I don't know if this is just me, but usually I always feel extremely pleased when we sign someone, especially an unknown like Vlad, or Dier etc.

But with this guy, I'm not feeling it. Maybe it's his stats on FIFA. Maybe it's because he's not Schneiderlin, and I feel for Poch.

Mostly, I think it's because this guy is gonna come in, and it means we're losing either Holtby, Sandro or both. If that's the case, I'm gonna need a while to lie down and cry for a bit...:cry:

Of course when this guy plays for us and does amazing this will subside, but in the meantime I almost feel like we're becoming a robotic club just filled with good players, like Chelsea or City (except none of our players are Terry-style ****s (y)). In a way, it's great that Levy finally believes in our manager now. Any demands Poch has, Levy listens it seems now. Not to mention Broomy and Baldini in the back room too.

Either way, I'm gonna be really sad when Holtby or Sandro go. Like van der Vaart sad. :arghh::cry:

Moneyball, it's the way the club is run these days.

Continuity, personality, familiarity, connection to the fans. None of these things matter anymore - it's all about getting in a new manager and turning over the squad as much as possible.

Six signings we've made now this summer. Six. And we were supposed to be all about some form of stability this summer after last year caused such mess and disruption.

Presumably we'll also now see at least two, probably more out the door. Forget about whether they should still have a role to play, whether they are coming back from injury or whether they've just never been given a run in the team to prove themselves - there's squad turnover to be done and money to be made - get 'em out! Bye Lewis, bye Sandro. Thanks for the Facebook posts and increasing our social media presence. Oh and the goals and tackles and performances and stuff as well we suppose.

Yay. Player turnover. Keeps the FM kids on the Facebook page who demand signings quiet though.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

In the words of @Bus-Conductor he looks like a busy **** and we don't have enough technically good ones (love sandro and on his day no one can break up play like him but technically he could be better).

Glad the club didn't get sucked into the nonsense created by Liverpool and man u over at southampton by getting involved is overpaying for MS and that characteristically at least a cost effective alternative was found.

Sorry to interrupt your rant but how many of the six signings, if that is how many we make, will be usual starters ? All last summers signings were expected to be starters. Slight difference this summer.

It wasn't a 'rant', it was me stating an opinion, and you didn't interrupt, I'd already finished.

What's your point got to do with anything? We've signed six players, that's what I said, we're turning over the squad again, that's what I said, and we're likely once again shipping out the few players we have with any personality or connection to the fans, which is what I said.

I never even mentioned the first eleven, probably because its got nothing to do with anything.

All of these signing s may end up being starters, but we have the quality that they don't need to hit the ground running. Last year we did not have that. All of our signings were expected to start and hit the ground running- this did not happen

My recollection is that Lamela had indeed already been signed, but I recall multiple announcements on one day after the Bale confirmation. Recall Vlad and Eriksen being announced on that day. Lamela announced on his own day.
There's a Lamela day? Cool. Must remember to get him a card.

My point is we have made different sorts of signings compared to the last Summer Window and they will not be expected in most cases to be regular starters so can be integrated slowly and carefully. Last summer we ended up with far too many fresh faces that were all starters.

Last year with the Bale money we effectively undertook a rebuild. This year it is more of a consolidation and strategic building the squad in areas of weakness and buying players that suit a clear playing philosophy.
The amount of players may be similar but the objective, strategy and impact are very different.
We have a very likeable and popular manager but like all successful managers he has to be ruthless and in selling Dawson, Sandro, Holtby and any others that don't fit his system Poch has quietly impressed me. He's not afraid to replace these players with largely unknown (in the EPL) players like Fazio and Stambouli if he believes they can do the job he requires.
I am really looking forward to this season.

I understand what you're saying, but I feel it is different to last year. If you look at the 6 (currently 5 but let's assume BS does indeed sign too), we are not looking to make wholesale changes to our first XI like last year:

Yedlin - one for the future and not joining up with us yet.
Vorm - back up to Lloris, something we needed given Brad's age.
Dier - though he has featured heavily so far and done really well, I expect he was bought primarily as a good young prospect rather than an immediate starter. If he proves to be ready sooner than we thought then great, if not he has time on his side.
Davies - another left back option to compete with Rose and still young. I think we can all do without seeing Naughton at left back again.
Fazio - we needed a centre back and I expect this is the signing most likely to hold down a first team place if he settles in.
BS - given the fee he seems a low risk option with plenty of potential upside. But if he doesn't work out, we have other players in central midfield so won't exactly be short and will surely make our money back worst case scenario.

I think we have sensibly improved our options and bought players with potential. Last year was a bit of a one off, I think this is more of what we need to do, at least until the stadium is built.

Six signings, but essentially I disagree. This window we've signed depth, not a whole new bunch of 1st team starters.

Interesting to see if this guy is seen as 1 st choice or capoues understudy. Never seen the guy play but from what I bread he sound too similar to capoue for both to start

Read, or better yet watch, a bit more and you'll see that he is very much a MS replacement, he certainly seems to have the ability to pop up in the box on occasion. I think we'll see Capoue, Stambouli, Bentaleb and probably Dembele competing for the two CM positions (in our 4-2-3-1 formation).

Although at the moment he plays a bit deeper than MS, I think he is a Morgan replacement, poch got him to play a bit more advanced when he joined as manager and I think he'll do the same with Ben. At southampton Morgan had wanyama next to him, Ben will have Capoue.

What manager takes over and buys no players though?

Support the manager and give him some players to fit his philosophy.

Standard.

Cool, then sack him and do it all again in about 18 months. Main thing is, try and ship out the players who've been here a while each time. Sounds good. Standard.
