I think some people are underrating what a loss this could be for us. Yes his form has dropped this year (as has been the case with 90% of the squad) but he has still been, perhaps with the exception of Kane, probably our most important, influential and consistent player over the last 5 or 6 years. It's true that we remain stacked with quality around the squad which makes this different to times like losing Modric or Carrick. I also 'get' the optimism people have about us doing something similar to Liverpool with the Coutinho sale. The quad needs rejuvination and these are exciting times! However if Eriksen leaves and our recruitment is less than perfect then I think we will really start to miss what he brings to the team.

Will be sad to see him go if that is how it turns out. He has been the creative heartbeat of this team and it is probably no coincidence that he has looked less influential without Dembele, with Kane and Dele both far from their best and Lamela/Winks never fit. I would love to see him stay and be surrounded by a bit more quality and some genuine competition.

The problem is do you think real will really want him?
I have been thinking the same thing a lot of players have been linked to Real and a lot have been let down when they don't eventually sign. levy saying he will stay also means he is staying until the end of his contract IMO

Poch's teams reflect hungry, driven players, all playing for one another.

The fact that Eriksen caveats his comments with the old you know,..
if no one better comes in for me I'll sign a new deal... don't sit well with me.

Not having a go at him, but we're better than that now.

He wants to leave, and has served us well. Absolutely no problem.

But it's better he leaves now. I want to see a fresh motivated side raring to go for next season. Not the hub of our team treading water until a big move materialises.

The only thing I'll say to this is if he's already cashed out from Spurs mentally, why even leave the door open for a renewal with a year left and the wages market being insane for free agents?

With our Spurs glasses on it feels like he's your wife flirting with other blokes in front of you, but in reality it's just a professional weighing up their career options IMO. He's happy at his job, but wants to see if there's a huge career opportunity and 'new challenge' for him.

Regardless I still think our best bet is to move him on abroad and invest heavily to improve the squad overall. I think it'd be the best thing. Levy needs to deliver though, huge summer.

When Modric wanted to leave he significantly raised his game to secure the move to Madrid. Not sure if Eriksen has done this or could do this. May stop the move happening.

Good player and been very important for us. As others have said I don't resent him going and never really had the personal attachment to him like the VDV's of this world.

Hopefully this get's resolved very quickly now his comments are public.

There's a distinct difference between Eriksen saying he 'wants to leave' and wanting to go to a specific clube (i.e. Real Madrid I assume). If they don't come in for him and he's happy to sign a new deal I don't see what there is to get bent out of shape over. I don't think he's the sort to go chasing the money at any old club who'll throw cash at him and for that he's got my full respect. I've got a feeling he could well be here next season. Time will tell.

I've just had a crazy thought...

Real Madrid buy Pogba for £100m

Woodward gets a bit excited, like he did with Sanchez, and bids £100m for Eriksen

You reckon we'd turn that down?

Eriksen clearly states that his new club needs to be a step up, though. Man Utd just isn't that right now.

No doubt Madrid can afford him but surely splashing out on Jovic & Hazard & then presumably a large figure on Eriksen will come under FFP?

We might not, but I think Eriksen would.

He seems like quite a smart guy and we all know he has had some form of a 'plan' for a few years now. We've always been a stepping stone for him to get to Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc

Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots told Standard Sport: “Last season there were three clubs, two English and one foreign, interested in paying a huge amount to Spurs.

“For the club it was then a no-go area and for Christian not a must-have. I have the impression we are in a new situation now.”

I remember very well Poch talking in his pressers about players wanting to leave (Rose/Eriksen perhaps) last summer. As it happened no one left for different reasons - I personally think Christian missed out on his move last year. No wonder. He's probably a bit depressed about it all.

Incredible player. One of the greatest Spurs players I’ve seen in my lifetime (up with the likes of King, Modric, etc.).

If he wants to go, then ok, let him go, just make sure we really do end up better as a result though.

True; lack of CL is a major downside

But Woodward is a bit of a nutter in the transfer market; he's profligate with a scatter-gun approach, so Eriksen may end up with a 'pay-day'

Barcelona will get rid of Coutinho and Malcom plus Rakitic is aging, maybe them. Real aways look for shiny new toys.

Real have already just spent 140 million If they are truly gonna spend big on pogba and hazard too I don't see them adding eriksen

Personally I think his Spanish dream may be fading. He hasn't helped himself with his lackluster end of season and cl final display

He's clearly had a move on his mind this season.

Those that though his form was unrelated were being foolish.

All the very best Eriksen.
