Neither was Bale. It is in the clubs interest to not let that sort of news out until signings are done, so even if top sources say that it could just be a tactical move.

Perhaps it was just that the forum I used at the time was a bit more cynical/pessimistic, but I thought it was pretty well clear from soon after that season ended that Bale was going - there was simply no other realistic way for us to fund the spending that window, back when £100m was an eye-watering amount of money and not what you'd need if you wanted change after buying a defender from Leicester City.

Here it's less clear that Kane's definitely leaving - there's been rumblings for a while about the stadium naming rights and so on, although there's certainly plenty of reason to think that it's going to be Kane money at the end of it all.
