I thought he was impressive today considering it was a first start. Yep, he could have done more going forwards but he put in a great cross for Son, who should have scored I thought, and he will hopefully improve. There were momentsc where teamates weren't sure whether he would cross or play the ball back but he'll grow in confidence.

I think Ange will be pleased overall with his performance. He obviously needs to improve in his decision making in the final third but all in all i think Ange will see today as a plus for Bryan

Interesting game from Bryan tbh. I thought that he did ok, worked hard, good pass and move which is his game, passed backwards and safe a little too often and didn’t create loads and as we know is a bit lightweight but did ok and with more games and minutes he should improve, jury still out on him and his suitability to the PL longer term but wouldn’t write him off just yet under Ange.

Lets see.

I certainly think his overeagerness and desire to impress caught him out at times. And he certainly ran himself into the ground midway into the second half.

But on the whole I think he did well especially considering he’s obviously lacking match fitness and sharpness. Positive showing and I hope with more minutes he will feel more at ease. Encouraging.

He won't make it with us I don't think as he isn't ruthless or decisive enough in the final third, but until we get someone better he will keep playing well for us and he is a fit for the style of football.

I thought he visibly grew in the game. Started mostly with safe passes, then as he got more comfortable he started turning inside or playing first time forward or inside a man.

Good signs.
Looking forward to what he could do with a bit of confidence and match fitness/sharpness.

Opened this thread to say pretty much the same thing. He’s very, very tidy on the ball but everything he does in the final third is half-hearted. Could argue the same for Kulusevski but his issue is more decision making than anything. With that said, I think he looked pretty good playing in midfield and will make a good squad option in the years to come.

Upgrading the wings should definitely be a priority from January onwards. We need pacy, tricky wingers with a proven track record of posting goals and assists.

Hardly ever plays for us. Came in today, worked his bag off, put in an absolutely perfect cross that Son decided to bloody duck out of and generally was good I thought.

Not sure what people expect when his game time is so limited. He gets credit from me because he never hides. Always wants the ball and you can see he wants to make things happen. Couple of poor bits of play today which you can put down to being rusty, but overall pretty good I thought.

This is the problem.

Players come in with zero football other than in training under their belt and fans expect them to be at the top of their game.

Saying it's unrealistic doesn't even begin to do it justice.

I don't think it's unrealistic. He's only ever going to get bits and pieces and so to be a success, and useful to us, he needs to grasp those moments and stand out. Unfortunately, that is reality.

Plenty of other players manage to do that - in fact I imagine that's how most initially break into first teams. Gil is is not going to get a free pass for 10 games and nor should he.

Today it was another patchy, promising but also frustrating performance where we were left were left thinking the jury is still out.

He needs to make an impact in these situations and make better decisions.

He needs more chances , he did well considering so little game time. Still too difficult to judge. Need to see more between now and the summer. Encouraging signs today.

Thought overall he had a decentish game considering it was his first start in a while. Looked silky on the ball and seems to have the ability to move the ball quickly. Did well in tight areas I thought. Seems to have a good engine on him to. The not so good was looking to get his left peg to the ball when he was probably better off using his right. Also in dangerous areas. needs to show more precision than he did today but again was his first game for a while. Physical limitations are obviously there but interesting to see how he gets on now he is likely to get a run with Richy and Solomon out for a while.

First game in ages for for us. Needs a run before we can judge with any certainty or not.

Fantastic ball in for Sonny, which H would have buried

Good job it was a 2pm ko today though as he’s got to be up early for school in the morning!!!

Yep there’s certainly a balance between giving players a run of games, match fitness/rhythm etc and starting to judge them then vs certain players and Gil does fall into this category where there are legitimate concerns that it doesn’t matter how many games he plays and how sharp he gets that physically he just isn’t cut out for Premier League football.

I still think it’s slightly too early to write him off until Ange tbh, he’s only 22, Bale and other wingers really bulked out mid to late 20’s, Gil is still a young little boy.

The thing is will he ever get enough of a run of games for us to keep improving, I’m just not sure as once more of our CM’s are back and Richy, then he won’t get much of a look in.

I was really encouraged by Gil today. It's clear that there's a good player in there, and in a team that dominates the ball and has good movement I think he's a really good option. He held his width really well, some lovely touches, great intensity in his press.

He works really hard and he can do some good things but I just fear he’s too lightweight and doesn’t have that explosive burst to make up for his lack of physicality.

Without that burst he just can’t cleanly get away from players and beyond them and it restricts his effectiveness in wide areas.
