It’s so important to have someone like him in a team with genuine ambitions to disrupt the top sides. There’s a reason the successful sides of the past were lead by the likes of Keane, Vieria and Terry, they were horrible ****s but you need one or two of them who will set the tone for everyone else and fight for the shirt.
Hmhmhm... Rüdiger ?‍♂️

I actually didn't think it was as big a deal to be honest. It was just a scuffle in the box, Romero just grabs at him to shrug him off. It was just his hair is out there so that's what was grabbed a bit like a shirt pull. He should have been booked by the ref and play resumed but its not a red. You can't give a foul either as the ball is not in play, it's just one of the typical scenarios from a corner where players are pulling one another. When you watch it in real time Cucupops is tussling with him and Romero pulls him off. They just make it look worse when it's slowed down but you can only judge these things in real time.

To be clear, what some of us think is for him to know when to foul and when his aggression could turn out counter productive to the team's goals.

The reason the hair pulls are stupid is because
  • It occurred at a critical juncture of the game
  • Everyone saw it and it will further his reputation which means refs will have him on a shorter chain while watching him even closer.
Eliminating that part of his repertoire is not the same as attempting to coach out the aggression. Love the guy but whether it is a loss due to a red card or a loss due to gifting a goal to the opposition with a stupid backpass or whatever, points are points are points. If he is capable of aggression without the non tactical fouls, wouldn't that be the best of both worlds?

Such a tough one to criticise, as while pulling his hair was dopey as fuck in isolation...it rattled them and we ended up having 3-4 lining up to put that header away at the end completely unchallenged. If he doesn't do it in that moment, we don't score that goal. Maybe we score differently when the ball comes in anyway...we'll simply never know. But that's the way that it panned out in this timeline.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero will not face retrospective action for pulling the hair of Chelsea's Marc Cucurella on Super Sunday - as pulling a player's hair is not considered an offence in football's rules.

In a controversial final few minutes of the Premier League game on Sunday evening, Romero was seen tugging on Cucurella's hair as he looked to attack a corner as Spurs looked for a late equaliser.

And because VAR took a look at the decision, Romero will not face any further punishment for violent conduct. Retrospective action can only be given when both the match and video officials fail to spot an incident on the pitch in real time and do not mention it in their post-match report.

Had referee Taylor spotted the incident in real time, then the correct course of action would have been a free-kick to Chelsea, leaving Spurs unable to score from that specific attack.

Unlike rugby, football laws do not specifically mention hair-pulling. The officials must decide whether the extent of the hair pulling is forceful enough to be considered violent conduct, if it is not then it would probably be considered unsporting behaviour and result in a yellow card.

How was it a critical juncture? We were a goal down with a corner on 95 mins, pretty much one of the last chances of the game. It wasn't like we were defending a corner 1 goal up or level.
Also var saw it and didn't deem it an offence so not sure what the issue is.

He reminds me of Fernandinho, Casemiro, and Rudiger. Every time I watch one of them, I think they could've had 2-3 yellow cards and maybe a red, but more often than not they make it through the game without punishment or with a single yellow. I'm sure he'll face some time suspended at some point, but he more often than not seems to be able to stay just on this side of punishment and the good of his aggression outweighs the downside of the odd suspension.

Has anyone noticed that he loves punching his own team mates in the back when they score? ? Last week he was battering Dier's kidneys, yesterday he was smacking Richarlison in the back of the head. All fun and games I'm sure but he doesn't hold back lol

My only worry is he may take it too far and get sent off, and that’s no help to the team.
He needs to be clever not to go over the top with his behaviour

Surely Cucurella needs to take some of the flak for having hair like a poodle in the first place

if he had a Graeme Souness approved short back and sides this would never have happened

Absolutely love this guy! His passion, energy, aggression is off the charts. He's also very clever and is definitely the mould of Sergio Ramos, Chiellini, Pepe.. Absolute masters of dark arts and filth lol. People can take the moral high ground about hair pulling what not. I'm sorry but I love that kind of filth in a player.

He is definitely my favorite player right now, more so because he's my ideal type of player, and he reminds me of myself whenever I play football. Absolute shithouse, taking people out slyly, and just being a calculated dirty player and getting on everyone's nerves, love it because its all mind games and it works a treat as everyone hates you for it and you get in their heads.. The best part is, I don't care what they think of me either, Romero is definitely that type of guy.
