I am curious as to why we would keep this under the radar. I would have thought that the reason the striker is being kept ‘under the radar’ is because he would be wanted by various clubs or he’s a big name. Oh well
I dont understand the whole 'under the radar' thing! Im sure you can keep stuff from the press but i really doubt we can keep deals quiet from other clubs. Surely the players agent will make it known to clubs to try to flush out a better deal/team for his client (and himself, greedy bastard).

Also this guy doesn't have any caps for Brazil, so assuming he holds dual nationality to get round the issue of a work permit?

Yeah, go on. Call out the guy who is posting what he knows, for no agenda or personal gratification.

Sure that will end well......

He was saying he’s better than Janssen. I just want to know why he thinks that. What’s wrong with that? His opinion on the ability of a player is no different to anyone else’s on here.

The biggest concern I have is that he’s in his mid-20s and only ever had one decent season. You see strikers go through a purple patch all the time then revert to the mean. Two years ago Torino were quoting €100m for 25-year-old Belotti coming off the back of his breakout season, now we’ve got quotes from Torino supporters in his thread saying they hope he doesn’t sign a new contract. It’s a common story.

That doesn’t mean he *can’t* be a really good striker who just happened to blossom much later in life than is normal. Certainly looking at the likes of Drogba and Jimenez that does happen sometimes as well.

If we sign him I’ll be worried we’ve signed a one-season wonder, but ultimately the most important thing is that Jose rates him and he’s a warm body who can play in the Europa group stage and domestic cups so that we aren’t running Harry into the ground.

I see what you’re saying but who is the under 25 striker that has multiple seasons banging in 15+ league goals? Players like that are worth 75m+.

I have spent the last 10 minutes watching his highlights for the first time ever so I now consider myself an expert on his talents. Looks big, runs decently well, shows some good ball control and appears to hold up and play others in relatively well. Also he scores goals. Only detractor for me so far is he falls awkwardly sometimes. I’d recommend a Yoga/Pilates regimen to make him a little more nimble.

Assume Mendes will play a big part here, we would rather it kept under the radar and get the player on board without other clubs jumping in with better offers for the selling club making our negotiating with Benfica easier.

We then reward him with a better fee for not driving a bidding war through the media and other clubs.

So are we all in agreement this is the striker we are looking to get? Hercules mentioned a list of 5 earlier.... so for now it’s between Carlos Vinicius, Habib Diallo..... who else ?

I'd be happy with any striker, and think he'd be very good for us in Europe. But I don't see him being able to play alongside kane in the league, nor be an impact sub. So it's not ideal imo, but still very much would be a welcomed the addition.

Daka, Edouard, Milik were all on the list as well I believe.

Was not expecting some of these responses tbh.

Jose knows more about football than all of us, so if he wants him, then I do too.
I bet the ITKs weren't either, i'm sure they were thinking 'yeah im sure fans will be happy with this', backing the manager with players he wants and believes fits his system. Its all about opinions i suppose however seems a lot of people, as Trix said, make a lot of judgements from 3 minute long Youtube clips!

Cheers Rob... it’s does fit the description from Herc about it being exciting and interesting.
My preference in the list of 5 based on future potential, current goal scored and value for money:
1. Edouard
2. Milik
3. Daka
4. Carlos Vinicius
5. Habib Diallo

Well Edouard has been doing the business at Celtic for years now and wouldn’t cost a bomb, for one. And with younger strikers such as Daka, Malen, or Leao you wouldn’t expect them to have much of a track record given how early they are in their development.

With someone who’s 25 it’s different. This guy hung around in his academy without being given any chances until he was 22, it makes you wonder why. He then put together a mixed record at the senior level, again making you wonder.

I’m not saying he isn’t the next Drogba or Jimenez, again that is possible, but the one season wonder phenomenon is common for strikers and his background just makes you worry is all I’m saying. If we sign him I’ll certainly be behind him and hope we’ve found a gem, but it’s understandable why he’s not inspiring the same level of enthusiasm as Edouard or Daka.

I just watched the wrong Vinicius video for 5 minutes, before realising we were after a different Vinicius.... ?‍♂️
And I like him already;)

FFS Levy, sign a striker!

Not that one!

Of all the strikers we've been linked to, he seems judging by the clips he'd be the best at giving us the hold up play Kane provides should Kane not be available.

And seriously how much do you know about either?

Celtic players seem to be always on the market for the right price (and usually that is pretty reasonable too). Lennon's reaction to questions about him looked like a man about to lose his best player. Maybe he would be afraid of Kane and wouldn't join in which case fair enough.

I've just sold myself on the idea on us getting a potential superstar that can be the Kane succession plan. That's how you truly evolve a squad. I'd be stunned if this guy became a player we'd think could replace Kane. Edouard, Daka and even Leao could potentially have.

That said this guy fits the target man profile we probably need right now, and if Mendes cuts us a deal here (e.g. loan) which somehow allows us to get Bale then our attack looks very well rounded and I'll be happy. This guy with his height should offer a solid plan B. If Jose wants him then great, he knows football infinitely more than me, but I worry we'd be getting the best Mendes can offer over the best we can get.

I think its understandable there are concerns about him, have we bought him off a purple patch like Janssen? Will he settle in the UK quickly? No player is a sure fire hit, fingers crossed he becomes a Jimenez+. This just feels like a big gamble, guess it comes down to what the deal is...
