Lamela ran our play and was constantly the only player on the pitch trying and who gave a shit. Its not a coincidence that went ever he was subbed off, our play turned to complete shit. Eriksen had end product last year. He was still very inconsistent and did not have anywhere close to even resembling the effect Lamela did on our play. Saying Eriksen was just as important is disingenuous.

I liked bus conductors stats about Eriksen, but I agree, the drive and overt determination means to me Lamela, at it, with say 70% of Eriksens attacking stats is still more important to the team in my mind.

I love Lamela, as you know, but Eriksen was the one who run/dictated our play. He made about 20 more passes per game than Lamela. Eriksen had a fantastic season, and saying he 'did not have anywhere close to even resembling the effect Lamela did on our play' is just completely untrue.

They're both great players, and both are equally important in different ways.

Lamela did not run our play what absolute b******. If any player did that it was Dembele.

The only player that gave a shit and was trying? you have no idea what you are talking about and continue to embarrass yourself with statements like that.

Its a wonder how we finished third with only one player that tried.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen rejected Europe's elite because Spurs is 'great fit', says agent

Christian Eriksen's agent revealed his player had turned his back on interest from top European clubs to sign a new deal atTottenham because he believes the club is perfect for him.

Eriksen has finally signed a four-year contract, worth about £75,000 a week, after more than a year of negotiations. Although there had been interest from Juventus, Paris St Germain and Atletico Madrid, as well as Manchester United last summer, Eriksen has opted to commit himself to Spurs.

His representative Martin Schoots said: “Christian is just very happy at Spurs, as a player and as a person. He and his girlfriend moved house a month ago, which you don’t do in the middle of the transfer window if you have doubts about where your happiness is.

“He wanted to move to Tottenham three years ago, even when other clubs were interested in that period, including a big German club who could guarantee Champions League football. But he was convinced about Spurs, and he still is.

“He is looking forward to playing in the Champions League again and to playing in the new stadium in two years’ time. It’s just a great fit.

“There have been a couple of clubs showing interest over the last 18 months, yes. Sometimes I read fans on the internet saying they are surprised they don’t hear anything about interest from other clubs in Christian. But that is just not our style.

“It is useless to talk publicly about these matters, the day after a club has called. It does not contribute to a good atmosphere, in which the player feels happy.”

Eriksen has made a slow start to the season but has been a key man for Tottenham since he joined from Ajax in 2013, contributing a regular flow of goals and assists.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted on Thursday that the speculation surrounding his future might have affected Eriksen’s performances, but that he expects the Dane to recapture top form now, starting at Stoke on Saturday.

In an interview with Danish newspaper BT, Schoots added: “Now that everything is closed, I can tell you that the situation hasn’t really changed since Christian was 14, when the first big clubs started to call.

“They continued to do so over the most recent period. There has been concrete interest from four Champions League clubs, from France, Spain, Italy and England. Two of them played in the Champions League final not too long ago.

“We took it as a great compliment. One of the managers, Laurent Blanc (who was then at Paris St Germain), spoke openly about his admiration for Christian some time ago – and he is a World Cup winner.

“Christian was flattered by the interest but never wanted to do anything about it, so the clubs know this. As I said, he is just very happy at Tottenham and it was always in his mind to stay longer.”

Quite simply, he was our most important player last year. Most assists (2nd in EPL), most key passes (2nd or 3rd in PL), 3rd most passes, nobody has scored more free kicks in the PL since he's been playing for us.

Our IQ and composure as a team drops considerably when he's absent, which is probably why he has been worked to death over the last two seasons.
I would argue Kane, Lloris and Dembele and Toby had a far greater influence on our team last season than Christian.. Also regarding free kicks his percent conversion last season was very poor something like 2 in 24 I think and an 8 % conversion in shots:goal ratio (Kane& Ali where in the 20's).Most of those wonderful stats where the season previous

Now I think most of us are well aware of what he can bring and is capable of and how he has on a few occasions won the day for us, but in truth he's not been at his best for the latter part of last season and the start of this season he's been alarmingly poor.

I for one hope he'll come right quickly, but if not the conundrum that Poch has is how long do you persist?

He has had and continues to have a dip in form but he is a class player and a real benefit to the squad. Hopefully now the contract is sorted he will get back to his best form and will be a huge asset to us again.

If you're referring to the last 4 games as the 'latter part of last season', then everyone was shit.

Thats nice to hear. Also Martin Schoots has to be a made up name for a football agent

I think we achieved what we did last season mostly because of a collective ethos instilled by Pochettino, and within that collective ethos there were many individual components that flourished and deserve credit but I think no individual component made a more complete contribution, or fulfilled such a wide remit as Eriksen.

He was part of the best defensive front four in the PL (him and Lamela were the only ones who continued to press properly when others, like Kane and Alli dropped off), he was our most productive player in terms of creating chances, goals and key passes, and he also got through as much ball as our 2 CM's, and he did this consistently, throughout the season. In other words, he did the job of a CM and an AM almost every game.

Just not true mate. Its posts like this where you ludicrously exaggerate to make a point that make it hard for me to take what you say seriously.

I would agree with you regarding Kane and Toby. Theres just no replacement for 20+ league goals and we have no CB even close to Toby. Lloris i think is similar to Eriksen. Dembele not even close, especially given our stock in CM.

If we don't play Eriksen our passing play goes out of the window. He sees more passes than our CMs; he is the reason why we can play 2 DMs.

For a lot of those wanting Eriksen gone or don't see how important he is to us, make sure you tune in to match of the day (y)

We always have a vitally important player that people moan about relentlessly. Carrick was always complained about for not getting enough assists or goals and in some quarters the £18m we got for him was seen as good business at the time. Modric had the same treatment.

Basically a lot of people can't see beyond stats and fail to see what impact on our general play some players have. Strange thing is that Eriksen does get the goals and assists and people still moan!

We rely on Eriksen as much as we relied on the 2 mentioned above and we would struggle massively without him.

So weird how contract negotiations affect players. Such sensitive souls they must be. Let's hope we get a decent return this season from him, before he starts looking elsewhere again.
