He definitely seems to be more of a battering ram type striker than Edouard, who is more silky.

I knew you were being sarcastic, I was agreeing with your sarcasm in the sense that it's weird people are saying not that one considering this guy seems the best for what we need the most which is cover for Kane. Obviously there's a hope they can play together too though if we do go this route.

I would be interested to know, with whoever we end up signing, where they were on the list. Is it a list that Jose has said ‘get me one of these’ or is it a list in priority order?

I think it's also worth noting that Benfica were dreadful this season, especially in the second half.

Celtic players seem to be always on the market for the right price (and usually that is pretty reasonable too). Lennon's reaction to questions about him looked like a man about to lose his best player. Maybe he would be afraid of Kane and wouldn't join in which case fair enough.

I've just sold myself on the idea on us getting a potential superstar that can be the Kane succession plan. That's how you truly evolve a squad. I'd be stunned if this guy became a player we'd think could replace Kane. Edouard, Daka and even Leao could potentially have.

That said this guy fits the target man profile we probably need right now, and if Mendes cuts us a deal here (e.g. loan) which somehow allows us to get Bale then our attack looks very well rounded and I'll be happy. This guy with his height should offer a solid plan B. If Jose wants him then great, he knows football infinitely more than me, but I worry we'd be getting the best Mendes can offer over the best we can get.

I think its understandable there are concerns about him, have we bought him off a purple patch like Janssen? Will he settle in the UK quickly? No player is a sure fire hit, fingers crossed he becomes a Jimenez+. This just feels like a big gamble, guess it comes down to what the deal is...

I'll admit, I was quite excited for the prospect of signing Edouard (it could still happen) as he looks very classy on the ball as well as being a great finisher - however, there is something appealing about having a big powerful striker like Vincius who could bully defenders.

Leaked is why I've comented on it. I don't know how close it is. I initially heard of it a couple of weeks back and I posted to site admin and other blue badgers. Had it confirmed by another source this morning amongst others hearing it too. The fact it's hit the net, and been confirmed to me by a secondary unrelated contact tells me it's out there now so no point in not mentioning it.

Some Wolves fans seem to think they have an interest in Vinicius but any potential move will only happen if Jimenez leaves.

I’m not sure Benfica would be supportive of this tbh. The reason we got that Gedson deal was because Gedson had a falling out with the manager at the time and wanted him gone. Benfica knew they’d never get the €50m+ release clause so loaned him initially instead.

Carlos Vinicius was their top scorer and by all accounts they need money this summer after making sizeable transfers into the club. Maybe if we paid a sizeable loan fee up front with a smaller future fee but im not convinced Levy would take a risk like that.

I mean if I can put my tinfoil hat on for a moment, Rob has alluded to hearing a lot of ITK which doesn't reach the main forum. The fact he quickly created a thread as soon as there was a slither and it was followed by one of our resident ITK's confirming in will give you an indication of why the thread was created without many media reports.

If this is the guy Jose is happy with, then we should just go for it. I know nothing about the guy aside from his name and that he plays for Benfica. I get why people might have been hyped about the likes of Daka, or Edouard, but we desperately need another striker in, if this guy fits the bill for Mourinho and we can do a good deal because of Mendes then just get it done ASAP.
