Was fantastic today, exactly the type of performance I know he is capable of and want to see more frequently and explains my opinion on Eriksen.

Let's face it though if he was delivering that sort of performance more frequently he probably wouldn't be playing for us.

I havent seen any moan about him or saying he should go on here, I just seen people say that he isn't the player thought he would be.

When we signed him, I expected him to be going barcelona in 3 or 4 seasons but tbh I agree with people saying he isn't at that level.

I think the level we are at now is the level he is going to be at, I cant see him moving to a bigger club. Other than PSG and thats debatable and not one of europes elite

I've not seen anyone say he's Barcelona level, but I have seen people say they'd happily get rid of him in the summer, and people say he was shit for the second half of last season and people say he should have been dropped for yesterday's game (not that I think any player is above dropping, but they were completely ignoring that others had contributed even less so far this season, such as Kane or Alli or Dier).

Key word for this guy is consistency that is all. Most of us know how talented he is, as he gets older and more senior in the squad our expectations grow. People shouldn't mistake high expectations for wanting a player to leave. I guess my main frsutration is when we are playing poorly i expect him to step up, but i don't ever think that will be his role, he seems to thrive in a team playing well and that's where he can leave you shouting at the screen because you know he has so much ability.

Really pleased for the whole attacking part of our squad today, they have not clicked at all this year and it was great to see some of the football we have come to expect and that they actually enjoyed themselves out there.

Good to see him gaining some confidence again in that game. Maybe he's a guy who relies on confidence to play well. You could literally see the change in him during the game. Went from a player who lost the ball in contact virtually every time, to a player who could beat a player and make a chance. Let's hope we see the good side of his game now.

Why though? He was criticised because he was playing poorly and now he has returned to a good level and long may it continue

He seems to held to a higher standard than most though. A couple of assists has merely bought him a couple of weeks free of harsh criticism.

He is and for me that's because he has the most potential and you don't see it often enough. He's a fantastic player but at times he's guilty of letting the game pass him by when he should be taking control, like he did yesterday.

He didn't put a shift in when in "negotiations", now he has his money and played a great game. Lets hope it lasts.

Do people honestly believe he was purposely trying less until he got his new contract?

Have to say if that really was the case it has to be the shittest negotiating tactic ever in history.

Just a coincidence then? Fair enough.

His first touch yesterday was unreal. A few times he took the ball out of the sky as effortlessly as I've ever seen.

I agree with this, but there is the potential for distraction if his future is under a cloud.

It's perfectly feasible that the media speculation and uncertainty over his contract was somewhat mentally draining and he feels refreshed now that it has been resolved.

I don't think he lacks confidence per say, I think he sort of gets annoyed at himself when things aren't working and he loses his rhythm - and he's very much a player who is all about rhythm and touch.

I think that's a fair assessment. I never had any particular expectations about him when he arrived (other than I thought he would turn out to be a good signing - and he has), so in no way have I been disappointed with his performances since then.

I think he has found his level with Spurs - which is far from a criticism considering we are one of the best clubs in the country. I hope he can stay with us for the long-term and develop new facets to his game as he matures. TBH it's nice to have a good player that isn't too hyped, so that we don't have to put up with constant speculation about their future, a la Berbatov/Bale.

So what is the official line. Was Eriksen dropped or rested vs Sunderland? Thanks.

I think rested. However, it was kind of weird to rest him against a team where you knew we would need creativity. But, you can't argue against all the goal mouth action, despite some of it being a bit "spray and pray." I hope Poch doesn't start him against Gillingham and let him maybe get like a 20 minute cameo in preparation for Boro.
