I think there are quite a few on here that don't really understand Conte's MO if I'm honest. They are clammering for the best available player in each position(often without really watching them), but that's not what Conte wants. He asks for players with the skillset best to fit his system and game plan. He's happy to mould and tweak them to fit his style of play as long as they have the required core abilities.

The system and the players ability to execute his game plan are what matters to AC.

No one comes in this window that Conte doesn't want and that is what is most important.

then conte would fucking love me. I’m the missionary king

Have to say I was really looking forward to this signing, gutted there is no option, thought we were past that type of deal as a club now.

Didn't Romano just say no clause at this point and then everyone else just rolled with it? I imagine that will get sorted.

Yup, and even he said ”no buy option as of now” It’ll get sorted out I reckon unless Barca want some ridiculous money for him, even though I’m pretty sure they’re glad that they finally can ship him out ??‍♂️

I really don't understand how this is the best solution for LCB, IMO seems like a bad deal (especially if there's no buy option). Also, why are people so confident that Bastoni/Gvardiol would come to us next year?
I don't think anyone is confident of that. The idea is that if there isn't a long-term target available to spend on this year that we are better off waiting until one is available. It may not be either of those two when that happens, because one thing that I noticed quite a lot this window is that our targets change over time anyway. A few years ago the idea of signing Lenglet would have been a wow signing. Last year people thought Skriniar or Kounde were that and they have barely resurfaced for us this year. Premise here seems to be not to waste money on someone we are not sure of and kick the can down the road as long as we have adequate cover. Also, just because we may not have a buy clause doesn't mean we still can't try and buy. The issue there than just becomes how much. I think strategically it makes sense, with the caveat that Conte is comfortable with the strategy.

I think this is a pretty low risk signing. We obviously wanted a big expensive LCB but they weren’t available so we’ll roll with Davies (who was outstanding last year) and Lenglet.

Lenglet was great at Sevilla and then lost his way in a disastrous Barca side, nothing to say he won’t recapture his past form back in a back 3 and with a proper coach.

Worst case scenario, he’s coming in as 5th choice CB and we’re basically asking him to be better than Rodon and Tanganga which based on their respective contributions last year (for various reasons) shouldn’t be that difficult.

My personal take is that this has been on ice for the last 4 or 5 days as Paratici has been pursuing another target and Lenglet is his back up.

Think he'll do better centrally in Conte's system. Him being isolated wide vs the likes of Salah (ideally Perišić and Bissouma are there to help but there will be times when they aren't) will be nightmare inducing for both him and us. But confidence is best steroid, Kuluševski at Juventus would never score that beauty after missing open goal.

Tbf though (and I have no particular horse in this race as didn’t know much about him) why wouldn’t you? So if he did

Obviously have to shout “LENGLET!” at end of each cycle lol

Point in case being, if many deemed him shite in the first place, why the need for an option, coz he's supposedly so crap, we wouldn't want him after a season coz he's terrible, blah, blah, blah.

Some now clamouring for an option suggests that they might just've been spewing rubbish when saying he was crap and would be a poor signing.

Why would you want an option on a shite player...in case he wasn't.

So why write him off before even kicking a ball in a Spurs shirt then.

Cos too many people play football manager. Makes me laugh

This should be a shrewd signing for me

Agree with the shrewd signing.

Maybe not the absolute best CB, but can certainly pick a pass, which one would think, could set up Conte's counter attacking style of football a treat.

How come everytime someone doesn't agree with a club target (and there's been plenty times where the scepticism turned out to be justified) people play the "idiot who play football manager/fifa" card?

Fans can have different opinions without being clueless of the game.
