I realise there is a great deal of support for Huddlestone but I fail to see it's worthiness, except on a rare occasion. I have seen many games where he has made mistake after mistake + failed to track back or close down quickly enough etc. In these games many people have given him high marks just because he makes the occasional good long pass- He ain't no Glen Hoddle & as far as I am concerned he is not good enough for us.
We shouldn't sell any one of the 1st team players who got us 4th place. Huddlestone was one of our regular performers in what was our most successful Premier League season. It's a ridiculous suggestion, sorry.

You are mad, i can't believe you can't see how good he is. Huddlestone was one of our most improved players last season, he is getting better and better and getting mistakes out of his game. He was brilliant last season and i think one of our underated players of last seasons, at home to Arsenal and Chelsea he superb alongside Modric.

and as for Keane he is still a tremendous player in the right position- he gives his all, can still score many goals and think we would be foolish to sell him or loan him again unless we get 8M+. He is certainly not the right person to lead the line as he has an awful tendency to be offside. In addition he is apparently admired & wanted by Martin O'neill whose judgement some of you may not belittle. Top squad player - do not sell unless we can get much better.

Nethercott, Doherty, Scott...

Kerslake, Austin, Atouba...

Anyway, pre-season friendlies and tours are all about building up match fitness, working on tactics and trying out the youth/reserve players. I'm quite happy we managed to ruin Henry's first game for his new club.

I'm fairly sure we won't be seeing 4 RB's across the defence much during the season.

There is no bigger crime on SC than pointing out that a favourite emperor is naked and not in fact wearing a beautifully tailored invisible Savile Row suit.

You must have watched a different Arsenal game to me then. He was absolutely terrible in that game. Like a turtle in windsock. Like a stewed prune in a moulinex hairdryer.

I haven't seen the game yet, but i'm more interested in the fitness levels of the lads than the performance ratings. Especially Corluka and Kranjcar who finished the season injured. They need a bit more time to get sharp again.

Bingo!

This is why I didn't stay up until 1.30am on a school night to watch men working out. Pre-season is about fitness first and foremost and nothing much else. It's about getting used to playing football again and being fit. It's nice to be back playing again but it is all preparation for when it starts in a month.

Is Keane the kind of character who will be happy being a squad player though? He's always wanted to be the main man, always cutting a a somewhat forlorn figure when not playing.

Martin O'Neil may be a good manager, but his record in the transfer market at Villa is patchy at best, so him wanting Keane is not necessarily and indication we should be keeping him

I don't agree with your estimation of THudd...but that's some funny imagery:grin:

not sure of the merits of playing players who either A; want out or B; we want out...

ok maybe we have not got the squad to leave these players out (at least until the WC players return) but with half your team disinterested and the other half right backs  it's not gonna make for a pretty game.

i know it's still early but touch on most players looked abysmal (even Modric had some heavy touches Eek)

found myself getting thoroughly frustrated during this game. no interplay and movement, just a long pass or someone carrying the ball up the wing.

also in two appearances now Townsend has done nothing to impress me, too reliant on pace with no guile or subtlty to his dribbling, and soooo one footed, hopefully he can go on loan to a better footballing side to continue his learning.
would like to see a bigger role for Ryan Mason (wasn't he supposed to be in the U19 squad?) in one of the next 2 games. and would also like to see the team limited to say, 2 right backs in the next game...

The Good - Bale was superb both in attack and defence. MOM in both matches in the States. Cudicini did well and looks fully recovered. Walker had a decent match playing in an unfamiliar position. Modric showed glimpses of his quality and nice to see him putting tackles in.

The Bad - Hutton was truly abysmal. I know it's pre-season but if he'd spent 90 minutes in Coxsackie Correctional Facility he'd have been raped less times than he was on the pitch. Despite the goal Keane just doesn't look a threat. Maybe it's just pre-season form but he seems slow both mentally and physically. Jenas (apart from one 1st half run) may as well have been in the stands for all he contributed. Time for all 3 to move on.

The Rest - Huddlestone and Townsend didn't show the same promise as they did in the last match. Naughton was poor but played out of position. Krancjar doesn't look match fit. Corluka & Taraabt did ok but nothing special.

No need to panic yet. Only Bale and Modric are certain 1st team starters and they both looked good, albeit against a weak side. On this showing (and the last against the Earthquakes) I think Levy should take whatever he can get for Hutton, Keane and Jenas though.

I Cant believe I stayed up to watch that :) very difficult to assess the players as there was so many non first team players out there, Henry aside the oppostion looked very ordinary, and yes I know it was a back four made up of rightbacks but that was the most worrying part about last night, how easy they had space in and around our box, Naughton dreadful, Hutton Clueless, three times he slung himself on the floor for the oppostion to side step him and make him look a mug, Nice to see Corluka back, but he is not a centre back, Walker look ok without tearing up trees, If Woodgates unlikely to come back, I can see why Harry's sniffing around other teams, as theres nothing coming through the Reserves, fringed players to be remotely anywhere near breaking into the first team, a few injuries away from disaster.

Midfield, the only outlet was Bale, Huddlestone was lazy and poor, and looked even less interested when switched to the back four second half, Jenas, these are the games he usually shines against, bit of room, lesser oppostion, he didnt, Modric looked as tidy as ever without creating anything, Krank, Rose, Taarabt, Townsend below par to poor, Keane played as the lone striker, only if you have supporting runners from midfield which there was none, I know it was hot and was a pre season, but I must say I was underwelmed by the quality on show out there, dissapointed in the two games Ive watched not one younster has taken the bull by the horns and said, " Harry ! pick me, pick me "
