Thats a fair and valid point.

The only obstacle i see to that is that Gil is not going to be an U21 player and he's not a HG and will be taking a valuable squad place that another player could be using
Completely true. I must admit that I quite like Gil, i think he does have potential and I really wonder what he would be like had he spent the last two seasons on loan at a PL team rather then half of it on our bench and the other half back in Spain. That being said if you said to me now I could swap him for Nusa or Soule say id take take that trade. Do I think Gil will make it in the PL? I'm not sure. I do have this feeling he has "something" about him, wether or not that "something" will ever develop in the PL... I don't know. I can certainly appreciate those that think he wont ever make it here. There is a good chance he might not but he is only 22 so he still has plenty of room to grow, just like Johnson.

In regards to him taking a HG spot it is a very valid point you rase. Ultimately tho it comes down to Ange to decide if he warrants a place. Surely if he thinks he doesn't then he will tell Gil its time to move on.

I thought he was clearly signed by Paratici who had scouted him previously. You can see there's a player there but may never happen in this league. It happens and to be fair his hit rate has been excellent overall.
In which case it has to go down as a mark against Paratici transfer wise.

Was just never suited to the league it seemed and none of the managers he's worked under have felt any different.

Just time to cut and run now.

He thinks ange is the manager that will help him settle into this league unlike nuno and conte with there pragmatic football. Since Ange they all wanna be on this gravy train as they see success round the corner .
I wish Kane had also felt that way… 🥲

Regarding Gil he seems the ideal winger for Ange so wouldn’t write him off yet, especially if he’s willing to work his ass off to suceed.

Although Solomon and Son present better options when available and Werner played there in first game so might be a bit of a struggle.

Seems like very reasonable stance for him in this January window. Why move again in middle of a season into unsettled situation without clear path to that being a real long term solution.

we’re ok on squad places for rest of this season so not like he is taking up room we truly need for someone else and if Ange is fine with how he’s working and fitting in as minor rotational option for now then no need to move him this minute.

im pretty sure he’ll move on in the summer though.

Great, we're stuck with a squad of glory hunters. Seriously though, it's excellent that the players have this mindset that they see trophies on the horizon. Winning things is a mentality that we've lacked for ages. Ange is a guy who backs himself to make it happen.

With regards to Brian, I love his effort, his workrate, but I don't think the Premier League is the place for him. He's not suited to it.

Can understand why he'd want to stick around. Great club, stadium, training facilities and potentially one of the best manager's he's worked for. Maybe someone like Lo Celso is also thinking the same after his quotes of being happy here right now, especially as he was someone who I always thought would want to move on himself sooner than later.

I just can't really see much of a space for Gil. I think he'll have Solomon, Kulusevski, Son, Johnson and currently now Werner ahead of him in the pecking order. 4 of those aren't going anywhere else anytime soon, and that's even with full knowledge that we still need more quality in the wide areas also.

I also think the squad in certain areas is starting to be at a stage where, if anything, it's the current crop of good players that will become the 'squad players' once better quality comes in and players return. For instance the likes of Johnson, Richarlison, possibly Kulusevki eventually and Bissouma/Sarr/Bentancur will become players pushed to the bench as acquisitions get stronger. I don't think there'll be room for someone like Gil.

Maybe he just likes playing with Brennan Johnson? Bryan! Put that Welsh tart down!

For me it's on Gil to make it here. He simply has to bulk up, build his core strength and power. He won't make it until he has here. He hasn't yet and I suspect he can't naturally do it. But at 22 he has some time if he really focused on it. Lamela was able to strengthen, maybe his body type was easier to do it. If Gil is staying he needs to do it, if not accept he isn't suited here and play in Spain where less important.

I want him to succeed here as I love his skill and mentality, plus he is young and waiting for the right manager.
At the same time I trust that manager and we hold onto players that don’t cut it too long. So I hope we can offload if the situation presents. If not. I back him 100% every time he plays

the lad is only human, maybe he's sick of being farmed out on loan staying in hotels and away from family only to be back at spurs a few months later, rinse and repeat.
If I was him at this stage I wouldn't leave unless it was a permanent deal and for a manager who really wants me and I think I'll be a starter. Otherwise might as well try and stay at spurs where's he's getting game time and appears to have the managers trust as a backup option.
This is a really good post.

He is still only 22. I am not sure if he will make it but i think he has the ability and it may be that when hes 24/25 he is able to set the tempo of a game from a number 10 position similar to David Silva (who was even smaller). Will that be at Spurs? I dont know but i wouldnt mind him having a real go at trying to convert to that position and be the backup to Maddison. He has the technical ability to pull it off. We really need to be patient with some of our youngsters.

I’m sorry but he’s nothing like David Silva. He just simply doesn’t have the technical ability.

He has shown no signs of being able to dictate the tempo of a game, even in Spain.

To his credit, he always gives 100%. But he will never come close to being that type of player IMO.

What he is a hard working winger
I actually think he may be better though the middle because he doesn't really have the pace for the wing.
I like him though and there's a player in there, we (and he) just need to find it.

He has zero confidence in taking a full back on .

can’t see this league ever suiting his game. To quick and to physical for him

Jesus H Christ. If we had a £1 donation for every plank on here saying Gil is a winger or doesn't beat his man or get to the by-line and put in a cross we would have enough money to keep Spurs Community going for a hundred years. The reason he doesn't is because he is a left sided midfielder who gets played out of position.

It's worse than that!

In Spain he has been likened to David Silva and Anreas Iniesta.

Not much to live up to there.

I feel he absolutely could evolve into AM more effectively than he is a winger as we have sen (in a small sample) that he has an eye for a pass and because of his low centre of gravity he can go both ways at speed, he is limited on the right or left (especially) as if a defender gets tight he can be overpowered.

Although in an Ange team a winger need not be isolated and is more able to go both ways with the amount of options around them.

I would love for him to stay and become a bigger part of the team but i am interested to see how he develops either way (wherever that may be...)

Needs to find his position/role in the team. If he wasn’t left footed I’m not sure we would consider him a winger - he’s not quick enough or shown any ability to beat a player 1 on 1.

What he does have is never, work rate, and good technical ability. The Bernardo Silva/David Silva route might be the best for him (highly unlikely to that standard obvs) playing quick, short interplay passes with good movement off the ball. Not sure he quite has the vision but wouldn’t surprise me if he did

I think it's a misnomer to say he's not quick.
He has good acceleration over short distances.
He's certainly not a strong runner but I don't really remember seeing him sprint over any distance over say 5/10 metres.
