It's been covered in so many post-Villa match comments in here, but I also wanted to mention just how crucial he was to the win on Saturday.

The 65 minutes before his entrance were forgettable at best, particularly with that haplessly narrow diamond shape with players running in each others way. Eriksen comes on, we switch to a 4-2-3-1, and suddenly everything clicks. Ndombele and Sissoko boss the middle, Lamela and Lucas go wide, and Kane has the areas available that he likes to move into... And central to all of them with this man seamlessly making it tick.

Christian, sign da ting....

It all really fell into place for Eriksen. The formation change gave him the perfect platform against a tiring team. Take nothing away from him, he did everything very well though. It's a shame that Winks will probably suffer the reverse effect though since he was at the base of the diamond and was subbed off for Eriksen.

Especially since Winks was easily one of our best players up to that point.

Just a little reminder:

Since his Premier League debut for Manchester City in September 2015, only Tottenham's Christian Eriksen (49) has more assists in the competition than De Bruyne (46).

Who would be a replacement then?

If we cant muster up creativity with Ndombele Lo Celso Dele Winks Skipp etc we are in big trouble
I don't think we are. Let's see first how Lo Cekso works with Ndombele and the forwards first

the first two are creators but can't play all the games- we're in 4 competitions and everyone wants a trophy, including Poch?

The other three are not, one in my book is more of a finisher, the other two are not creative at all.

Unless we get a stupid offer like £100 mil we should keep till Jan at least, if an offer comes in in Jan window then yes we can sell if the likes of Dybala or Fernandes come as replacements.
Not saying we should sell now but we wouldn't get any more than £20m in January as he'd be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.

Cant see anyway he signs a new deal. There is just no logic at all to him doing so if you look at the evidence of how he has run his contract down. Thinking otherwise is only going to lead to disappointment. Having said that, with the window closed, I’d rather we just kept him and he played out his final year, as he will be invaluable to us having the best season possible. Just accept he’ll be gone in a year, and reap the benefit of his skills for one more season.

OR if a European club is willing to pay something to get him immediately in January, and we can get a replacement in, then consider doing it then.

If Eriksen is going and the odds are he is,then better we get our players to gel as quick as possible. We haven't seen Lo Celso yet so we dont know how he will fit in exactly and what attributes he will bring in creatively etc. Better we do as we did this week play Eriksen from the 60th minute etc

Real Madrid and Barca trying to buy Neymar this window. If R. Madrid get him I doubt they'll go for Eriksen as well. Makes sense from a Madrid perspective to wait until next summer and get him on a free.

The depressing aspect of this saga is I think he's absolutely perfect for the new players we have.

Having him shifting the ball about, with Kane as a lone striker but complemented with (now) good runners all over the midfield and attack (at the base: Sissoko/Winks, Ndombele, in AM: GLC, Son, Moura) would be amazing.

I can't see that he'll stay. We can't let him go for nothing (keeping him till Jan would be the same - he'd just sign a pre-contract agreement with someone) and I very much doubt he'll sign a new contract.

So enjoy him for the next few weeks, I think in all likelihood they'll be his last, and we'll need to adapt very, very quickly. No one else in the squad (and frankly - very few others in the world) see the game like he does.

The gutting thing is that we now (at last) have a squad that could get the best out of him.

CE holds all the cards here, people are saying sell him now which I’m sure Levy will want if he does t want to stay but it won’t happen if the player doesn’t want the move himself. I can’t see many teams coming in for him now and the ones who might are likely not the teams he is holding out for. My guess is he will stay, sign a new contract with assurances/reasonable clauses he can leave next summer.

He will probably see his contract out. And if none of the select few clubs he has his eyes on is willing to pay more than 30m or so, we should let him. Because having him in the squad for one final year is worth more to us than a transfer fee that has dwindled down to that small a size.

I think that would be about as good as we could realistically hope for, though there's little incentive for him to do that really

In KDBs defence he was out for most of last season

Nice but Eriksen has also played 3000 more minutes. It works out as an assist every 228 mins for Eriksen, every 194 minutes for De Bruyne. Still great stats of course.

Interesting snippet from this piece in The Independent
Probably speculation but it sounds like a fair reflection of how things might play out:

"Should the offer of a new contract go unsigned, Spurs would rather he moves to Atletico this window, so that they can recoup at least some of the £145m they have outlaid on new signings this summer. Eriksen however prefers a move to Real and is willing to wait a year before leaving Tottenham on a free transfer."

Yup. In all likelihood, he either goes to Real for £40m (or so) now, or he waits for a year and goes for free

Anything else relies on him having a change of heart and deciding he wants to do us a favour. I just can't see it, which is such a shame

Yep, this seems the most sensible approach. I still hold out a glimmer of hope that he signs a new contract purely down to the fact that if i were him, i'd feel pretty unwanted if my 'dream' club/s were unwilling to pay even a half decent transfer fee for me, given that those same clubs have paid astronomical fees for other players (and recently were happy to pay a large fee for a Chelsea player in the same stage of contract)
