Player watch: Christian Eriksen

He said he would like to try something else (Another country, another culture - on an even higher level), but he also implied if it doesn't happen, Tottenham is a good place to be.
According to a danish expert in spanish football, Zidane is not interested in Eriksen.. it's the chairman (?). So I really don't see Real Madrid as a good option for Eriksen, which leaves Barca, Juventus, maybe Bayern. And none of those have shown any interest. If Spurs comes out of this transfer window with some good buys and keeps Poch, then I wouldn't be surprised, if he stays.

If he wants to go then fine, go. I'm not fussed either way. But criticising him for what he hasn't said and basing it on reading between the lines is a bit off IMO. He wants to try something new if it's on offer, if it's not then he's happy to stay. He's been no worse than a number of players this season and better than some. Far too many players haven't had the best of seasons and I think he's the easy target because people make stuff up based on a few quotes or the easy/fashionable option of 'his heads elsewhere' which is an insult to him and to Pochettino. Some of you think you can spot it and he can't? Do me a favour.

Still, onions are like arseholes, we've all got one :D

I hope he hasn't dug a hole for himself, Poch values the team and commitment above anything else so if nobody comes in for Eriksen he might look a bit silly.

At his best he's superb but his best has become quite rare.

I dunno maybe it’s better for both us and him if he leaves. I like him as a player but I can’t remember one semi final or final he’s played in where he’s taken the game by the scruff of the neck and given it a good shake and he seems to hide in the big games anyway.

I think we need someone who is a bit more ambitious and energised. He seems to be burnt out a little. Maybe it’s us as a club. We don’t float his boat anymore or he doesn’t like the chicken badge. Perhaps a change will do us both good.

Got two assists against Chelsea in the FA cup semi, including one of the best passes for an assist that I've ever seen

This. So many posters do this with so many of our players. I don't get it at all.

PSG allegedly intersested and looking to include Draxler makes things more interesting. Betis probably feeling more pressure to get the deal for LoCelso done and RM feeling a bit more heat with Bale and what they'd cough up for CE. I can't really see why Eriksen would fancy PSG since he's not what you'd call a money grabber but it adds a nice bit of spice to the pot. Sits back and reaches for popcorn.

Yes I know and we lost that one as well. I am surprised Real are in for him to be honest. Hopefully we get a decent price and he gets a great contract. Win win.

Inter’s being mentioned now as a possible destination. With Conte hired and supposedly lots of financial muscle, he might be interested.

Won us the league cup semi final a few years back as well. Also got the assist for dele’s goal in the FA Cup semi final in 17-18 IIRC.

My problem with Eriksen is this. If the quotes that he believes that he has to go somewhere else to win something is correct, then that is a bit rich in my opinion. There is no bigger club trophy than the Champions League where we as a club played in its final on Saturday. Our Defense and defensive midfield all played very well, and was only let down by our front four which included Eriksen. If Eriksen had played to his capabilities and taken the game by the scruff of the neck, like he had done in past big games in previous seasons, and we still lost then I could say at least he tried so he has a point. My point is he had his chance to win a trophy with us and didnt show up. So to come out and make a statement borders on delusion and arrogance in my book. Does he honestly think he can play like that at Real or Barca and get away with it? For those of you who continually defend him and think he has had a good season, then continue to stick your collective heads in the sand. I am not questioning his talent or ability which we know is among the best, I am questioning his effort for us this season wearing a Spurs shirt.
I don’t think a to d is stating that he had a good season, I think all some of us are trying to do us pour a bit of water over the gross exaggeration about how bad it was. You don’t co tribute as much as he did to a side who gets to the biggest final in club football, another semi final, and finishes top 4, by having a shit season. He had shit games, he also had a few great games, and a lot in between where he was adequate but not much more.

Problem is, Eriksen, Dele, Kane, Lloris, they’re all getting over pilloried. Yes, all could have done better, but the way some go on about them you’d think we’d finished 12th, scored about 45 goals and ended up with a negative GD.

My read on it is, he's 27 and after 5 years with us, he either commits the peak years of his career with us or moves to a club more experienced in... 'winning things'. As much as we love our club, the biggest differential between us and the other top tier clubs is we do not win trophies, not in the recent past.

I believe we have the nucleus of something special, but if you are not English (so the romantic home ties aren't there) and a club like Real, Barca, Juve, PSG, Bayern etc want to sign you, that is going to be compelling. It almost guarantees you a couple of league and domestic cup wins and probably more chance of winning a European trophy... Bale is a key example he's only gone and won 4 CLs since leaving us.

Personally think CE comes across a decent and likeable blokes and his quotes of 'I'd like to try something new but if the right move doesn't come I'll happily stay at spurs' seems pretty fair enough to me. They're humans and only have one career and remember, they're not biased Spurs fans like us!

Don't look now but both of you are making my argument for me! As I said these performances that you have quoted have been non existent this season in big games.

We all know how these things work - It's blatently his missus who wants to go and live in Madrid. He doesn't actually want to leave Spurs (the greatest club in the world), hence the depressed performances. His missus is calling the shots .

I meant bossing games not just assists. You know like the way Xavi, Alonso, Pirlo, Modric and Keane have done in the past.

I see interest from Manure and Chelsea in a player like Christian. Tried and tested in the PL. But I am sure Levy would prefer to sell abroad even at a loss. I dont think he will go to Real but who knows.

Absolutely, but winning the French League with PSG doesn't rate as much of an achievement. As I said before, some very average players have just won the 'treble treble' at Celtic but nobody gives a toss. I'd be surprised and disappointed in equal measure if he went to PSG.

Agreed, the only “new challenge” he’d be getting going to PSG would be opening a new savings account. It’s definitely not a step up from Spurs.
