He's got talent and could come good but we should have kept lamela. That was the bad bit of business

Needs a loan IMO. Somewhere where he'll play every match and have a chance to bulk up a bit for next season. Won't know if that's feasible until we get some signings done though.

Keep giving him cameos, sometimes he'll look good sometimes he'll be quite ineffective but we can't do what we did with Foyth and just not play him for long stretches.

We need to be patient with him and we may see some really good results in time.

What I like about him is that he has excellent technique, he can beat a man 1v1 but he is very industrious and will press hard.

If the team had more quality around then nobody would be worried about him.

To judge him and have the expectations as a instant star and contributor are very unfair. He has shown promise, exuberance and desire, its evident he currently lacks the nous or experience, but to say he is gash and right him off is unjust imo.
i think the frustration comes from the fact that we could really have done with a signing who can contribute now, not one who might be good in a couple of years' time. had we signed a ready-made attacking option alongside gil then fans would probably be more forgiving.

Gill is doing just fine. He's one for the future and I'm confident he'll come good for us. Tbh he is probably the one shining light we have at the moment.

Good signing, wrong time.

He wasn't deemed good enough for Sevilla squad.

He needs to develop, he needs game time.

We can't afford any passengers in the state we are in at the moment.

He will be a star, we should loan him out.

A bit torn as to what would be the best way forward for Gil, and the team. For sure he could do with regular football, but I don't think we have the luxury ATM to loan out players. We've seen how Covid can reduce the squad's numbers in a matter of days, so unless we are bringing someone in to take his place (we're not) then all we do is reduce our squad size and options.

He has only been in the country a few months, and I'd like to see him stay with the club until the end of the season at least before we ask him to go off somewhere else, possibly another country, to start again.

Anyway, it's most likely academic. I haven't seen even the slightest rumour that we're thinking of doing that.

Lamela was on high wages and always injured, part of a painful rebuild is also getting rid of decent-but-not-great players. We got a young Spanish u21 on lower wages, that was a good deal even if he flops. Maybe he is next David Silva or Olmo or maybe he flops, it was a good deal at the time. Tuchel will probably coach us in the next 5-6 years and he will probably do well with him or a similar style coach, not the greatest fit for Conte (or Nuno). I didn't expect for Moura to work well in Conte's system so maybe Gil takes a spot as nr. 10 eventually. He is young and probably won't reach starting 11 level before Conte leaves though, but he will probably be good for us at some point.

When Gil came on he was completely open twice during our attacks (first when Sess completely ignored him and the second - when Lucas didn't see him) and he was frustrated as fuck.
I wouldn't be against the idea of him playing while Son is injured. You can see that this kid can deliver something

Yeah, playing him on the left, with reggy, feels like worth a shot for a couple of games. Def agree he needs to bulk up (hopefully thigh muscle vs all over and lose speed/agility, ie bit like grealish)

Shame Markanday isn't signing a new deal as otherwise he would be deserving Gils minutes right now.

If we loan him it would have to be at someone like Newcastle in our league otherwise there's no point.

Out football at the moment is turgid, and I think technical players like Gil thrive on movement and quick ball. It shouldn't be surprising that he's struggling atm

I'm not sure it was a bad bit of business. Lamela could never stay fit and offered little most times he played.
Gil is only 20 so is an investment for the future. The swap deal also meant we could get Lamela off our books which is easier said than done given his injury record.

I do however have doubts about Gil, he has flashes of nice touches or vision or moments where he skips past a player but he's very ineffective currently and very lightweight.

Willing to give him time as 1st season in new league, country etc and very young and raw, lets see how he looks in 2 seasons time to see if it was a waste of money or not.

He could do with bulking up a bit and also seems like the kind of player who'd benefit from a regular run of games in a team to build rhythm and confidence.

Paratici's buys do scare me so far as they seem quite hit and miss and we need to be more hit than miss to do a good re-build.

He's 20.

Reminds me of David Silva when he was younger. My brother (I'm American btw) is a City fan unfortunately and I remember when they signed DS. He didn't pull up any trees in his first 6 months to a year and I remember my brother writing him off and there were reports he was homesick.

This is definitely a signing that needs time. He didn't speak any English I believe and he's 20 years old and hasn't even fully developed. I'm glad he's getting minutes here and there and I think he'll be a really good player for the future. Sure if Conte wants to win now and we need to loan him away for a season, then so be it - but I think it'd be a mistake to get rid of him ATM.

He has shown flashes of quality/promise but for what we paid (assuming Lamela was valued at about £12m) then I’d expect a little more than what we’ve got for our outlay. Not his fault at all and he may well turn out to be very good indeed. Seems like a bit of an expensive punt though.
