
These players were players we wanted in the Summer, how have we got to deadline day 6 months on before we know we couldn't get them again, and again, and again?
Nah, that's just bluster. Conte has more than proved he's willing to compromise on his targets as long as the alternatives are of the right fit and quality. If they are the ones Conte keeps wanting us to go for, we will keep going for them I guess! Not the best situation, but unless the player becomes available for a price the club will be willing/able to pay or Conte changes targets, I can keep seeing us going round and round.

Why must there be? Again it's just looking for excuses and reasons as to why, rather than addressing the issue. He has, and we have players in that show that. But there must be players he says we'll if you get me the back up option I still want the main player in x position.
Perhaps. Just not that bothered about him and think there’s better options in the summer still.Bringing this here so as not to clog up the itk thread.
The news of the price being 80m came out before we made our supposed bid and I don't believe it at all, no way would they get (or demand) that much for him.
Plus, if that was the price, we wouldn't have spent 2 days wasting our time on him.
I think he was gettable and at a reasonable price, the problem was that we moved too late and Lever couldn't get a replacement in time.
They've failed on two attempts over the last two days iirc.
Yeah, but he also would cost 40mil if he had 3 years left on his deal.He wanted 200k and a big sign on

Did I miss something? Rodon back from loan?
if the opportunity was there to do something we would take it.
And in the Summer it'll be "yeah well in January".Perhaps. Just not that bothered about him and think there’s better options in the summer still.
Its not difficult if you are prepared di pay it and go in early. It's always more difficult to get good players in Jan, you know this. I personally don't believe the club really thought they could obtain one of their top targets in Jan, be that Gvardial, Bastoni, Hincapie, or whoever else we've looked at. It was more if the opportunity was there to do something we would take it. I think the reason we signed Lenglet on loan for a season was with the aim or recruiting the centre back target(s) in the summer.
If we fail to sign one of these CB targets in the summer then maybe i'll join you with my pitchfork but I'm happy to see how it plays out until then.
I get the feeling (and this isn't a question, it's just my impression) that we often - not always - look for opportunities rather than go all out for our top targets. I understand thr benefit in being shrewd in the market, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we're waiting for contracts to run down (or even out) for some of our targets. You are right it isn't a crisis, it's just "meh".
