Give him a few runouts in the u21's

Let him get some game time under his belt and eased into the English league.

Fitness wise, he should be fine to play for the u21's and then sit on the bench for us.

I'm not sure how that would benefit him to be honest. He just looks far too weak on the ball to be an option for us.

Wasn't a brilliant cameo but its his first minutes all season. Cut him some slack ffs. Young players need continuity.

He gets game time
The youngsters won't be as strong, but should still be physical, so he can learn to protect the ball better.

And CL debut to add to the pressure. Honestly not sure what anyone would expects from a 21 year old in such a situation other than a high work rate. He may end up being great or completely unsuitable but he will need game time before we can judge.

He has been bullied off the ball easily in every single performance he has had for us. Tonight was just a continuation of it. I just don't see it with him unfortunately.

You may well be right, but he has had no chance to build any consistency. He’s still 21 and has time to get stronger but really he’s had no chance to adapt to English football. There are plenty of young players in the PL who look thin but because they are adapted don’t get pushed off the ball as easily. Although they still do. Does that mean he will adapt with more game time, absolutely not and as you suggested he may well never suit the PL, but he certainly won’t unless he gets more minutes and up until now he really hasn’t at all ether under Conte or Nuno.

What I will say tho is that I do really wish we had got Kvaratskhelia instead. I remember we were looking at them both and decided going for Gil, but even then I thought he looked better suited to us then Gil. How incredible would it have been to have him and Kulu in our team. Our future would be set.

Anyway, we invested in Gil and we should give him the chance to adapt to the PL ether by giving him game time with us or loaning him to a PL team. Ether way he needs minutes on the pitch to get match sharpness and adjust to the system in a competitive situation before judging him imo.

Apart from his lack of pace, strength and trickery I think he’s got everything to be absolutely top draw
He’s got plenty of trickery. Are you blind? Guy put a shift in, because it was his first opportunity ffs. He definitely tried to make things happen way too much. But he wants a spot. I’m not comparing the 2 players on ability but Foden isn’t any bigger than him. He’s just been managed better. Our last 4 managers have been utter shite at giving any youngsters game time. Conte looks as bad. Spence tonight would of been in his element with all that time and space.

He’s just been managed better and is 10 times the player Gil will ever be at this level….

This is just becoming all too common already. I'm trying to accept Conte just has his preference to players in order of availability now. No way we can expect him to do so differently unless we are dead certain to lose comes 70th minute or to win comes the 85th. Call it favouritism or biasness, I hope it will all be for the positive in long run..

Gil got his chance and just fell over. He looks so weak. It is starting to look like a very strange transfer indeed. Even keeping a seldom fit Lamela would have been better than signing him. Conte proving himself right on the player too. He’s not physical enough. Tried hard though but something is missing.

Yep what is missing is more minutes. The boy needs time. Our players are facing burn out and we need to play him on the left which his best position. Conte needs to use his energy and skills to the benifit of the team.

I've not totally given up on him and I'd be delighted to be proved wrong and for him to become a valued member of the squad because he has some traits that I like and it's always great to see a young player improve and develop into a top player. I agree he needs more minutes but it is difficult to see him getting them with us right now outside of low level cup competitions. Probably needs a loan to a lower Premiership or top Championship side.

He was weaker than I was expecting and kept falling over. He hasn't played much football recently so he's got to be given leeway. I think Conte wanted him gone in the summer though and a replacement brought in. We really could do with that Kulusevski alternative we were all crying out for in August. Let's hope it doesn't come and bite us on the arse too much. Investment will have to be made in January. Goodness knows who else will get injured at the world cup.

He had a good game in the League Cup against Wolves last year and has completed 90 mins in three Conference League matches without making that much impact but last night looked well off the pace. Can that be attributed to lack of game time or was it just to physical for him plus the fact he wanted to go back out on loan to Spain, I really don't think his heart is here.
Apart from maybe the odd few minutes in the PL if we are in a comfortable position the only match he is likely to start is the League Cup away to Forest in November.

All this talk about him keep falling over....I recall another relative lightweight joining us a long time ago who done the very same except he stayed down until someone came on the pitch with the magic sponge and a kindly word, he was slagged off at the beginning of his time with us as well.
He was given a talking to and beefed himself up, he also went on to be a world class player both at Spurs and in Europe.
